r.e. how the bladder effects were pushed past their probable limitations in Darkman - Sam Raimi loves to shoot in a large range of frame-rates, sometimes having his actors or operators perform at half-speed or double-speed, etc, to create uncanny combinations of motion and velocity once the footage is played back at 24 fps.

The Bottin effects in The Howling were great for their time. Sometimes I'd like to go back to some of that rather than all the CGI...

Watching "The Making of Thriller" over and over again as a kid, made me experiment with trying to make bladders.

Joe Blasco was also important in the field of bladder effects in the films he did with Cronenberg.

One of the earliest uses of bladders in special effects that I can think of is the 1953 version of "War of the Worlds", where the Martians in the film were depicted as having pulsating veins.

Dick was the innovator... and mention should be made to his right hand man at the time and now (for many many years) a top make-up master himself → Carl Fullerton

@@BookFence Oh... OK. Thanks for commenting and clarifying. Not that big a deal, but I wondered why all of a sudden Arnold's and my first comment disappeared just as the video countdown started.
