Transferring an image onto canvas or wood.

Just a quick tutorial on how I transfer an image to canvas. Hope you enjoy! :)

twinstwos I've had problems with carbon paper etc. When I started doing this method I would use anything else. It's cheap and easy. Glad this made your project easier. 😊

irfanfazila yes it should. Just be careful applying pressure to what you're working on.

After you trace the image with a pen, is it pencil or pen that is on the canvas? Because I would like to erase the markings before I paint so I don't see the tracing once I start to paint?

Slates got to be a tough medium, due to the slates layered structure.

Can you reuse this design again? I’m trying to make 5 canvases using one design. Not sure if this would work over and over? Also, does any of the surrounding graphite get onto the white canvas by pressing on it and tracing?

Cecilia Sherrard Depending on the strength of the paper you could get multiple tracings done. Yes there is a small amount of graphite transfer. It can easily be cleaned up with an eraser for the most part. Good luck! 😊

When leaning on the paper with graphite on the back while tracing does any of the other parts smudge on the wood? Like the fact it’s all covered in graphite does it only transfer what you trace? Thank you!

Emily Brackett Yes you do get some transfer but you can easily erase any unwanted marks.

I tried this method years ago and I wasn't to thrilled with the visible pencil marks after painting over it. In other words you can still see the tracing.

Pamela Diaz I have had that problem with cheap paints. If I use a slightly more expensive paint you shouldn't have that problem.

If I am using an image I printed, do I go over it with a pen or pencil before turning it over and using the soft pencil?

Vicki Lisi you flip your image over and rub pencil all over the back. Then flip your picture back over put it on top of what you want to transfer the image to. Then trace over the image with the pen. As you press down with the pen the image will transfer to the object underneath.

Yes this should work on a canvas shoe. I would suggest stuffing the shoes with newspaper etc to keep the shape of the shoe stable.

If you have a clean slice or no bark in the area it should work. You may need to go over it more than once depending on the surface. Sorry for getting back to you so late.

I'm not sure how the graphite from the pencil would stick to the bakers paper. I'm assuming you're talking about parchment paper. I would suggest trying it on a small piece of paper before starting on a project.
