@@ocher8931 And as soon as we watch a podcast that loses its authenticity and doesn't attempt to always speak the truth, to the point that they believe it to be, that's when we usually tune out as far as the masses go.. Yes there's still podcasts out there that aren't genuine with their beliefs, but very soon after that the public loses interest..

I'm a trans woman and saw Dave Chappelle at the Hollywood Bowl a few weeks ago. I'm completely in alignment with the ideas here. Yes, sometimes we have to rally for the cause and for our people, but I also just want to be me. I shouldn't be ostracized by the people who claim to be my community and have my back because I exercise my autonomy to be an individual with nuanced opinions.

She said it perfectly IMO... it's not always a fight. And in my assessment, the indentity-based tribalism in modern culture is preventing a lot of people from historically marginalized groups from looking past the fight-flight feelings. I think our step in society is to normalize the humanization of the individuals of the tribe, because we will then progress towards the feelings of belonging for reasons beyond one's own identity. We shouldn't have to identity with somebody else to connect with them.

It’s not about how they are treated, it’s about power dynamic. A lot of transgender tasted the sweetness in being able to have someone cancel, and they have been reckless with it. The moment people realized that it granted them powers, they started abusing it

My take is if you don't agree with Trans, fine don't you do not have to hang out with a Trans. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't want to hang out with you either. Only problems I have is when they try to teach about sexuality in schools as well as combat sports. Maybe add Transsexuality in health class for high school students but not middle school down to grade school. Also, in combat sports I completely disagree having a Trans woman compete with, not sure how to word it without offending but a woman. Don't' care what everybody says however there is a MASSIVE advantage for the Trans fighter. Even if you are taking hormone replacements your body has already developed muscles etc. Bottom line create a new league for Trans fighter or new weight class so they can complete. While I'm add it even the swimming ordeal that's just not right.

That’s the logical conclusion to come to. No one cares about trans people. They can do what they want as long as they’re not taking opportunities from those who earned them, which you mostly only see with “male-to-female” transformations. Also, they need to leave the kids alone. Other than that, do what you want with your body. Just don’t force others to participate in the facade.

Blackness is not a monolithic experience but the black plight is a shared experience throughout the diaspora. As a African girl who was raised in both Africa and America, white Americans and many white Europeans enforce the ideas of hyper individuality which has its pros and cons but most importantly the affect of individualisms within community based groups like black people usually is cause for disruption of tradition and sometimes power. Every black group that has come together in America has been deemed as a threat to American society and disbanded under the guise of terrorism. Now, as a black person I believe a lot of the issues that black people have in judgment of each other is origines in pandering to whiteness=white masculinity=white Christianity. Most of the things black people lash out at other black people about is about how we present. Black masculinity has become so fragile and easily threatened because of its relationship/introduction to “masculinity” through the guise of slavery. They then have enforced this emulation/ mimicking of what was believed to be powerful and masculine onto black women. When POC communities learn to work more as interdependent much like the Jewish community there’s more room for the individual and support for us all as a collective. I think many other minority groups as well as disadvantaged groups should adopt the same thinking. One person shouldn’t be constantly burdened to speak/think for the masses, it puts a target on their heads but more importantly it truly slows down the progress and evolution of the collective. I think Kendrick Lamar really touched on this same exact thing in his newest album. Like as a woman im going to say I don’t believe Amber Heard, I a think JK Rowling was right, and I never stopped watching Chappell and refuse to have any nuance on my opinions.
@barryseebo3535
@barryseebo3535 2 жыл бұрын
I hear what you are saying, and while there are nuances to discuss, the one that stood out was you talking about the masculine fragility amongst black men. Thes is not a new concept, as an historian nothing is new really, in that it is what we call an honor society. This was very evident in the Mediterranean, particularly focused in the Iberian Peninsula, it was also prevalent in later European and early American culture. The idea that one must defend any slight against one's character, often through violence be it fisticuffs or a duel. Remember, Arron Burr, the vice president, shot and killed Alexander Hamilton, the former Secretary of the Treasury, in a dual over an insult. Thus, this fragility is not something unique to young black males. It is merely manifested more strongly with that group while it has diminished to a greater degree amongst those of European descent (not entirely, because teenage boys still beat the shit out of each other for talking smack). Cube addressed this in Friday with the speech from John Witherspoon about using fists over guns. I think one of the main problems that plague these young men are two fold. One, the most populous group of blacks in the US are in their 20s, the modal age of blacks is 29, whereas whites it is 58, which also explains a large portion of wealth inequality. I know the baby making music was strong in the 90s but damn, black folk were getting it on in the 90s. The second is the fact that when the Moynahan Report came out in 1965, he considered it a national crisis that 25% of black children were born to single parents (thus leading the push for welfare programs to help. which actually incentive single parenthood, which was reenforced by overzealous social workers), now it is around 75%. That means as strong as momma is, she can't teach her son how to be a man. She can try her best, but she was never a teenage boy to know what he is going through any more than a man can know what it is like to be a teenage girl (which is why daddies are so suspicious of any boy their daughters are talking to, cause they know what he is like). Without anyone to guide them through that period, they rely on the only males in their lives, their peers, who are just as lost and angry and aggressive as they are. It then becomes Lord of the Flies. This is also a self-perpetuating cycle as these same lost boys will also likely abdicate their responsibilities toward fatherhood as theirs did them. Until the family structure is returned, it is unlikely to change for that 22% of the black community in poverty (no one like to point out that 78% of blacks are middle class and above). I am not saying this as a criticism, but as a white guy, I will get blasted for saying it, but it is not something I have any power or influence to change. I am not a black man to mentor these kids. And while I taught at an overwhelmingly black school (95%), there were those who accused me of being a white savior, when I treated those kids the same as I did when I later went to a 60 W/40 B school. My kids are my kids and I try to lead them on a path to success no matter what they look like or where they came from. But the point is, no matter how pure my intentions, I can't fix it because there is an automatic doubt because of the real white saviors, prejudiced teachers, and however many bad interactions they may have had or heard of. This is a problem that must be fixed within the community, by the community, and not white folks, brown folks, or asian folks, are going to fix it. It has to be the community working within the community. I still think the government should tax incentivize married parents over single parents. Not because I want to hurt single parents, but maybe that way there would be less of them. That is the only thing I can see that I can do to help is to push for that kind of legislation. But I think that needs to be the priority within the black community to return to the stable family, even if it is likely to take two or three generations to fix, it is the first step to a better future. Thoughts?

Every black group that has come together in America has been deemed as a threat to American society and disbanded under the guise of terrorism." The problem here lies within how the community accepts and ignores certain parts of their problematic clan. if im correctly understanding your point, We as black people tend to keep the bad and never reprimand them as a community. As well as when your community actively discourages following the rules of the society? Im gonna assume the groups that stem from that cancerous mindset are a bit, Hypocritical (see BLM) "Now, as a black person I believe a lot of the issues that black people have in judgment of each other is origines in pandering to whiteness=white masculinity=white Christianity. Most of the things black people lash out at other black people about is about how we present." Most of what black people lash out at each other over is ignorance and poverty, theres also just a general like of lighter skin people no matter the race. its not JUST a black person thing. look at any race that has discrepancies in their skin tones. i dont even know where you are getting this from. blaming white people for cultural issues within the black community is just going to create more strife while we kill each other over disagreements online. " When POC communities learn to work more as interdependent much like the Jewish community there’s more room for the individual and support for us all as a collective." Jewish communities as a collective are MUCH more wealthy and culturally homogenized than black people or almost any other minority group. "I think many other minority groups as well as disadvantaged groups should adopt the same thinking. One person shouldn’t be constantly burdened to speak/think for the masses, it puts a target on their heads but more importantly it truly slows down the progress and evolution of the collective." the problem lies with how people collect behind themselves. a big issue you arent seeing which i mentioned up top, is white people DO think of themselves as a collective, they just throw out the trash when needed. Thats a problem in the American black community, unsure of elsewhere because im only an american black person. "Like as a woman im going to say I don’t believe Amber Heard, I a think JK Rowling was right, and I never stopped watching Chappell and refuse to have any nuance on my opinions." and thats an even bigger problem in the community. Staying willfully ignorant.
@barryseebo3535

@@yondaimesin Your statement of taking out the trash is spot on. I have analyzed it this way. Many people were mad that a large percentage of white folk didn't throw their support behind BLM or said All Lives Matter. It was actual equality from the white perspective. When a white person is shot by police the go to thought for white people that I know is "What did he do that got him shot?" when a black person is shot by police, the exact same thought process takes place. What did the criminal do to get shot. When there is no justification, such as with the SC officer who just shot the guy in the back, we agree absolutely, put the guy in jail and throw away the key. We don't "accept it" when a cop shoots someone with no provocation, but we also don't accept bad behavior that leads to a violent interaction. Michael Brown was not an innocent guy with his hands up, Trayvon Martin was not some baby-faced kid who just got blasted in the street, and as much as I think Chauvin was culpable and should face penalty for reckless, I cannot say, based on the evidence, that he was the only factor involved to make it "beyond a reasonable doubt" he was at fault (the lethal levels of drugs, the delay in medical care because of the crowd, the second camera angle of his position on Floyd). I remember watching the entire film of Rodney King and thinking for a good portion, dude, stay down, and then there is that moment where he does and the cops keep going, and at that point they are all guilty from them on. But what many people didn't accept is the time before it went too far and placed it all in the same context. Where the misconception about white folk comes in is assuming that the problem is that the victim is black, no it is the same standard which we place on white folks, the determination of a racial component lies entirely in the black community. There is a book by sociologist Rogers Brubacker called Ethnicity Without Groups, where he posits that it is not the individuals involved who place an ethnicity on a situation, but those who observe and report of the incident. Cop shoots fleeing suspect has a different connotation than White cop shoots fleeing black suspect. Notice that the facts of the situation do not change, but based on the reporting your perception does. Racism is not going to die, it exists in all communities. Seriously, be a white person and go to Sweden or Denmark and try and get a job, it isn't solidarity of being white, it is the exclusion because you are not of the same culture, and lets not get started on Eastern Asia, there is even, as you mentioned, colorism within black the black community or in the southwest Asian communities, Hell, look at the Hutus and Tutsis in Rwanda, or the Sunni, Shia, and Kurds in the middle East. This is the nature of humans when we other people, and the current rhetoric in the black activism community is an us/them mentality, which is the same mentality as the white supremacists. When most of us are just like, is the person cool with me, then they are a good person. I don't like rap after around 94 (or most music to be honest, I am at that point in life) I am not a fan of sportsball, and I am an academic. So if the Lil Wayne look alike who has a foul mouth in public, is blasting his mumble rap at 120 db out of a car that the mods cost more than the car, I am going to make a judgement that he is not someone with shared interest. Not because he is black, but his presentation because it is the same as I would make if it were a white person in a jacked up pickup truck, with dog boxes, and profanity laden window stickers, they are not my peer group. however, in one scenario I would be labeled racist, where the other no one would judge me. I think that is what stalls any real discussion of issues. it has become a situation of, as was said, monolithic in that you have to accept all aspects or you are an enemy, but it can not be examined for nuance of any sort. Thoughts?

@@yondaimesin I don't think you understood what I wrote and aren't thinking critically before answering. I'm going to answer you in two parts, give you authors, case studies, as well as quotes from historical figures. 1. Your point here is confusing because as I stated blackness is not a monolithic experience and black people should be able to live, give opinions, thoughts, ideas that are their own without having it be held against the entirety of the race. We should be able to to do all this within the black community and externally. Certain issues though require the collective support and energy of the entire community to push for justice and equality in spaces where there isn't, which is many. The BLM group should be regarded the same way as any group that has profited off of the fear, issues, and the pain/trauma of a community. I don't believe all the bad eggs are given shelter, if anything most people within the black community shun said bad eggs harder because they do not want their own black experience to be seen(and the question here is by who) in comparison to theirs. Much like Andrew stated as a white man, he free to make mistakes or give opinions and his actions do not fall on the shoulders of the collective unlike many minority groups. There is a larger level of scrutiny for the shortcomings, mistakes, and failures of black people as whole to their white counterparts. The judicial system is a prime example. Studies done by the ACLU reported that from the 2.3 million drug arrests in the US more than half are marijuana based. Statistically, within the U.S black and white people have used marijuana at the same rate for the last 10+ years but blacks are 3.73 times more likely than whites to be arrested for marijuana. The scrutiny we give black groups and movements like I stated isn't near as much as we do their white counterparts. BLM is perfect for this example but in truth I was referring to the Black Panthers, who are seen and projected by mainstream media as a criminal organization/a terrorist group yet they created the SNAP or food stamps/WIC program that the entire U.S still uses to this day to help feed many single mothers and low income families. They were flawed people yes, but the level of scrutiny they experience in contrast to actual radical terrorist organization such as the KKK and white supremist groups isn't and wasn't on the same level. Example, The Cancer Fund of America which is one of the US's largest philanthropic organizations run by James T Reynolds, takes a annual salary of $230,000 but not just himself each and every family member takes $230,000. This charity only funds 2.5% of it's donations to support families of cancer victims. Yet this "charity", the American Breast Cancer Foundation, and the Children's Wish Foundation all groups who pocket money from victims and use it to pay themselves are still functioning and rarely questioned. Shit, you see donation buckets for them in grocery stores, fast food restaurants, and schools. Where is the accountability? Are they "thrown in the garbage?" like you stated? 2. Your point on poverty and skin tone is strange because it just supports what I said? I want you to answer me this, how is poverty created, what historically events contributed to black poverty within this country, and who created the system of colorism? How is colorism defined? Who benefits from the divisions that colorism creates? There is historical evidence and information on this topic. I'm getting this from data, science, and research/history. I can't do this work for you but here journals.library.wustl.edu/globalstudies/article/id/365/ download the paper and read,www.aaihs.org/colorism-as-racism-garvey-du-bois-and-the-other-color-line/, news.uga.edu/history-of-colorism-sheds-light-on-discrimination/. What I wrote will only make sense when you're more educated on these issues and won't further explain until then. 3. Please think about my statement through answering these critical thinking points. What does their wealth have to do with black communities replicating their(Jewish communities) interdependent communal practices? Please define Independency. What percentage of the market is kept alive by minority groups? How much do black people contribute as whole to the overall GDP? Wouldn't it be more fruitful for us to change the way we invest, spend, and distribute our wealth? Why are Jewish communities so wealthy? What are the communal practices that keep the wealth flowing within the community? Now, look at what you wrote. How does that make sense to what I said and my touch points. 4. Lastly, how is anything I said willfully ignorant when most of your statements are opinion based? I said I wont give nuance to my opinion, not that opinions aren't developed or supported by data and research. This goes back to the original touch point of my post as stated by Andrew. He is allowed to give a opinion as a white man and not be made a representative for his group. I am allowed to have my own opinions and they do not have to reflect that of the collective yet here you are perpetuating the same issue he talked about plagues people of color. You stated "that's an even bigger problem within the community, staying willfully ignorant." Why are you making me opinion the issue of the community when I am my own person? You are the exact problem he talked about. As a African girl who has traveled a lot of the world and who lives in this country I must say your lack of education on the part of your race and community is "willful ignorance". Here is a list of books I recommend to hopefully ramify that. Peace brother. And with socialism it's about economic status. But it's being used for feminism, LGTBQ rights, race relations, etc. All of those can also label people as oppressed and oppressor, ignoring that a lot of people just want to live free and not be activists. I'm a liberal but I think the far left is just as loony as the far right. Treating all the centrists as being "part of the problem" if they aren't "part of the solution" is what caused all this tribalism.

If you can't laugh at yourself, you have no business saying anything about anyone else. People need to learn to take jokes about themselves or else no one will take them seriously.

Not really. If you think about how the people you think are ugly have continued generation after generation. You realize how empty these standards and observations can be for many.

I listened to this episode and my God, Daisey seems like the coolest person to kick it with, she didn't take hereself too seriously and she was laughing at the guys jokes and all, I didn't even know who she was, had to Google it. I'm a Nigerian living in Nigeria so I've probably never met a trans person but damn...if all trans people are like her, then I fuck with y'all!
