Glad your liking the videos! Dubspot actually does have an online DJ course "Digital DJing with Traktor" which is taught by myself (Endo) and DJ Shiftee. Check it out on Dubspot.com . As far as the S4 goes, it will automatically be recognized by Traktor. My advice is when you install any update of Traktor make sure you install the drivers for EVERYTHING, that way any Native Instruments product is plug and play with Traktor including the S4.

@ArtPitchBlack with the loop recorder set the input for the loop recorder to be "Aux" by clicking underneat the gain knob, then set your "Aux" input in the input routing section of the preferences.

Yes you can route any deck in Traktor to its own output on your soundcard, so you could run a remix deck through a separate channel on your DJ mixer and use EQ's and effects over it. Any deck can be a remix deck in Traktor as well.

Yes you can copy from the loop recorder into a remix deck slot using the capture function on the F1 or by dragging and dropping from the loop recorder into an empty remix deck cell.

@fealmor Turn Key Lock on in Traktor. Its the musical note in the decks in Traktor. That is the same thing as master tempo. You can also engage it on the Traktor S4 by holding shift and pushing the Play button

Plug them into the microphone jack. Its a trick us "old schoolers" used back in the day to announce the afterparty at the end of our sets when we couldn't find a microphone :)

@MrNynaxx Yes, you can make a shortcut in Maschine to your Traktor Samples folder, where all of your samples are stored. Once you sample something in Traktor S4, you can then go to Maschine, find that sample and then drag it into a sound slot and chop it up.

I prefer the S4 over the Pioneer DDJ because the S4 was made by the makers of Traktor, so anytime there is an update, the default mapping of the S4 is updated as well giving you maximum compatibility. With the Pioneer you have to wait for Pioneer to put out a new mapping for the new features, but might be waiting a long time (or forever) for that. What do you think are the advantages of the Pioneer DDJ over the S4?

@BackBurner144 There is a built in Recorder that lets you record the INTERNAL signal in Traktor S4. Your recordings will come out sounding amazing since you don't have to run audio through cables, mixer etc and you can get that "in the box" sound

@lifsa you need to go to preferences - output routing and set the monitor output to whatever output you have your headphones plugged into. Then you need to turn on the Cue (Headphone) button inside of Traktor to hear the track in the headphones

@DoctorIncredible Right exactly. And don't forget the S4 Hardware was made by the same company who makes the software, so compatibility with Traktor and upgrades are always going to be up to date and run in parallel.

@adrenerg The great thing about the S4 is you can keep it as simple as you want, or get as advanced as you want. They purposely put the volume faders for Decks A&B in the middle for DJs who are using only 2 decks. The cue function is great for jumping to the beginning of a track, and will save you time finding the one.

This is possibly a dumb question... but do you think that Traktor (or any other PC DJ controller manufacturer) will make jog wheels with motors in them to make them have a continuous rotation to give the effect of momentum, for when you apply manual pressure to the wheels when scratching? I can already guess that the response is "If you want that, then go get -real- decks."

@MrRexxyboy I am actually working on a custom MIDI mapping for the Traktor Kontrol S4. Will keep you guys posted! I might put a knob for key mapping in it. Good idea. If you want to add a knob to change the key, you will add an "Add in" command in the MIDI mapping window (preferences - controller manager - Kontrol S4 device). The command is under add in - mixer - key. Set the value to Increase (or decrease), then assign which deck, and the sensativity (play around with dif sensativities).

@alexkwong31 Those are 1/4" Cables. I have them plugged into the Master Output of my S4. Unfortunately you can use only one output on the S4. What I do is plug the S4 into a DJ mixer and use the DJ mixers booth out to adjust the booth volume

@specialcase1000 It all depends on your experience and preference. I prefer to use an analog (hardware) mixer such as a Pioneer DJM 900 or Allen & Heath Xone DB4 over traktors internal mixer (Traktor Kontrol S4), however for DJs who are just getting started and don't have the equipment already, the S4 is an amazing bang for your buck and using the controller is like having your hand inside the program, and its all you need to rock out with 4 decks + all the magic of Traktor on the go.

You need to make sure the beatgrid and BPM is set correctly in your track (in the Grid Panel below the deck) before capturing samples. If the BPM is doubled , the sample will play very slow, and if the BPM is halved in the track, the sample will play very fast. You can double or half the BPM by clicking on the x2 or /2 buttons in the grid panel

@deadmau5Jr not very good quality, but yes, it is possible. my first "electric guitar" was an acoustic with a mounted headphone running into a home receiver. it'll work, but much better with an actual mic.

@ptesls818 using the headphone as a lowfi mic is probably such an old trick, you would have to shovel the dust off. this works the same with all electro-magnetic vibration transducers ( speaker, mic, headphone, ... ) : put current on them, and they vibrate. vibrate them, and they produce current. if you plug in a mic in the headphone connector, it should produce sound.

Go to preferences - Mix Recorder and set the recording source to internal. Then go to the Audio Recorder in the upper right hand side of Traktors screen (the cassette tape icon), turn the volume of the recorder up so its as loud as possible without going into the reds, then hit the red record button to start the recording.
