My question would be, who's paying for labour and materials to make a steel kit. Edit wouldn't touch the doors
@SIMONHOLFORD5 ай бұрын
Stick with the fibreglass. Cheaper to replace when he stacks it lol. Serious question though. With overfender type kits won't this trap moisture and rust out the panel underneath which seems counter productive after spending so much time and money on a restoration.

@@ToreDL87 What an odd comment. So because others didn't have the cash available that MA has from his YT channel they are at fault somehow? And what 'rights' does anyone have if they don't own the car. Yes we all know MA likes to modify cars (and I am a subscriber) and fair play to him but THIS car has been rebuilt to standard specification. What we see here is a perfect example of a factory 635 bodyshell. So the judgment has to be on the car as it is now not what it was months ago.

I think it's ridiculous, the way this project evolves. First putting in all that effort to get the car in perfect original condition and then putting a vulgair body kit on it, something that 19-year-old boys get a kick out of because they want to drive a so-called 'thick' car... I would never do this as a professional, in fact I would be ashamed if I had to make this. I would refuse to do it if you have any honor.

Being that YCR does extremely good fabrication work, you have Mat's approval to challenge yourselves and it will definitely make the BMW unique (and not rely on a prefab kit) ..... I vote you go ahead and do the aero out of steel. As for the door aero, it would help to see a mock up dome in card board, or whatever you choose, to get the full visual on it. Max respect to YCR! Real craftsmanship on show here. Beautiful result. Message To Matt Armstrong: please, no body kit. The car would look like a strange Frankenstinien combo of a BMW e30 M3 and a BMW 850. The original body design is timeless. Sure, resto mod the car. Perhaps a V12 from an e38 7 series? Uprated suspension etc etc. Sometimes less is more. The work YCR have put into the body is simply awesome. This restoration does not deserve to be ruined by a body kit. I don't care if its in glass fiber steel or even gold. It will still ruin it. I was lucky enough to have two of these cars back in the day. Someone has to speak up for them!
