i lived on a boat from 5 years old to 15 years old. 10 years, in key west, boca chica bay. it was a liveaboard, fully equipped sailing vessel. you are in for a real experience. for young aiden, this will shape his mind for the rest of his life. good luck, one piece of advice:: learn how to navigate using a sextant, learn how to navigate using a sextant....repeat. i can't stress it enough.....you never know when gps will fail or batteries will fail, or lightning will strike your vessel, or other strange electrical phenomena ...(St. elmo's fire!!)
@Expedition_Tranquilo7 жыл бұрын
Got it! More concerned about lightning smoking all our electronics, even though we have around 8 devices which can provide us with gps coordinates. Thanks for the tip!
@d.cypher29207 жыл бұрын
Sailing Tranquilo st elmo's fire is caused by lightning charging up all metals in area. but i hear you... one solar flare though, hmmm. the chances are obviously very remote. but i've found if you give the universe a chance to bring up that very remote possibility...it will. nice video.

G'day, mates , all the best wishes for the adventur! Two things I haven't seen before: Boathook under Deck and the cabinet door in front of the control panel / vhf. Seems impractical, i guess the door may actually bite you in heavy weather...
@Expedition_Tranquilo7 жыл бұрын
Hi Horst, yes the door over the control panel would be inconvenient, however we also have a handheld that connects to the VHF so we can use it everywhere on the yacht. And we're yet to find a better spot for the boathook, but it's working up to now.

Amazing start! Im myself in the forties and with young kids, and considering seriously of embracing your same lifestyle. moreover I also share your methodology, and I own a 2011 Hanse 400 I bought new and with many strange options specifically requested. I think it would be nice to post a list in this post with all the thing you chose to purchase, for future reference and to our delightment. A couple of suggestions from another Hanse sailor: get access to the wiring of the anchor windlass (I had to cut throug the cabin wall and made a permanente access); make sure you have access to rudder cables (I broke them twice while navigating in 18 knots, and It was not pleasant nor easy to make the repair). In case you are willing to do it now change the metal wires with dyneema. Put in the mast, fifteen cm under the entry of the selftacking jib sheet an halyard-guide (steel ring with no sharp edges) as tensioning the sheet wihle on one side cuts the rope. Make sure you have onboard a strong handpump to blow air in the L intake of gazole, as sometimes (quite often, let's say twice a season) especially after a rough navigation it gets obstructed and the engine goes off (there was recently a dramatic accident here in Italy last spring probably due to this issue, three people died); In case it happens quickly deconnect the tube going to the prefilter, put the pump tube into the metal Lshaped sucking tube and blow as hard as you can, it will free the intake and you are good to go, just remember to purge the air with the pump on the engine afterwards. I really look forward to see your adventures...

Great yacht name! Look forward to the Croatia, video's. Like to know the cost of ports in Croatia, a night! If you like to tell us. Thanks
@Expedition_Tranquilo7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Justin. Croatia isn't cheap, they seem to milk everything associated with tourism. Marinas are around EUR 80 - 100 per night even in May, town wharves are a bit cheaper at EUR 60 per night, and a buoy in town or a national park is still EUR 40 per night. Churches, monuments, all cost to enter. But it is a spectacular country!

Hello family, good start, although some awkward moments when you are obviously acting for the camera... you will get used to be more natural. Looking forward to see the commissioning video, but may I mention that the fire blanket is not located in a correct place: if the stove is on fire, you will have to step between the companionway and the corner of the galley furniture to grab the blanket, without being protected from the fire. Once you pass Croatia, don't forget to stop in Montenegro, that is an awesome place (golf of Tivat). enjoy!
