Clint - you may also want to try the new Forekaster up front with the Rekon out back. Very good DC combo

That's what's on my Spur. I prefer the new Forecaster up front over the Disector.

Good luck with the rekon in pisgah
@paulthompson63573 ай бұрын
Agreed. Pisgah is gnarly. Roots and rocks everywhere. It gets even more challenging in the wet. The Rekon might struggle.

If you haven’t tried them…I’ve been a huge fan of ground controls front and rear in grid casing. Currently GC front and Fast Trak rear. I ride everything in Pisgah and they roll and hook up great. The jury is kinda still out on the fast trak but haven’t had any issues with it. Might be a neat experiment for you.

Those dhr's feel like anchors on climbs, buy they are stable and sweet going down hill.

I switch my regular 2.4 tire wheel set on. My trail bike for 27.5+ 3.0 tire wheel set. Makes it a psuedo fat bike. Great for when there is a few inches of snow on the trail.

Nice wheel and tire set up for trail riding. Enjoy your trip and riding in NC! I live in Asheville. Going to rent a Transition Spur for a few days at the end of this week from The Hub to check out how it rides. Have been wanting to try one out.

I like the forekaster v2 out back woth the dissector. It's a bit of a trade off, but I find it provides better all-around cornering and wet weather performance, but it maybe doesn't brake as well in a straight line in hard pack.

You need to try the new Albert radial MTB tire from Schwalbe.

I absolutely hate the 2.4 Dissector as a front tire. It was designed to be a fast rolling rear tire and that is where it performs best. I've tried it. It rolls fast. However there is a big gap between where the center knobs end and where the side knobs begin to bite. I always found myself pinballing all over the trail. My favorite trail tire combo is the 2.4 Rekon rear and 2.6 Rekon front on an i30mm rim. The 2.6 Rekon out-performs the 2.4 Dissector in every way. It weighs about the same but it corners better, rolls faster, while providing the same braking traction. The 2.6 Rekon is highly consistent no matter how you lean it. If you lean the 2.4 Dissector into the no grip zone, you will be careening all over the trail. The best place for a 2.4 Dissector is as a rear tire paired with a 2.5 Minion DHF or Assegai. The 2.4 Dissector was never intended to be a front tire. It corners poorly.

Thanks for sharing. I’ve been thinking of swapping the dissector on my Spur to a rekon 2.4 so same tire front and back, but I might consider the 2.6
@adamj22813 ай бұрын
I agree, the dissector seemed to be gripping or not, with no in between. I went with the Specialized Ground Control T7 (Front)/T5 (rear) and love it on dry trails (basically all I ride). Probably a bit more cross country than what he was going for here, but.....I didn't love the Dissector/Rekon factory setup.
@hammertime77403 ай бұрын
Yep, people love that tire on the rear. Maybe the spur corners differently? People say it rides like it's on rails.
@Jacob991743 ай бұрын
I second this, exactly my experience with Dissector on front. The mid transition knob section is a no-man’s land Rekons have performed good for me as well, sometimes I put something lighter on rear like Ardent Race

How does the ohlins stack up against fox 34 grip 2? Is it worth benching a new grip 2 and shelling out the $$. I want a stiffer for but without going to a 36 stanchion. I do a lot of climbing and down hill rocky trails, so weight is important to me Thanks 🤙🏻
@ClintGibbs3 ай бұрын
Honestly, I would have to ride them back to back on the same bike to really tell you the differences. The main thing is that the Ohlins will be more supportive and won’t dive as much when braking and cornering.

@davehoover88533 ай бұрын
I pulled my heavy DT Swiss alloy wheels and DHF tires of my Pivot Switchblade and swapped in Nobl XC carbon wheels, Hope hubs and Forecaster tires. That shaves a couple of pounds of rotational weight off and the bike is much livelier now. However I am always over biked on the XC rides in the Tetons. Thinking about the Spur or Yeti SB 120. Have you ridden the SB 120? Thoughts if you have?
