Thank you for the dramatic scenes of Lake Baikal. It was dark when my train passed by the lake so I didn't see a thing - and the lake was one of the main reasons I wanted to explore Siberia in the first place! Actually I'm seeing and learning more from your video trip than I did on my Trans-Mongolian/Siberian tour in 2011. I didn't enjoy riding and sleeping in 4-bed cabin so I upgraded to first class on last leg of the trip and that was a whole different ballgame because I had the cabin to myself for most of time until I was joined by a beautiful Russian soldier. Thanks again because I'm really enjoying the virtual ride.

This is sublime. I would love is a map where you show the route of the trip in the video. How do people in some of those towns live? Do they hunt? I lived a year in the permafrost of Alaska and the natives were horribly poor. The borscht looked amazing. I grew up eating it. My grandparents were from Kyev. Also loved your commentary about the drunk hooligans in the dining car. They're ubiquitous in every country. In America, use the insulting phrase, Trailer Trash. Thanks for your work in both thoughts and images!

Industry.Soviets brought a lot of mining,steel and machienary industries here,so many of us even dont hunting anymore,even natives. Just match Alaska and Pittsburg.
@badquestion47853 жыл бұрын
These area has oil, metals, timber, etc. So people mine, use that. Soviets have build huge factories that used those materials to build all kinds of things. Soviet collapse have hurt these people horribly, but still some industry remains. In russia, people who live by hunting are a very veeeerrryyy small minority. You need to go to true subartic region, north of irkutsk.

What a wonderful journey you had. I've watched all five parts of it from Vladivostok to Novosibirsk. I remember learning about those two cities, Lake Baikal and other places on the Trans Siberian Railway in Geography lessons at school 57 years ago. Very interesting and as others have said, there wasn't any distracting background music. Russia looks after it's railways much better than the USA does. The sleepers (ties in America) and ballast are kept in tip-top condition. Those important components of a rail system look pretty sad in the USA. On another KZbin video I've watched it was said (by an American) that the reason for this, is that the railways are privately owned, and the owners don't want to spend money on upkeep of the infrastructure. Also that this is apparently one of the reasons why the speed of Amtrak trains is limited. Thanks so much for posting these videos. At 20:05 in Video 4, I think you hit the wrong key on your keyboard, and “mushroom bum” should be “mushroom bun”. It certainly looks like a bun with mushrooms on it!
