Absolutely amazing that there are still such high quality air conditioning manufacturers like Trane that can build a TXV equipped system that can last 5 whole years before it fails and needs a repair. Just like A coils that total replacement cost as much as half the price of a new unit depending on where you live, like here where our local repairmen charge over $150 per hour labor and 10 to 20 times their cost of the refrigerant and about 200 to 300 percent markup on parts. Give me a standard old fixed orifice unit any day. But I guess I can cry about that all day just like the fact that they don't sell R 22 new units anymore either. But I think I'd like to move to South Carolina just so I can get this guy to charge me a fair price for quality work...either that or Steve Lav's town. Then again, I'd have to move to upstate New York to get my cars worked on by South Main Auto youtuber too, man I'd be movin all over the place just to not get screwed.

I was just thinking back to when we had our system replaced. The TXV was bad from the start and it had to be replaced. Three years later it had to be replaced again. It's a puron system Recently the big line frosted and I thought here we go again. I cleaned the condenser coil and the A coil (as best as I could still mounted in handler). It needed it. Also cleaned the fan. Seems to be good now it's been a few weeks. Small line is warm the big line is cold and the fan is pumping out slightly warm air

If used on small lines, like liquid with little heat sinking, you can knock it out if you’re proficient. The TXVs are pretty tolerant, if you don’t jack around and keep pouring heat into them. Yes, not ideal, but it works; ‘put it to bed and move on.’

My SMAN 3 gauges had a leak around the sight glass. The rubber gasket pulls in when you pull a vacuum on those. I took my sight glass out and sealed the gasket with the clear refrigeration sealer and tighten the brass ring. This is the problem with the sight glass gauges.

Great videos but I need to chime in on the evac. Something totally wrong there, even if going through your manifold. I just did 60 feet of 3/8 and 7/8 and had it down to 250 microns in exactly 15 minutes and another 15 minutes to 160 microns, through my Titan manifold and Robinair 5 cfm two stage pump. I pull the schrader cores and use a 3/8 vac hose to the manifold which helps a lot. I would suspect your pump is bad and suggest connecting the micron gauge directly to it and see if you pull down to under 250 and how long it takes to get there. My pump with fresh oil gets to 16 (no typo) microns in less than 1 minute.

Don't really need thermo paste just a wet rag wrapped around the txv and it's only 3/8 " copper...if u are good with ur touching it should only take 10 or 15 seconds to make that solder joint, then quickly turn off ur acetylene and use just the oxygen from ur torches to slowly cool the joint
