Congratulations guys on your anniversary, I'm blown away every time I see you make difficult jobs look easy... oh and Shane, buck up mate, you don't see Julie making rookie mistakes and cutting herself... lol. AND she patched you up! I'll say it again, every man should have a 'Julie'. Must mention the youngsters helping too with the cooking and bus conversion, well done. Safe travels.

I was wondering how you were going to connect the raised roof to the front. I'm enjoying watching the process of converting the bus - it is very interesting! So nice to see your entire family working together - including Erwin bringing you both nice cold drinks. I know it must be pretty warm there because it was 80 degrees here today in south Alabama. Congratulations on your anniversary! Awesome!

Hello bus life!!! Do you have any extra tips or videos explaining the transition and roof raise process. Any more detail or instruction? I would love to see more. Also I think you said you used 22 gauge for the transition ? Have you noticed any dents or warping with the gauge of sheet metal you decided to use. Did you use butyl tape and lap all the panels on the side walls and the transition ? Did you keep the tech screw ( self tapping ) screw in . What size rivets?

@TranscendExistence11116 жыл бұрын
Looks good.... you might want to think about adding some more pieces of heavy gauge square steel tubing in your transition along with a couple of them set at a diagonal. It'll help tremendously with the lateral movement that the different height roof skins will endure through body flex. My transition video shows a good example of what I'm describing. Keep up the good work guys!

The Bus Life why do you raise the roof?
@TranscendExistence11116 жыл бұрын
To provide overhead clearance and for the extra "roomy" feel it provides. Bus ceilings are pretty short most the time, and by the time you insulate and build up the floor, you lose valuable inches.
@qheffner70833 жыл бұрын
Is 20gauge pretty standard for bus sheet metal? I’m considering strongly doing a roof raise on my bus.

Are you going to cover the transition piece with some kind of rubber coating or rubber membrane to keep the water out ?
@TheBusLifeShow6 жыл бұрын
Each piece of metal is joined together with butyl tape and I plan on sealing all the seams with weather sealant.
@divhandyman6 жыл бұрын
Shane just a suggestion I used to fix lots of water leaks years ago in cars working at a dealership, metal does funny things when it heats and contracts, especially hot metal and cold rain hitting it can present very small opening for water travel. I was thinking maybe for the added protection you could use some automotive seam sealer especially right around the new angle you just put in?
@TheBusLifeShow6 жыл бұрын
Each piece of metal is joined together with butyl tape and I plan on sealing all the seams with weather sealant. Think that will work or do I need to do more?
@divhandyman6 жыл бұрын
I think the seams should be good, If could get automotive seam sealer or if you know a good sealer that adheres well to metal and possible paintable. I just would use silicon sealer it doesn't seal well.
@TheBusLifeShow6 жыл бұрын
I had someone suggest using a product called quad.
@divhandyman6 жыл бұрын
Quad i believe is sold at home depot. Its very sticky and really stinks, but it cures well in humidity, And it is paintable, most window and door installers use it because its lasts a long time and and bonds well to metal, it also stays flexible.Ive used it a lot, i think that might be a good option.
@TheBusLifeShow6 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much! We will get some.😊

not to be rude or anything, just wondering....why do you lift the roof?
@TheBusLifeShow6 жыл бұрын
The original bus had only a 6’ roof on it. When you raise the roof it makes it feel so much bigger. We also needed the hight so we could do triple bunks in the bunk room...😉
@Ccf1825 жыл бұрын
This really should have been welded

Every bit of the metal paneling of the bus from the factory was not welded. It was all screwed. I just matched what the factory did. So far, it is working great.
