the great irony being in the rebirth saga from the g1 cartoon galvatron was so disgusted by the idea of targetmasters and headmaster with organics sharing their bodies he nearly killed them all

Once again, almost perfect if not for the headmaster gimmick ruining the head. Looks weird having a mask around his face and limited neck articulation. They shouldn't have tried to force the gimmick on to characters whose heads were not designed for it. Galvatron was disgusted by the idea of organic beings merged with Transformers so doesn't suit his character to become a headmaster himself.

Titanmasters aren't explicitly organic, and in this particular case the robot mode for Galvatron head when detached is clearly designed to look like Megatron which is nifty allusion to the original origins of the character as an upgraded Megatron. Could he have been better without the gimmick? Probably, and the limited articulation for Galvatron's head kind of sucks, but with a little bit of paint added to the base mold the crown piece isn't really needed. Either way though I think this is the best version of the character we've gotten since Energon back in 2005.

Emeral Bookwise I don't need allusions to his G1 origins, especially as they seem to want to distance this from G1 Headmasters so they need to make their mind up. I'd rather just a decent Galvatron head. I agree it's the best Galvatron we've had from Hasbro, but that's what makes it all the more frustrating they get so close to perfection then screw it up.

I agree it's the best, but without the gimmick, and just putting a helmet like Sixshot would have made it better. It really seems like a cheap thing that didn't need to happen. Shouldn't need to paint your figure. Shouldn't need to 'fix' it.

good looking robot mode, the face plate flip gimmick kills the figure for me! maybe if it was like a helmet that fit over the head or even magent and you just connect it to the head? to bad because I was thinking of picking this toy up

Excellent review Paul! I;m a Galvatron fanboy and I'm thrilled that we are getting a space cannon update. I'm actually a bit surprised that you had a more tempered reaction about the head/mask. Peaugh seemed very down about it and seemed like it was a fatal flaw. Besides the recessed look and minimal head rotation, my other complaint is that the back of the head is grey. It should have been purple to sell the illusion of it being a complete Galvatron head. While I dont love the space jet mode, I'm glad it didnt severely harm the robot/cannon modes. Now one thing remains: We need a voyager Rodimus Prime, Hasbro!

Well he also did it wrong initially LOL. That can ruin enjoyment of something. I have tried for a while now, to be more level headed and approach my reviews with some perspective in them. The fact that this is a toy. It's made by a main toy company meant for mass retail. It's meant for play value. We as adult collectors expect more but really, that's a silly thing to do when WE aren't their primary demographic.

Saw this at the smallest local Wal-mart in our area Saturday night. 100% don't regret my purchase. Probably the favorite Transformer I've bought in the modern age (since G1). Albeit I've never bought the Masterpiece versions due to cost (Megatron is tempting). But I'm a complete scale freak and this is working decently with my other Voyager size scale I'm working on. I completely put my Leader classes in totes and only display voyager size. Galvy here is a tad bigger than movie class Voyager figures, but still, not totally awful. He's maybe half an inch bigger than movie Shockwave. This video review was great and I'm glad someone else likes him as well. I'm thinking of doing a wash on him to bring out his details. Wish the face had a tad more detail but at least wash will bring out his mouth, etc.. Truly love this figure.

The little 'seat' on the cannon is for figure play with a base. They use the same sized Mtec ports, so Galvatron's gun can fit on a 'base' set as a gun mount or something. *shrugs*

I see a lot of care and attention with similar amount of compromises done to this figure. The ankle tilt and rear leg covers are not necessary for me, but it's there, and it improves the look of the figure standing. Hasbro still insistent on using big ratchet and compromise the range of the leg of the space cannon mode, funny, because IIRC with Combiner Wars Optimus Prime and Onslaught, they released a revised version with smaller ratchet allowing for better posability. Still though, best retail representation of Galvatron to date. I was that close to purchase the Henkei 3 pack but considering the size difference, I sleep easy with my decision.

You know, I have an idea who this guy might be retooled as... Straxus. This Galvatron's jet mode is actually quite similar to the weird tank thing Straxus became in the G1 comics... And that hollow on the cannon? Basically all the TR figures have a weapon which can be utilised as a turret that you can attach to the various bases, so you can sit a Titan Master in that little cockpit and plug it into Soundwave's (for example) base mode.

I really like this figure and hope to be able to get it here in the Netherlands. Perhaps a modification to paint Nucleon's arms and legs purple might make the head look better. I guess the cannon will attach to any Decepticon bases like Soundwave, Trypticon or Scorponok when they come out.

True. I thought it looked bad on camera but in hand it doesn't really bother me that much. I bought some silver and purple sharpies to make the face of Nucleon blend in better with the mask, and it looks good now.

This figure is great! Just like you said I don't care for the space jet mode. Shapeways has a helm and cannon adaptor which is a slight shade different purple but a great substitute to the springloaded face mask.

This is definitely one of the better releases from the current TF line. I actually like the idea behind the headmasters they're releasing now, I just wish they would have released more of them at the Voyager size with the increased quality and articulation seen here. Hard Head especially, but honestly the same could be said of all the deluxe head masters.

My only real problem with the line is most of it are characters being Headmasters that were never Headmasters. The asthenic of most look really good, except Astrotrain's train mode. So I'll try to pick up a lot of these regardless.

are you going to see how well the Nucleon head fits with the Skullsmasher body...and the Infinitus head fits with the Mindwipe body (when it comes out)? that way they can make a Titans Return two pack based on the initial Beast Wars two pack of Optimus Primal (bat) and Megatron (croc)

finally a galvatron that has a gun mode after all the megatrons that are tanks. the figure looks great in gun mode and robot mode and yes the ship mode is useless since most non flying vehicle mode bots flew anyway. the only thing that puts me off is the head. why does it have to be a spring loaded faceplate why. couldnt they just do what they did with optimus and have the real head fit over smh. still getting it because galvatron. great review and point out the issue with the treds

Finally someone who likes the new Galvetron! So many haters. I had a quality control issue in which my negate on Titan barely stays on,. I really have to work on the inner workings to make it stay. And I can't use any other Titan heads. None the less I LOVE HIM!

I think the jet mode was supposed to be a homage to Energon Megatron who, design-wise, was a homage to G1 Galvatron.

Funny thing is, I originally wrote off the jet mode as being so unnecessary that I never even really bothered to take a close look, or even transform mine into it. Then I watched this video and suddenly realized that Galavaton isn't just and random generic space fighter, he's a cyertronian tetra-jet just like what Starscream and the seekers originally all transformed into. It's still kind of a weird mode for Galavatron specifically, but that realization still made the figure about twice as cool regardless.

The only bad things about him are the cockpit and the head crest. First one you can fix quite easily by taking out the pin connecting it to galv's back. As for the second one Hasbro could've done a better job like in the Optimus case for example.

man i have to say that hasbro did good on this galvatron figure, is a great reprensentation. granted it had some flaws like the titan master gimmick as well forcing a third mode that is not even needed, sometimes i want hasbro to just hold on overdoing the gimmickry and just do a well done figure overall. but as some say this is aim for the kids than anyone else(although a bit concen that a lot of kids will loose the titan master head with ease). still at the end of everything this is a nice looking galvatron and i can't wait to get the figure.

As it turns out, galvatron actually has another facemask tooling that exists, which is much more idw apearance wise. shame they didnt use it, from what i could see on the galvatron prototype test shots, it looks like it goes over his face better.

I like this but am also sad that he now doesn't scale to Cyclonus and Scourge like he did in the G1 cartoon (him being shorter then both) which is the only reason why I still am keeping my Deluxe. (This guy will be holding a spot with my Heralds of Unicron.)

Space cannon more: giant kibble under the cannon and the body. I can't belive nobody else is bothered by this. The G1 toy was more streamlined 30 years ago! Jet mode is alright, but the character itself doesn't had it, so it's redundant. Robot mode head is a joke, the arms are hollow, the wrists doesn't swivel, but they have ratchet joints for no reason, and it has a gigantic backpack. The only thing that's really neat in that mode are the flaps that hide the hollowness of his legs, but those aren't incorporated into any of his other modes, so... Also Nucleon has 0 paint on him, only the eyes and the Megatron-head eyes are painted. Okay, I get it that the whole idea makes it "so great", but he is like a recent movie: Had an idea behind it, but they screwed it up anyway. For the fifth of his current price, I would maybe buy him, but for this price, never. He doesn't worth it at all.

The reason the Titan Masters are different is cause it's only wave 1 I've seen stock photos there are repaints in wave 2 otherwise i am always hunting for this figure

The worst, and only, flaw of this figure is the helmet. It lacks head articulation, and the treads could be both black and with, at least, one mini-wheel by each tread. But despite this, Titans Return Galvatron is a great figure. P.S: his laser cannon mode is badass.

honestly i dont see a reason that this wasnt a leader size. the mold was very obviously meant for galvatron unlike some of the molds in titans return like sentinal and astrotrain. and with the realease of titans return megatron it would have been nice to get a leader size galvatron to go with the leader size power master prime

I'm happy to see an "official" true Galvatron figure but Mania King is the most perfect version of Galvatron yet; this is a distant second. Hated the headmaster nonsense as a kid...still hate it because there's no reason for it and makes the head horrible looking. OH give me a freakin break. I didn't say i loved the mask did i? It's the weakest part about this figure. But i'm also being level headed. I'm reviewing things fair and balanced and looking at the perspective of things. These are TOYS. Made by a toy company who's main demographic are KIDS. While they recognize that adults collect these, we are not their main buying audience. Not by a long shot. I am a reviewer. My job is to be fair and balanced and look at all angles for this. As i said in this video, collectors will probably want the takara version. But this isn't it. And wrongfully hating something just because it isn't what i personally want isn't very objective.

Hmm, if they had made Nucleon the full Galvatron head instead of going with the weird face-mask gimmick, this figure would be 100% better. Sure it's a good representation and it's certainly better than most recent Galvatron toys (looking at you Universe Galvatron), but it's definitely hindered overall by that feature in my opinion.

I don't get why Takara keeps making Galvatron lavender. Looking at every image I can of Galvatron in the '86 movie and Season 3, he's closer to the darker purple Hasbro keeps using. The unused first animation model was lavender, but that's it. All other appearances have been a darker purple.
