@10:30 great minds think alike, I had the same thought on the guns as soon as I got my prime figure too. I noticed that the coloring of the plastic is slightly different, but it's so subtle in my opinion it still works.

There's also a homage in the hands; Hasbro's original super mode Powermaster Optimus Prime had red hands whereas Takara's Super Ginrai had blue hands that could be hidden (Legends Super Ginrai also has this).

The titan master gimmick is awesome. With combiner wars for he gimmick to work you needed five guys. But with this line you get one and you have the gimmick right there

I personally feel like if those Gray/ Slightly tanned parts(Which is most of the body) where to be Silver or white it would look a look a lot nicer, but Hasbro likes to keep the price affordable(most of the time)so I don't mind it.

I'm looking forward to this figure hopefully being dispatched and joining the collection soon, he looks great. I've been hoping for a Powermaster Optimus remake for a long time. Titans Return is looking quite promising and I'm looking forward to my pre-orders arriving, hopefully soon. Blaster is on his way and due to arrive on Tuesday, the rest are still waiting to be in stock.

I think they missed a point not putting some sort of molded laser turret on his chest for when he's in city mode. Do miss Optimus being able to be his own bot while trailer becomes the city, but this does look quite cool. I may have to get this so he can play with Ultra Magnus.

Fantastic review Paul! Your reviews are getting better and better. These last few years especially. I like all the versions of the Larger Optimus Prime figures hasbro has put out so far since Generation One,, and this here is no exception. I WAS looking into ONLY getting the Takara GINRAI version with the g1 cab + more Ginrai/Powermaster like details. But this here, is still a substantial looking bot. Really happy I preordered this guy! I can finally have a great CHUG Optimus figure. And the paint looks fine to me, I don't know why people are unhappy about it. Good review Optibotimus. And great job Hasbro!

this figure has potential. what messes up this figure is that silver chest thingy, which looks horrible and that piece that sticks out past the hands. im i the only one to think about this but if you take off that chest thing and cut off that piece next to the hands. the only thing is that the hand piece will be an additional piece you add on for the truck mode. when you take off that chest thing, the figure looks much better, i even like the big grill.

Hey Optibotimus, I know that I was supposed to notify you about this sooner, but did you know that Takara made their own Powermaster Optimus Prime reusing Hasbro's mold calling it "LG-35 Super Ginrai", which would combine with the Godbomber figure they made to form God Ginrai? That Super Ginrai figure from the Japanese Legends line is probably (I'm sure people will disagree) a lot better than the American version, because of its G1 look and its ability to combine with Godbomber.

Thransformers is the only toy line where I feel gimmicks like mini bots and other things like that are absolutely welcome. My only complaint would have to be the hollowness of the figure. I remember when big classes had more solid pieces and had a weight to them. I feel that these cant take a beating like the old one could. Overall nice figure and review.

Taken as a whole I think he turned out really good. I like that truck cab looks similar to Utra Magnus' cab. Personally, I've never liked base modes, they always just look like the robot modes splayed and mistransformed.....to each his out I guess.

Great comparison section, nice to see what a neat homage this is to the original; and thankfully it's not a hot mess like the original. Here's hoping the Legends release will mirror the upgrades of the G1 toy, holding out for it.

I'm aware of the fiction, thanks. As for the Legends version, it's still the same base mold & we don't really know how extensive the changes will be. I only care for the superior aesthetic, whether it's supposed to represent Ginrai or Optimus, matters not to me.

I got a odd request how would you connect him to Fortress Maximus. I have all 3, Blaster's ramp is almost vertical but i had to reconfigure prime's base mode to make it even connect and even then it pops out. I was kinda excited about the inner connecting base modes but it was a no go for the base mode combining in said mode. I had to put the arms up and move the legs about abit to make it work and also had to move the black guns. Also if you use same guns you gave to magnus you can slot both into the back of prme sorta as a backpack holder for the guns they fit inbetween the weels of the tractor part of the truck but in robot mode.

I can decide if I want these retoolings... I have Metroplex and Ultramagnus, so getting Fort Max and PM Prime doesn't feel worth it enough. Especially since I have a Brave Maximus, too.

the thing about the powermasters was that they had the engines which unlocked the mechanism of transformation. That was a cool idea. But would that be possible if the transformations today are more complex?

They kinda could, they have done it a couple years ago with some figures having a gimmick where mid transformation you would hit a button or something and it would automorph or whatever people called it (been so long, forgot the name) then you could continue transforming or that would be it

Great review. Both Prime and Magnus look great in botmode but the truckmodes are not so great. They are too small compared to a deluxe size car. The trailers i don't mind, but the cab itself does bug me, it's a bit too deformed for my taste. Prime is less annoying IMHO.

The Headmaster gimmick can be ignored in this figure. You just have to leave the head attached and it will fit inside the cab and transform normaly.
