What a wonderful trip back in time. Wife and I watched it from end to end. We were both raised in Forty Fort, PA, just west of Wilkes-Barre, but we've lived in Florida the past 30-some years. This is the best way to go back to our roots--good visuals without having to actually be there. On one hand the mountains are marvelous, on the other hand the towns tend to be depressing. Thanks, Jim.

The towns actually look better than some older small towns my wife and I have seen in Georgia, NC, and western half of Virginia. It just occurred to me that those the videographer drove through look very similar to DumontbNJ, where I grew up, and Somerville NJ, which is a lively town.

Just curious here. What is it with videoing trains that you have to have the camera as close as possible to the tracks. The trains go by and you barely have enough time to watch and see what is there. It would be nice to have the camera set back a bit so you can actually watch what is in the consist or freight. That first train that went by had an interesting car in it, but the camera was so close and the angle so sharp. I could not make out what it was.

We took a train trip from Jim Thorpe to tamaqua. After we left Jim Thorpe, we had to sit on a siding, while a freight train came along side and stopped. They had to wait while the steam train leave Jim Thorpe and head north. As the steam train was passing, all 3 engines started a “horn symphony”! It sounded great and I’ll never hear one again. I just wish I could have recorded it!

AC, you knocked this Vid out of the park! I have traveled PA with sprint car and kart racing teams through this area. To actually be able to share a table with coal miners and Rail workers who worked at plants, mines, small stores gives you a out look as bleak as your video showed. The grey sky, chilly day, abandoned machinery and the coal breaker shots are a testimony to what was once a Essential part of industry in America. Th

I visited the same area in the summer of 2014 with a rail fan buddy. It's amazing seeing the same routes again in video. We have some nice stills of the St. Nicholas Breaker still intact. We never knew the old Whitcomb diesel was buried in among the weeds and bushes! Looking at old maps, it's amazing and sad to see how much has been lost even in the past couple of decades.

Very nice job on this - great music! I believe that those gray Epic containers on flatcars transport sewage sludge from the New York City area. The Wayne Township Landfill in McElhattan PA (Clinton County) is accepting the material for disposal. The forward thinking management at the landfill constructed a rail yard at the site a few years ago in anticipation of this deal. The yard is adjacent to the NS Buffalo line. Kudos to the WTL folks for using rail!!

Coal town U.S.A. is the only thing left of what was the greatest mineing industry in the world, Gone but never forgotten. gone because somebody whos name starts with a T in washington D C said he would bring it all back but lied to get in office. Another super vid by A C. This ones the icing on the cake A C. i watched the coal breaker being took down. Very sad, broke my heart. Whats S.A.D. about all of this is my dad and men like him helped john l lewis start and fight to get U.M.W , the union back in the 1920s. To look at it today was all the hell and death worth it ? I don't know what's more insane you thought coal was coming back or it's his fault it's dead. All a president can do is de regulate regulations put into place that killed coal, but the free market will prevail. As long as gas Is cheaper that will be what's bought and used. You can't force people to buy something they don't want, well unless its health insurance lololol.

Although I've seem much of the Dutch Country, I've never been north of Reading. I've never seen the Anthracite Coal Region. Is there any chance that you'd publish where the scenes are located, travelogue style, as I'd like to find them in person to photograph them? Thanks! noemdfan (because when the going got tough, with serious competition from GE, General Motors chose to use GM as their Cash Cow, and forego the engineering and testing, trashing the reputation that made EMD #1 for so many years). Excellent video. Thanks so much. Can you tell me more about the NJ Transit Commuter cars? I see strings of 3 or 4 of them in the Erwin yard in Upstate NY every so often and I'm always curious about where they're coming from and going to.

They come from North Jersey and they go to either Bombardier in Dansville or Alstrom in Hornell for routine maintenance and/or repair.

Question 2- Why are the names on some of the boxcars painted over?
@Trains21

Perhaps graffiti or new reporting marks most likely.

Seeing all of those tagged freight cars, it seems to me that RR police are much better at chasing railfans than at chasing car taggers.😢

U were right by the Tamaqua station and didn't include it??? Also just a few minutes away from what was called an engineering marvel at the time it was built...Lansford-Hauto tunnel which along with the Lehigh and New England passenger, freight depot still stand today. A very important part of coal country railroading lost in the passage of time.
@Trains21
@Trains21 7 жыл бұрын
Didn't include the station (along with other stuff) because didn't have enough video time to include everything.. Lansford and LNE station were unknown to me at the time.

I remember seeing pictures of this train last year, how come it took you a long time to release the footage?
@Trains21
@Trains21 7 жыл бұрын
I have 2 years of footage and shoot more all of the time but can only put out a little each day.. It's a combination of things that determine which footage is released at a particular time.

When I seen the title, I thought I was going to see old Coal RR names hauling coal with Alco's old SD-9's etc. Instead I see modern day NS power hauling general freight on clickety-clack sectional track. ------ Borrrrrrrrr-ing !!

R. Baker, I did not say I found this video "boring." I said that if I see a video titled "Welcome to coal country," I would expect to see a coal train with hoppers not general freight on the trains. Honestly I thought it was a good video, but found the title "Clickbait-ish"

@@jayl8034 since coal's on the decline the RRs have to utilize the tracks with other commodities they just can't not use em just because they're not hauling coal loads it sucks but it is what it is.
