The Best Megatron? Newage Toys VS Magic Square Legends Megatron Review.

I really appreciate this review, as I have the Newage, and was considering getting the MS. Now I don’t feel like I HAVE to get the MS. I LOVE the Newage offering, as it was my very first legends figure. Now I will say that IF MS upsized this dude to masterpiece scale, he would may be the best Megatron available. He looks 100% toon. I think the NewAge looks like a mini MP-36, while the Magic Square is a mini DX9, with the wider chest and beefier legs. I think I'm going with NA and hoping they release a Prime someday.

They did, though Magic Square made a new Optimus as well, and it’s a pretty close tie. I prefer the Magic Square version but, but both are great.

Going with the magic square for sure as I like the BEEF of him, just looks more intimidating imo. But it’s cool to see that you win either way. Really is a legends collectors paradise we in rn

Technically they're not the same height. Deluxe forgot to mention his Newage Megatron had the hip extension on throughout this VS video which increases his height. Newage Megatron is shorter than MS.

Hey Deluxe nice review! I have that new age megs, but I puchased from ebay as Jinbao brand. It came with a few gun accessories stock suppressor. Also came with 2 faces, the energy creature, blast effects, additional hands, vector sigma key, purple blaster from tf movie, and a support stand.

Despite some well known details of Newage Meg, as the back or the hips, I´m reasonably satisfied with the style and design. Perhaps someday I´ll get the upgrade kits, but It´s fine for now. Since there are a metallic version of Newage Meg and Magic Square Prime, I´ve got some curiosity for seeing a metallic version of their Megatron.

hey man the magic square gun mode, you can actually rotate that barrel and make it a lot more aligned better. that slit on the barrel is actually for the single rivet coming out.

Dead race between MS and NA version Megatron :) Great video as always. I have watied too long for MS Megatron to see which one is better. Most likely I'll choose MS because I am big fan of G1 cartoons :D

I might add that NA fits in alt mode really beautiful with Jinbao Devastator damaged version (if you check on showz store i uploaded a pict). seems MS can fit in a Fanstoys Menasor or Zeta Bruticus but i'm just guessing from size comparisons.

Funny that the MS has the more complex transformation but simplified aesthetic. I prefer the greater detail, line work and paint on my figures, so I tend to go with NA over MS, but I am the guy that thinks the more complicated the transformation the better, so maybe I also need to go in on the MS. But maybe I'll wait for them to do a nice silver repaint or something.

egg-uh-MEM-non. I'm giving the alt mode aesthetics award to Newage even though the Magic Square does have a much cleaner look (the proportions are just off...to be fair, I think bot mode proportions are off on both of them). And, I think Magic Square might have the overall better bot mode aesthetics. And, I'll have to check out your detailed review for the transformation portion...but I'm thinking the Newage is probably more fun. They have some genius transformations.

I completely respect your choice of newage megatron over magic square. I mean no disrespect to you I'm your biggest fan and I think the world needs more people like you in it. For me the magic square blows the doors off the new age megatron. The magic square version looks identical to the show megatron. The new age megatron just looks weird with the little waist and small chest. New age megatron is also a pain in the ass to stand up. He always looks like he is leaning forward. I thought the new legs would help but the new legs are a disaster. The waist seems to hang to low and the legs want to come together. I think magic square nailed it. Just superior in every way in my opinion. The shoulder joints look good when his arms are in any position. Lift new age megs arms and you'll see what I mean. Also new age megs has the skinny legs that I never cared for and dont even get me started on the back. Looks like a bomb went off back there. Magic square megatron seems more solid, nothing moves around like new age with the upper arms that always unfold. Thanks for a great show hail magic square

Funny because I have the same thought...only in reverse. MS looks Awesome but too bulky for my liking. I see more of seasons 1 and 2 megatron with agamemnon. Seige megs definitely MS. Alt mode isn't even close. The feet on MS and shorter barrel are deal breakers for me. Obviously to each his her or own however.

Been waiting 35 years for a megatron I could be proud of and now there are two to choose from. Can't wait till I can finish my magic square generation 1 soldiers. Really, it’s a landslide for new age. The magic square has SUCH a bulky chest and a really short torso, and his barrel of the gun mode seems too big in robot mode, but too small in alt mode. The magic square is just generally less proportioned than the new age in both modes. The new age is a slim but still somewhat buff figure, it’s articulation seems better, and that entire torso-chest region is perfect. The legs on the new age are also just so much better. The entire line new age made for g1 figures looks great, and I already have their version of Optimus prime and bumblebee, so this one is definitely a steal. Especially considering the price. Now, the magic square does come with more accessories, and since I plan to do stop motion with these guys, those accessories will be nice, but it’s not like the new ages are bad. The magic square just has more, which is probably where the budget went for it.

It seems like people (including me) are getting jipped on Magic Square Megs not putting out the light-up feature as advertised. I don't see it anywhere. I think between their questionable Seekers, Soundwave's alt-mode being so weak, Laserbeak not being available outside of Soundblaster, AND them not sending what they advertised with Megs it may be time for me to give up on Magic Square... If they ever do a Perceptor and Newage doesn't, I'll get it to complete my "Child's Play" cast but I think I need to be done otherwise....

I can't exactly pick between them. The robot mode chest and arms look on ms looks the best imo, while the newage transformation feels efficient. And it’s proportional. Both are great figures with their own trade offs so I can’t prefer either one over the other. For me I think what makes the decision is if it scales well with certain other legend scale figures

4:23 I do admit complicated transformations are more fun, but mainly when it’s authentic or necessary if that makes sense. For example, bayverse figures like Black Apple Thunder Leader or AT Mackron. It’s complicated for the right reasons, plus it’s the movie designs so the messy transformations are a tad bit more forgivable.

The Newage Megatron looks better and I have the grey and silver variants. I will be buying this Magic Square Megatron as well cause G1 Megatron is my favorite and I can't pass up a decent varation of him. Wish they had done a better job detail his chest though.

Imho MS looks to big, i dont remember Megatron was so big in G1 series, only thing i like is his nicer legs. NA is just way more superior figure tbh! Also MS looks more like toy to me, look waaaay to plastic.

It's pronounced "agga-mem-non". He was an ancient Greek king and warrior who commanded the Greek forces during the Battle of Troy. I prefer cartoon designs, especially with this size of figure, but that MS figure's proportions are just too far off. He looks squashed. The MS with the NA proportions (and abs) would be about perfect.
