It’s weird watching this in a post-SS86 Hot Rod world. Feels like they rly took lessons almost verbatim from what you have to say: darker sunglasses, backpack gun storage, and leaving the Matrix chamber out entirely, among other alterations.

Huh. As someone who owns MP40 Targetmaster Hot Rod, the transformation of this mold to me is literally the G1 toy with extra steps. Much like the MP Datsuns, all as they should be. The sensor shades, I say be glad they're blue - the MP40 version has them (and the window canopy) straight up clear and very easy to break in a very short time. My advice is to use it once and never again. As for being able to rotate the shoulders so they're positioned like the G1 toy...I completely forgot about that. 😮😮😮😮

Update: I recommend pushing in his side fenders *after* transformation of the shoulders. They won't lock into his chest anymore, but they do sit securely on top of the shoulder/rib flanks, and that actually fixes the upper torso proportions from every 3/4 and front view, including giving his chest some dimension. . I stumbles upon this by accident and I'm dumbfounded at how much this mistransformation improves the figure.

Slight correction on a 7 year old video, because that's how the internet works: Offshoot actually is compatible with this toy's engine block port. It doesn't seem to work here because Vangelus is using the hand-holding grip, rather than the engine block mounting peg.

For a design that's impossible (thanks Floro), I think Takara did a great job. I do agree that the Matrix chamber was unnecessary and probably could have been omitted for more transformation room, but on the other hand, it fits with his movie-accurate accessories.

I dont believe for 1 second mp28 hotrod and mp36 megatron are in scale with each other or the toy line in general mp 10 /52 and mp36 are huge compared to most other "scaled" figures

I absolutely hate the proportions on this thing. It looks like bad Mark Teixeira art from the 1990s (overly long/large arms, scrawny legs, tiny head). Combine that with the paint QC and awkward joints, I have no idea why anyone is excited about this, especially with a possible FansToys iteration on the way. Maybe I'm being especially hard on it, because I'm a huge Hot Rod fan, and I want it to being stunning, not just serviceable.
