Stress, adrenaline, fear, anger all create the tunnel vision factor in combat, especially in your first few contacts. It probably does the same in competition. Shooters need to learn to move trough that. Research shows that the practical training troops do prior to deployment, actually simulating a patrol, and contact procedures can help you actually perform them. "Going through any simple series of motions causes the neurons in your brain that control that movement to fire in a particular sequence. The more often you repeat a physical sequence, the more "automatic" the sequence becomes." Thank you, for the vid.

True enough. Literature indicates stress inoculation training can help folks in the situations you’re talking about. I’ve found that in novel stress situations my shooting ability degrades about 15-20%. Most of my training is along the lines discussed in the video, looking to make base abilities better than they need to be so I can compromise 15-20% and still get the job done. As a very smart fellow competitor once said to me, crap happens, you gotta be 10% better than what it takes to win.
