Just finished watching the last part. It was indeed a great experience traveling with you! In Indian philosophy the term...Nishkaam karmayoga.....means doing things without any expectations for the good of others, and this is surely one of those. The joy you have passed on to so many who want but can't make this journey will join me in blessing you. Thanks a million!!!

Wish it never stops!! Since my very childhood I'm dreaming of this trip! In the early 70's, when I was just 8-10, I used to depict it on a notebook! Thanks to Doc, I was able to experience it almost in real time, 'til I do it on my own... One day.. These vids are part of my dream come true!.. Many, many thanks for having taken time to put in online.. Greetings from France!

9 hours vs 3,5 hours thats cool. I did not know that Russia has also High speed trains. Approximately your train travels 100km/h and the high speed train is about 250km/h. If my guess is correct :)
@anatolyi.80094 жыл бұрын
You are quite right. The October Railway uses Sapsan ('peregrine falcon') high-speed trains that are a winterized broad-gauge version of ICE3. The only thing to be added is that we have built no dedicated lines; so, while being the straightest in Russia, the Moscow-SPb line is full of slow traffic, so Sapsan only reaches 250 km/h somewhere in the middle - also slowed down by limited power of the 3kV DC catenary.

850 km (14:02) i blisko 9 godzin (15:42) daje średnią ok. 94 km/h. Znacznie lepiej niż na wschód od Moskwy, ale... Autor filmu podkreśla, że ten pociąg to ekspres i to flagowy ekspres! To jednak za mała prędkość by mówić o rzeczywiście nowoczesnej kolei. Nowoczesna kolej to średnia prędkość powyżej 100 km/h i to nie jeden kilometr więcej a kilkadziesiąt kilometrów na godzinę więcej... Chińczycy górą!
@stanislavkostarnov21574 жыл бұрын
actually, traditionally the most elite type train of the Moscow - St-Petersburgh line is the Red-Arrow, though it is somewhat more old-fashioned in its decor... I also understand the wish to take more time by taking a slightly slower train, but this is a comment for the claim at the start of the video... Grand Express is certainly one of the top trains, however is usually considered between 3rd and 5th in the pecking order of Moscow-Leningrad (as the line is still called) expresses.
@doc7austin4 жыл бұрын
Which train is on the top and second of the pecking order?
@stanislavkostarnov21574 жыл бұрын
@@doc7austin top is definitely the RedArrow, the second one is the one now called Express-Express (initially named RedArrow 2, it is virtually just an extension of the RedArrow service, but uses a dark melody-blue rather then Burgundy as the base color scheme for its velvet's and curtains, both trains are dressed in a lot of teak and mahogany). saying all this, it's more a case of poshness & noble-tradition rather then actual comfort, because, both of these trains have an older & generally narrower layout (more people per carriage) then the SPb-Grand-Express you went on.
