Social hierarchy is a very common theme is Optimu's/Megatron's backstory. If I remmeber correctly, IDW started this theme, where Cybertronians were separeted into casts. Megatron was a member of the lowest cast, and he tried to change the system, together with Orion who was also a low ranked bot too. Since them most continuities reuse that element, like Aligned continuity, Transformrs Prime, WFC:Siege, etc Megatron's low cast mining bot origin comes from the IDW comics.

I'm a longtime Transformer fan, i've loved most of the cartoons and comics from the Japanese to the American. I hate the Michael Bay flicks and feel it has damaged the franchises image for the public but I liked Rise of the Beasts and Bumblebee. This movie has no connection to any other continuity but it has 40 years of cartoon and comic book lore stuffed into the movie and it's excellent. I love this movie.

The caste system has been a core theme of the aligned continuity for a while now. It’s the reason Megatron rose up. Orion’s origins are different here. Megatron was a miner.

Easily the best Transformers movie made to date (and that's from a diehard 86' movie fan). It blended some of the origin stories from the 80s series/differing comic runs, but I felt it worked well for the film. I agree that the only issue I had with the movie is it needed maybe 20 more minutes with D-16 to help really convey that shift to Megatron, but all in all it is a minor complaint! Great review!

Yea it is so hard to see Optimus Prime without Peter Cullen. I mean I thought Hugo Weaving as Megatron in the 2007 film was hard to get use to because I love Frank Welker. Diehard longtime fan here. I grew up with Transformers, I have loved most of the cartoons and comic books. Didn't care for the Bay flicks but enjoyed Bumblebee and Rise of the Beasts. I am a huge fan of the lore built up over the past 40 years and a huge nerd about it. Transformers One kind of beats about Transformers the Movie 1986 for me. I love the 86 movie dearly but this one, this one is excellent. I loved it so much. It feels refreshing too after all the Bay garbage.

We saw the early screening of this and it was great! But it was not better than the first live action Transformers movie in my opinion. It is only second to the first then bumblebee third cause the rest were garbage and it is a bit darker than what I originally thought but that was a good thing! Highly recommend.

Everything in the trailer that people didn't like is all Bumblebee's fault as he really is the "excessive comic relief" trope to the point where there's even a meta joke in the movie about how he should shut up because he's too annoying when he talks. But if you can just ignore Bumblebee, the rest of the cast is on point. I think he was just added so that the movie wouldn't be 100% dark and have some levity to it because plot wise he contributed nothing further to the narrative once he gave that mcguffin to orion pax. He just tagged along for the ride to crack more jokes at every opportunity.

Sorry I have to disagree. The first third of the movie was pure cringe. I know they had to showcase Orion Pax's personality but the way they chose to do it. Clichéd. However things improved once they got onto the surface of the planet and it didn't look back from there. So kudos! Even my wife (who hadn't watched a complete Transformers movie before) loved it. Needless to say my 8 year old son was over the moon 😂
