When I saw this in theaters I was on a date with a girl who insisted she loved the transformers movies. The day prior I had gotten a horrible sunburn and for the whole movie she was laying on my shoulder but I didn't have the heart to tell her. I was in excruciating mental and physical pain the whole movie. When the movie was over, she turned to me and said "you're right. these movies are horrible". And we never spoke again.

While that's likely to be true in some form anyway... it was probably marketed that way to entice (more) young girls into the franchise since Transformers was largely more suited to young boys (and men who never grew up). A way to widen to their demographic and customer base beyond just being PG rated

That being said, Megan Fox's character has still been the most interesting and useful female character of the franchise. Despite the way she's shot, she actually does more than Sam ever did and had a way more complex and interesting backstory of stealing cars and turning her own father in to the police. But ya know, we can't look at nice things anymore... but it's totally necessary to get all those super important topless shots of Chris Hemsworth, Henry Cavill, Jason Mamoa... don't forget Ben Afflecks ass, it's integral to the film!

The reason Optimus Prime isn't in these movies is the Goku effect. That's when your main character is the guy who pretty much always wins you have to keep him out of fights to let the bad guys get some wins against the supporting characters and establish them as threatening and create some tension before Optimus or Goku or Superman (in the Justice league movies anyway) turn up and defeat whoever the enemy is.

One of the most underrated things about this movie is this one shot at 4:15 that features a row of soldiers from either World War 1 or World War 2, with a big old Ironhide just lazily photoshopped in like the soldiers can’t even see him, they’re trudging along, he’s just striking up a stoic pose and he clearly has the exact same parts as the version of him that transforms into a modern pickup truck. OH and Optimus Prime standing and striking up a pose right in the middle of a hundreds of years old napoleonic war battle, as the version of himself that turns into a semi-truck. Hundreds of years ago. And he appears to… have a cannon sitting on his shoulders Seriously, not even the prop designers gave a shit about this movie, this is quite possibly one of the worst blockbuster films in existence. In cinema history, this might be the worst one ever.

After that I think they just accepted how screwed up the continuity was and stopped trying to fix it instead just making everything stand alone.

I’ve always understood these movies are horrible, I just enjoy them and they’re dumb fun, but my god the last knight was legitimately the worst one in my opinion, because they basically said fuck you to fans who actually paid attention to the barely existent shred of a continuity they’d barely held together throughout these movies and threw it all out the window. This movie breaks every last bit of continuity and it’s just annoying because even as an avid fan it’s impossible to follow.

Something I found in this movie is how it always felt like there was a scene missing. Like in dreams when you start in the middle, but applied to a movie where characters, tech, establishing shots, nothing that introduces anything exists. That friend of Cade’s says _”I found Optimus”_ when there wasn’t a scene that showed that. It just had Optimus and that guy running through the hill

I remember watching this in the cinema where by the time the 3rd act started and Bumblebee was trying to remind Optimus who he is that I felt the film had dragged on for too long and was genuinely no longer interested in the plot . When we left, my sister suddenly asked us, "Did anyone else get bored as the explosions started?" and a bunch of people (not in our group) suddenly started mumbling their agreement.

He makes a giant blockbuster with big robots fighting end of the world, as well as it being light and having a lot of jokes and famous actors going completely over the top. I love that, and I think people are too harsh on Bay. The TF movies by Bay brought in 4.5 bn dollars. More than all of Snyders DC movies, more than Pirates series. So certainly people went to the theatre no matter what shit they say. I have bought all these movies in 3D and 4K, and let me tell you. These movies looks and sounds AMAZING. shot with 3D cameras, not post converted like most other stuff. These are showdowns of some of the best looking CG live action movies ever made. And it is so infuriating that ppl don’t even bother to mention that, and are cought up in superflous things that aren’t so important. And large scale action/battle sequences is another thing Bay is a master at delivering, DOTM and TLK final hour beats anything Marvel or Dc have brought to the table. Period. And that is why these movies are in fact great. Go watch the editor, Bens praising of Transformers.

I kept seeing them because I kept thinking it can’t be worse than the last one but every time it was. I’m a huge transformers fan and what he’s done with it really annoys me. Yes they look good but the characters are terrible. The dialogue is terrible. The comedy is terrible juvenile and most of the time straight up racist or offensive. The plot is the same every time. This is a civil war between a whole planet of beings and being light and full of jokes only takes away from what really should be serious

@@stethespaniard2 since they go so hard on violence and the aggresively macho tone troughout, I think they feel they have to compensate with adding humour since this is aimed at kids. But most of the humour is really a lot of R-rated stuff anyways so… but if you seriously say you’re a TF fan, I don’t get how you doesn’t like Dark of the moon. That movie is legitemately terrific. One of the best action movies of the decade. That last hour in Chicago. No other director could give you you’re ticket’s worth as much as Bay with that brilliant display of spectacular sequences like the tilting building, Optimus flying and shooting at Driller, last showdown between Optimus/Sentinel/Megatron. C’mon if you say you’re a «fan» I expect you mean you’re a fan of G1 and so on, don’t say TF3 doesn’t bring you some joy. I totally get you disliking TF2, 4 and 5. but 1 and 3 are great TF movies and action movies in general. When Bay is focused and commited like he was with TF3, it proves why he is the best choice for a movie like that.

I saw this in the theatre when I was very overtired. I was slightly irritated by how terrible it was until around the third act where I started cry-laughing at how terrible it was. I couldn't stop for the rest of the movie. They were just falling out of the sky for like 20 minutes in the final fight and it was hysterical.

Bay's problem is he uses his signature style of pretty angles, highly dynamic motion and lighting, and loud colour correction, which is good for action and establishing scope, but he uses it in virtually every shot, for which most of the time they are hugely inappropiate in some way or another, even for simple storytelling, because he's a tone-deaf simpleton. It therefore becomes headache and/or vomit-inducing. TL;DR: The only thing in his toolbox is a hammer.

Anthony Hopkins and Cogman best part of the movie. He seemed to have the time of his life in this movie. Loved how crazy he was, and hearing him cursing, flipping birds at police, taking part in the final battle shooting Megatron then flying through the air in slow-mo😂 Only Michael Bay could do all that. Bet that with any other director with the script he had before Bay started shooting, he would just be a stoic, bland character just being there for the check. In The Last Knight he certainly brought insane amount of energy and joyness I don’t think i’ve ever seen from Hopkins. Also he called Bay a genius.
