Don't know if anyone mentioned this but, the main reason this game exist is because Japan didn't get the original 86 movie right away, so there were some gaps in between season 2 and 3. To remedy this, they made this game to explain some things, like why Optimus Prime is dead and why it's Ultra Magnus. I'd assume that why it wasn't released in America.

The very problem that I noticed with the Famicom, with the fact that you can't change out the controllers, imagine if one of your controllers breaks, then what would you do? You probably had to buy a whole new system, which was even more expensive than buying the controllers themselves. So I'm very sure that in Japan if that happened, they would have to cut the wires, take a different controller and re wire it.

+That Kid With A Camera The difference is that cassettes store only audio, exactly how I am not sure. The cassette player spins the two circular parts, which moves the tape. The player reads the tape as it passes through it, and transfers the data to a speaker. There are no file formats, so the games are stored as audio files which the computer translates to code. CD's, on the other hand, store binary data. A CD basically works like a USB flash drive in terms of how it can be used. Audio CD's contain a special type of file which technically can be stored on any type of digital memory drive (SD Card, USB, DVD, etc.), but they are just most often stored on CD's, for what reason is irrelevant. Therefore, saving a game on a CD is pretty much the same as saving it to a flash drive.

It seemed to me that the exploding optimus head at the beginning of the game, then the pieces gather in Ultra Magnus was supposed to symbolize Prime passing the matrix to him. But still, if this is supposed to be based off the movie, very poorly done, as we can all see.

We got season 3 before Japan did actually. The show is American but animated in Japan (and korea). The toys were 2 different toy lines in Japan, Hasbro bought hte rights to both, combined them into one, had Marvel write the cartoon & comic, then Japan reimported it back. So Japan was always one year behind us. In fact, the movie wasn't even released in Japan until AFTER Season 5. It came out in Japan 3 years after America - in 1989! Between season 2 & 3 instead they had a special episode called "scramble city" that kind of bridges the gap.
