Absolutely wonderful work, that’s wallpaper engineering! I sense your dad’s influence and mentoring here. It reminds me of my grandfather training me when I was 16….”all about set out my boy”. Nice to celebrate ‘old school’, brilliant work Phil, that’s years of experience and an eye for detail demonstrated here. You’ve made my day. 👏👏👏

As a professional decorator of 48 years ( 4 yrs apprenticeship..city & guilds qualified etc .) I must say you have done an amazing job..ive lost count of the times ive heard other painters say they avoid decorating either they cant or couldn't be arsed..i think unless you pass the knowledge on to the younger generation its going to be a lost cause..well done sir.

Hi Phil, very informative video thank you. My dad was pro P&D for over 50 years, so I learned much from him. I would like to ask why you are using a squeegee and not a brush, is it because you have pasted the walls and not the paper? Thank you Another question, would you say that paste the wall is better than paste the paper, the traditional way? Last question... what is the best paper type / weight to hide undulations in the wall surface? I have had finished plaster walls, not plaster board and I want to hide some of the imperfections. My Dad would probably say use a blown vinyl, but it is a modern house and the blown vinyl style probably would not work! Keep up the good work!

Glad to help lol Put some smooth WallRock up this morning, just used my plumb bob to check the virtual quickly. The wall was so out, the string only touched the wall where I held it against the wall..the weight was a good half inch off the wall!! LoL how do you mark the wall with the string away from the wall 😆

@ProfessionalPainterDecorator I did. I'm a older guy trying to build abit of a business to keep me active into retirement. Phil, A lot of them have passed on now but local decs used to use me to hang hallways and ceilings as they did not have the confidence! With back and shoulders that are now in pain, I realise why.... Good instructive vid. Never have had a laser but may invest in one now. mBob (Albion Decoration) Weston super Mare.

Yes that’s why I for go the lining paper and colour match then GUARDZ the wall before hanging non woven Cole & Son. I’ve also noticed in Canadian homes if the heat pump is blowing on the papered wall the seams open in winter and disappear in summer, just like hardwood flooring gaps in seasonal conditioned spaces. Hence the painting background a body colour.
@ProfessionalPainterDecoratorКүн бұрын
What colour could you use on a paper like this with different colours on the edges and the leopard being metallic?
@craigestey4897 сағат бұрын
@ for the fish one I used the background beige. The smaller fish wasn’t that noticeable, but a couple of the eye level big fish, I used my artist paint pens and filled in the seam line. 😁

The reason I wouldn’t take it on is the chances are most clients do not want pay the money to just prepare for lining paper much less to hang finish paper that cost more per roll than I earn in a day, Years ago had job to paper 2 great big massive rooms in a mini mansion , when I said £1400 she emailed and said that i was over priced,emailed her back and told her the paper your buying is 6k so please find someone that can do it cheaper She then started emailing trying to barter I just stopped replying to her, I’ve been lucky enough to work with and learn from 2 top class paper hangers over the 35 years ,I’m not no where as fast as they was was but I did a decent job if I need to, but guess what anyone mentions paper I say get somebody else not worth my time or effort ,the amount of prep needed just to line a room ready to paper is ridiculous enough,give me a bit of scratch filler roller and a bush and that all concerned with.
@ProfessionalPainterDecoratorКүн бұрын
its true, thankfully we don't have customers like that.. the price is the price, they either want it doing by e or not, hence we get the job and lining is a must. That took about 3 days to line and finish paper 5 and a half days... I'd allowed for all that and charged for it. This staircase took 4 weeks, most of the time two of us on it.
@chrisbeach44Күн бұрын
You’re working for the wrong clients. A decorators’ biggest mistake is under valuing themselves. I’ve got to the stage where customers want me more than I want the job. I’m very fortunate that I can literally pick and choose my jobs and charge handsomely although it’s taken 30+ years to get to this stage.

Non woven opens up because the paste has to much water in it basically it’s been thinned to much
@ProfessionalPainterDecoratorКүн бұрын
Ready mix tub paste though. Not flake packet paste. It's like you don't use flake paste for Vinyl, you use tub paste due to it having low water content.
