Hello Bert, Sweden here again. Guess what,,, I do just about the same with those things here 🤣 Language of scrapping is universal I guess. Sealed units I just drain the oil and get electric motor price for them, many of the newer ones are aluminium winding so that's why. I do get a lot of them. I also have a steady supply of AC/heater units so I am saving the macaronis for a full year and do something fun with the kids,, so far THIS year I got 3 lbs of macaronis. Stay safe and take care.

Great video really enjoyed that I always take my cut off wheel to the most of them before I break them with a hammer it's a lot easier than hitting them or cut the weld a bit put a line through the weld and it seems to break them open but I learned some new tricks today thank you. 👍👍😀🇨🇦

ive been using my lineman cutters on the windings. works pretty well as you have all that leverage. also can take bites if necessary. trying to save a litter wear on the hands.

I have found that the ones like you were trying to cut the wire on are really easy if you just break the plastic tabs off one end and then all the copper just falls off that end.

Hey Bert! Based on your area, can you give us an idea how much value you're creating by breaking these up into steel and copper, versus just selling them as transformers?

@Vintage_USA_Tech Жыл бұрын
Not all but there were a few transformers that were worth far more then the scrap value he got out of this not to mention that the Iron Cores are worth more then the scrap value. lamination steel, silicon steel, transformer steel, and silicon electrical steel have unique magnetic properties. You could leave the steel in tact and sell it as transformer cores de-bond the varnish and sell them as cores. I would love to buy the Iron cores.

Great job !! Well done Yeah I know exactly what you mean some of them come apart easily and some make you want to pull your hair out ,I made a little clamp vice which I attached to my 14" Ironton steel saw and If they give me trouble I just cut the welds or just two spots through side of the the E Works pretty good, I bought the saw 5 years ago still have the original blade in it ,I Cut 4" Cold rolled many times with it ,Oh a pneumatic air chisel works Fantastic if you have a Hefty Air compressor ,Just subscribed

Cutting welds is good use of angle grinder. I don't agree with using blunt hammers on welds because you saw how he bent sharp pieces of metal at beginning. That can make removing Cu, which may be very tight, harder to slide off.

While you waited this long I would say so. If you need it or wait till I gets to 5. But by that time everything's going to be five times as expensive so it's kind of a catch-22
