Katie, Have you tried aphid traps? Easy way to make one is get YELLOW solo drinking cups and put a thin layer of Vaseline (or similar store brand) on them. The color attracts the bugs and they stick and die. Inexpensive and easy to make. Works on several types of insects, including aphids, white flies, fungus gnats, etc...

Never tried that but it sounds great. Thanks, you for telling me I am going to pick some up this afternoon.

Your videos provide a great overview of the work involved in running hydroponics, rather than a tour and weight of results, very informative. The old english for an incline railway is a Funicular, the term is still used all over Europe as well

In my thirty years of hoop-house production un -polinated flowers still produce little fruit which I sell at a premium [ seedless tomatoes]. Your peppers are beautiful, aphids suck, had them on my muir this winter...

The tomato I plant is Rebelski. If it is not pollinated it will not set fruit. In your hoop house maybe, you have enough air circulation to pollinate. In my high tunnel the strawberries are wind pollinated! Thanks for the compliment on my peppers. Aphids are the worst lol.

Great work! Can you talk a lot about the irrigation schedule you are using for these tomatoes plants? When do you start and end? For how many minutes you run for each cycle?

I noticed something last year and I wanted to check to see if you have seen similar observations. I found that when my single stem tomatoes get taller, fruit production starts to suffer. I still get good leaves, but the trusses quit setting. But, if I lower the stems like you tend to do, production seems to pick back up shortly afterwards. I know it sounds weird, but I think it may be that the plant's ability to push nutrients and water to greater heights may be tied to gravity stress especially when lots of fruit have set lower on the plant. Tomato doesn't naturally grow vertically like we've pushed them. They evolved across the ground setting roots as they sprawled. Well, those are my thoughts and it could be something else. What's your opinion or experience as a vertical grower?

Interesting observation, I have never noticed that in my plants. The tallest the tomato plants in my greenhouse get is 7 feet, with the balance of the stem on the ground. I will ask Nate from Cropking about it and let you know.

I wanted to ask you about your tomato leaves having lighter-colored splotches. I get that as well and it seems to come out of nowhere. I'm pretty sure it's some sort of nutrient deficiency related to the plant taking it up the nutrients properly. My hydro solution is always spot on. I figure you test quite a bit more and have the solution which is why I ask. Thanks again.

I noticed that also, not sure what is causing the yellowing. Next time that Nate from Cropking stops by I will asked him. I will let you know what he says!

Do you do constant watering/feeding of your tomato plants? Or do you run it for a certain period of time several times a day? Thanks.

I water them for 3 minutes and off 35 minutes all day (only when its light) but remember I am pushing the nutrient's through a 1.5 GPH emitter.

Have you tried fine dust to get rid of aphids? Something like fine talc might work. We have a dry silica dust called dryicide that works by abrading the coats of the insects so they dry out and die. Dry fine perlite would do the same trick, it makes me cough and splutter. Might be worth a go? Wear a mask if using. I realise you would not use pesticides.

Yes, no pesticide. I do have some silica. I think I'll try that id the soap didn't get them. Thanks for the suggestions!
