What’s up guys. In today’s video I’d like to discuss some of the different paths in Reverend Insanity, and speculate which cultivation path is best.
According to the Reverend Insanity Wiki: A path is a part or an aspect of the Great Dao which was painstakingly explored by Gu Masters walking down an unknown and oftentimes perilous path which is later over generations changed and refined. To be able to be called a path it has to have a clear 'direction' like an element (fire), a prospect of reality (time) or life (blood), or a specific effect (transformation). Furthermore, the path needs to cover the basic aspects like attack, defense, healing, movement, storage, and investigation
The five most popular paths are the five elements in traditional Chinese Feng Shui, metal, wood, water, fire, and earth.
In addition to these, there are some dying paths that are still relatively common, but acknowledged as falling out of favor due to various limitations such as scarce materials for refinement, expensive development, or technical flaws in the later stages of cultivation (Think conflicting dao marks in regards to transformation path).
Now as to which is the best, path, it’s probably Heaven Path due to it’s all encompassing ability of bridging the gap between all other paths, but that’s not exactly a satisfying answer either as no one STARTS at heaven path. Even if you wanted to eventually reach rank 9 yourself and cultivate heaven path, you would need to pick an actual path first and foremost to reach a level that would enable you to ascend to an immortal and start acquiring heaven path dao marks.
So, with the assumption that you transmigrated into the Gu World and have background knowledge of the existing paths and their strengths and weaknesses, I’d like to cover which is the best path to cultivate for various goals you’d like to accomplish.

I’ve seen this thread on the subreddit asking which path would you, the reader, cultivate, and most of the answers are thinking a little too impractically.
So let’s settle one thing first: if you were to transmigrate, there’s a chance you wouldn’t even be born into a Gu Master sect. It’s possible plenty of past transmigrators were transferred into a mortal family and died as mortals, so in that case if you REALLY wanted to become a gu master, you’d have to travel the world looking for an inheritance as a traveling merchant or something. That’s quite a risk on it’s own, and realistically, if you had the guts to search for fortuitous encounters in the real world, you would already be doing so, as opportunity to rise up in the world does exist if you’re brave enough and have the energy to be constantly chasing after it. So unless you’re already pursuing similarly risky pursuits in this life, chances are, you wouldn’t be doing that in your next.
With that out of the way, again, even if you were born into a Gu Master sect or a northern plains tribe, you’d most likely not have many options in choosing your vital gu, as the Gu Master economy is pretty stale between most sects not having the funds to use treasure yellow heaven, and the existing competition between sects that are in close proximity to each other.
That isn’t to say that you can’t choose your path, but if you’re already thinking that you’re going to cultivate, I don’t know, Dark path, you may be out of luck if that isn’t widely studied in your village.

It would probably be an offshoot of Rule Path or Information Path, one that strengthens or weakens Dao Marks based on the user's intent. Could used to cripple a Gu Immortal by devouring their dao marks directly, or simply break an alliance agreement.

@@ContentSavant That's pretty much Lady Poison Scorpion (who we still haven't formally met yet). She had a fortuitous encounter and obtained Dream Travel Gu. She switched it to her vital gu to change to dream path and has been in secluded cultivation in Poison Grassland ever since. The only downside is she was already an immortal by the time she entered dream path cultivation, but on the upside she's literally top 5 or even top 3 in dream path as far as we know from the memories of Fang Yuan's previous 500 years of life.

If I had a choice of Path I would definitely go with a combination of Transformation Path and Enslavement Path. Transformation Path would be the primary one. It's known that Transformation Path is one of the easiest Paths to learn and therefore it's one of the most populous. With Transformation Path you can get your Gu from wild beasts or use materials of those beasts to develop your skills. Transformation is a versatile Path that can adapt to a variety of situations. But it's also one in which the user is strengthened physically for both offense and defense. I'm ver fond of Transformation, but my favorite Path is Enslavement. Crowd Control is the defining characteristic of Enslavement Path. It is the Path that allows the few to fight the many in somewhat equal terms. It has tremendous potential, but unfortunately it has just as many drawbacks. As far as the need of resources, Enslavement Path is probably only second to Refinement Path. Controlling and maintaining a horde of creatures is draining to the wealth of the cultivator. Enslavement Path inheritances are also not as commonly shared as those of other paths. Lastly Enslavement Path is known to be weak to close combat. Although that's where the synergy of these to Paths comes into play. Enslavement is strong against many, but weak up close. Transformation is strong up close and it's versatile to a point, but it exposes weakness when trying change forms during combat. If one had a horde of creatures and transformed into one of said creatures, then they could diminish the weaknesses. In the form of the creature close combat is not an issue. Hidden amongst many one can adapt to changes in the battlefield much more subtlety than before. Of course cultivating two paths is never easy, but this is one of the few paths that have been shown to have an example of dual cultivation in the novel. An Immortal that belonged to the Heavenly Court was known to cultivate these two path simultaneously.

That makes perfect sense. If you have the backing and resources to dual cultivate transformation and enslavement, the two can cover eachother's weaknesses very easily, and without too much interference from the dao marks of each path.

@@ContentSavant Ay, if we keep our memories from this world, FOOD PATH, PICK FOOD PATH, you can quite literally (by the way mortals have dao marks, just very small amounts), use the dao marks in you to eat the dao marks of the world, So, while Food Path is rare as a main cultivation path, there are so many mortal level food path beasts, obviously, so just keep eating Food Path beasts, get stronger and stronger food path methods, totems, nobody as a mortal, and I mean nobody, would have as much knowledge as we do about this verse, especially cause we will adapt and gain more knowledge into it, heaven's will also can't mess with ours memories because we don't have or use spring autumn cicada, and if fate is already destroyed, we can just fully choose our own fate, if we didn't, we are half otherworldly demons, we know otherworldly demon luck is at least pretty good usually, also, you can get Thieving Heaven demon venerable inheritances, helping us even more, and 100% I am becoming an immortal, I would rather suffer for eternal life then life an unrefreshing life in the Gu world, purposefully staying as a mortal, likely I'd die in the tribulation, but hey, I will try my best.

@@ContentSavant Best paths overall (For us at least since we aren't super fucking talented): Dream Path (we know way more about dream path then anybody here, and this is one of the paths that if you get something with it, everyone will want to recruit you, and you can just keep progressing more and more, gaining actual attainment with your knowledge in dream path, yes you will suffer, but eventually you will adapt, and it's just pain, as long as you soul cultivate you should be fine, plus we have knowledge of soul cultivation), Enslavement, Soul (As said before), Theft, Food, Refinement, Information, and if you actually CAN cultivate these paths, Human and Heaven.

I would likely start off with strength path, as MANY of the gains in strength you get from strength path appear to be permanent, so even if i switch paths later on, my cultivation up until that point won't be wasted completely, and irregardless of aptitude or primal essence I will be able to fight and survive. Next, I would collect as many wisdom and refinement path gu worms as possible. Although they can be expensive, if i spend much of my life looking for them and refining them, I'm bound to get a few. Finally, I will use my attainment in wisdom path and refinement path in order to hopefully create a new path of my own, more suited to my personal style of cultivation. I have 2 ideas in mind. The first is a sort of 'self refinement' path, which will focus in improving all aspects of an individual, permenantly allowing for oneself to continuously improve your abilities, even if you lose all your gu worms and are out of primal essence. It will likely use many strength path, and a few wisdom and soul path gu worms as a basis to refine self refinement path gu worms, as each if these paths have some gu that provide simular permanent improvements to what we are looking for in self refinement path. The second idea I have is of a 'transcendence' path. It will forcus on changing the way in which you cultivate and gain strength rather than a particular field in which you gain strength. The idea is like this: if you can only have 1 skill in the world what's the best one to pick? Surely it's the skill to learn other skills, right? Transcendence path will follow a simular philosophy in focusing on improving your ability to improve. It will likely act as a sort of nerfed precursor to heaven path, and will probably need to be cultivated along side wisdom path, since your trying to deduce concepts that transcend the traditional way of cultivating. Of these 2 potential ideas I came up with, the transcendence path will likely be much harder to develop and much more expensive to cultivate, assuming it's even possible. If it IS possible it would have to wait till i (hopefully) become a gu immortal. Self refinement path on the other hand, I have little doubt that it would be possible, since many other paths already have simular effects to what I'm looking for with this one. Worst case scenario, it becomes an off shoot of strength, soul or wisdom path. Best case scenario, it becomes a clear path of its own that can raise your own abilities and allow for you to fight without gu worms and gain abilities that you cannot easily loose. This has many advantages, like: -Avoiding the greed of other gu masters looking for valuable gu. - Gaining defensive measures against many paths including soul path, which many mortals with weak soul cultivation had a hard time dealing with. -Becoming more generally versatile and self-reliant. -Not having to worry about primal essence expenditure in a battle. -the greatest advantage of this path: your gains are always permanent and build on one another, allowing for continuous improvement, even if your cultivation rank itself stagnates. This path will likely NOT be TOO difficult to cultivate, with many of its gu worms being easily refined from or even borrowed from closely related paths. Although being a new path it would be a bit difficult having to refine most of your own gu and coming up with new gu reciepes yourself, but since I started off with strength path and later gathered wisdom path gu, I won't be completely defenseless OR helpless while I slowly build the foundations of my new path. This is what I'd attempt to do if I transmigrated and had to opertunity to cultivate.

Great video! Gonna say Wisdom path if I'm lucky enough to inherit, otherwise transformation path or metal path as you said? I think refinement path is a good choice to be kept alive, but I think most refinement path mortals and immortals we see are coveted by the righteous path, precisely because you become such a group asset. You said something about treating others equally to ensure no bad blood, but i think precisely because you could treat others equally, righteous path forces would be strongly incentivized to enslave or entangle you for their own lopsided benefits, or kill you to entrench their own advantages and leave no ground to even the field for others. It's also super expensive and comparably dangerous to active combat, so you would need a lot of support or an insane amount of luck. That said, with a righteous path force (or some hairyman genes) you would be highly valued for sure, they would probably give you lifespan gu over others and pamper you, though restrict your movement a lot. I think wisdom path would offer more agency, but similarly makes you a target cause no one wants to see you scheme them later some day. That's what I love in the series, everyone is so involved and analyzing every person's potential that they meet (especially at immortal level). Rank 8 meets a talented rank 6 dual path in two elements that might counter them? Probly gonna nip that bud, no need to excuse a threat you see coming when you can bet your ass there are ten you won't see (including your next tribulation). Much appreciated! Cultivating refinement path early on is indeed too expensive for any random person, so first and foremost would be achieving Rank 5, to leisurely take your time in your studies once you are on top of the mortal world.

The path I would choose is formation path. Just like for refinement path, formation path cultivators are highly sought after by the various forces, moreover you can create and use a formation for any path allowing you to have many methods to live longer. The only drawback is that it needs a lot of resources, but if you already are rank 5 then you should be rich enough.

to me, it is not a question of which I am most suitable for or which I have the most resources for, but which won't get me fucked. Assuming u get there in RI, it depends on which time, if it is at the same time as Fang Yuan, I'd stay the fuck away from any paths the venerables cultivate, since for example if u pick soul path but spectral soul is alive at rank 9, you can't ascend at rank 9 since only 1 person can be a venerable of that path, idk how this works with the sovereign immortal body tho

Everyone gotta remember that there is no strongest immortal gu, only strongest gu immortal and likewise there is no strongest path. Each path has its advantages and disadvantages regarding inheritances, resources needed, and gu worms. Wisdom path experts are able to plot and scheme against others until they don't realize they fallen into a trap but there are few wisdom path inheritances so nobody can really choose to cultivate. Extinct or buried paths like qi path, food path, luck path are worst because there are no inheritances and the resources needed to cultivate have gone extinct. The only time a path is invincible is at it's beginning where people don't know anything bout it but the more it's developed the more counters can be made against it

I’m a huge fan of the web novel but you have really evaluated and thought about it in a profound way. I think wisdom or information path would be really helpful for understanding the battle of benefits and making the right decisions to exploit resources, refinement path is great because it is one of the basic principles of Gu usage along with nurturing (food path?) and usage. If limited to a basic property of life instead of something more fundamental, I would favor something like Bone Path with abundant materials and the possibility of creating undead Gu to extend life. I think it would be interesting to create your cultivation genre using your transmigration experience in the Gu world like Heaven Thieving Immortal Venerable created Circuit Brain Gu and killer moves that emulate the use of mecha. Transitioning to a Gu immortal might be risky as a mortal, but it’s actually fairly simple if you have the help of an immortal, so if you actually do want to ascend to rank 6 I think getting the help of undead or sealed Gu immortals who have degraded to rank 5 would be the wisest choice.

You're right about that. If you can somehow make yourself useful to Gu Immortals, you can mitigate the risk of the tribulations while ascending. As for transmigrators, it would be interesting to see an extended universe where transmigrators from different settings reintegrate their societal characteristics into their cultivation. I wish we had more info on the world and time period Zhao Lian Yun is from. Fang Yuan seems to be from a fairly modern era of earth, as in the mortal arcs where the narrator was much closer to being a stand-in of Fang Yuan's thoughts commented on modern business and government practices in our world, it would be interesting if Zhao Lian Yun was either from the past or future earth and have her former common sensibilities expanded upon.

Where I'm at in the novel, Chaotic Dao marks have been hinted at, based on the experiments and inheritance left in Crazed Demon Cave, created by Limitless Demon Venerable. I believe he was researching how to transfigure Dao marks of a certain path to another path.

Chaos path is basically unsustainable it likely works in the opposite way that heaven path does intensifying Dao marks rather than organizing them like heaven path. You would likely not be able to form stable multipath killer moves or be able to cultivate anything other than chaos path.

If u hypothetically wanted to create a path, it should be based on gu world. Hence, heaven path is the most strongest path in gu world! There can be no chaos path, but if u sgm in heaven path and become a venerable, maybe then u could make use of chaos outside in yr killermoves and perhaps refine gu to an extend? But chances are next to impossible. Thus, "chaos path" could not be created and use.... If it was created, it would be higher than heaven path!!

hello, good video as always, but there are some things about heaven path i dont agree on heaven path gu worms are mostly in range of quasi rank 9 or rank 9 (fate gu), onlz mortal gu we have seen of heaven path is lifespan gu, which is impossible to refine and if you become immortal it is pretty much impossible to cultivate heaven´s path due to dao marks, even venerable failed, so there is no way we will succeed and someone with 7k+ years failed, + what i understood is normal gu immortal doesn't have heaven path dao marks, tribulation acts the way that tribulation comes, you pass it and heaven´s path dao marks in tribulation will form dao marks in your apperature, but heaven´s path dao marks would not be present, it can be seen when FY was able to pass tribulation, but got dao marks of path he didn't need, heaven path dao marks are present only when tribulation is active also i think you chose good paths, but i think that transformation path will be the way to go, mostly because it is easy to cultivate, and resources are plenty, also gu master´s body is pretty weak, mostly, and transformation path will somehow manage this aspect :)

Absolutely right about heaven path. Mostly unobtainable, even for most venerable. I think the refinement path attainment being beneficial is mostly because it will enable you to understand all other paths, heaven not withstanding.

Depends on aptitude and background tbh, I would probably cultivate wisdom path as it has close relation with soul and enslavement path. I would also cultivate refinement path after I become a gu immortal and start researching / deducing the recipe for enslavement immortal gu and I'll scheme against a gu immortal and use it to enslavement them.

After watching your video, I think I would choose water path as my main path while also having wisdom path on the side. I choose water path mainly because of the versatility and unless I’m put in western desert they’ll always be a abundant amount of water gu worms from which I could create some sort of fighting plan/style. Wisdom path is mainly there for monetary gains as wisdom path cultivators are always highly regarded and sought after.

Personally i would cultivate wood path primarily with some attainment in earth, time and space path as to boost my future blessed land. My reason for picking wood path is the sheer scale of what it can do and what it encompasses. First of all, since Wood Path includes both plants and fungi it means that i technically have at least some use for all immortal materials from both of those two animal kingdoms, while cultivators from any other path will only have a few plants or animals that can give them resources of their path. Natural non refined rank 1 gu are also often found in plains and forests which gives me a wide selection of mortal wood path gu to choose from. In general wood path also wont decline like strength path has since that would require massive patches of the planet to be wiped of all plant life, which is something neither the demonic or righteous cultivators want. Furthermore, wood path has several extremely beneficial gu such as the Heavenly Essence Treasure Lotus for primeval essence stone and immortal essence bead production, wood charm gu that can make me pretty easily handle rank 1-5 enemies (mortal rank, temporarily transforms you into a treeman that has a boost to the power of wood path gu and can also absorb primeval essence from the atmosphere, but has the drawback of turning you into rotten wood if you keep up the transformation for too long. It has ranks from 1 to 5, even if it is a " *tad* " expensive to upgrade), rank 1-5 pine needle gu which is essentially a minigun that shoots sharp thorn projectiles, making you adept at ranged combat, rank 1-5 wood origin gu, a consumable gu that carves wood path dao marks on you, as well as others. in general it has a lot of gu with effects from other paths. It is also widely used so i wont be too starved for various inheritances like some other paths are. The path in general is great at attrition warfare and regeneration, making me able to outlast the majority of people on my level. Naturally this doesnt mean i wouldnt mind having some wisdom, refinement or foundation path attainment, i just wouldnt make it my main focus.

Assuming I would get a complete inheritance in my chosen path, if I was in a righteous path super force I'd primarily cultivate wisdom path to get a good handle on all the politics that come with being a righteous path gu master/immortal. Otherwise I'd cultivate blood path to compensate for my lack of funds and try to be lowkey about it so that I don't piss off too many people in my region.

Personally if I could pick a path I would pick wood path now I know what some of you are thinking but hear me out wood path has shown and mentioned that there great at dealing with there blessed land and one of the downside is combat but wood path has shown the ability to make immortal essence with one gu and with other gu you could grow just about any plant or tree you want so profit and money seem to always be a option and even if people refined HETIL there has been more than one example of a immortal gu that does the same thing or something similar and wood path seem like it would be everywhere including western Desert so no matter where I go I could feasibly find me some extra income now this is all under the fact that if I could find a decent wood path inheritance but hey where there life there hope

If I could choose my path based on my preferred transmigration location/birthright, I would choose "Weapon Path" as my main path and "Sword Path" as my secondary path. My idea is that I would be transmigrated into the sect that Che Wei was from and cultivate sword path as a mortal. As I become stronger and grow in cultivation, I would become an immortal-seed and learn more about the immortal cultivation world. As my foundation deepens I would showcase an unmatched talent for not only swords but for using gu worms to create killer moves that turns everything into swords and touch upon a profundity of weapon path as a result. Due to the ongoing Venerable War, Che Wei and heavenly court are focusing heavily on their immortal-seeds and would take note of my comprehensions. After some evaluation and perhaps some trials/tribulations set up by the immortals of the sect, Che Wei would pick me as his disciple and teach me how to ascend in cultivation as a Weapon Path immortal so that I can help him propagate and research about weapon path, similar to the children of humanity, but more "child of weapons". My immortal cultivation would involve my attempt at turning the entirety of heaven and earth into weapons, and turning all those weapons into quasi-swords so that I could augment them with both weapon dao marks and sword dao marks. This would entail activating consecutive killer moves that initiate a quasi-battlefield killer move. If I surround the enemy with my power I could then initiate a real battlefield killer move instantly by connecting my killer moves with the surrounding world encapsulating the victim. Imbuing and controlling this subspace, the very ground they walk, the air they breath, and the space and time they exist within would become different weapons imbued with sword dao profundities.

My evaluation of sword path is that its another attempt by Spectral Soul Demon Venerable at trying to create "Killing Path" and why its even separate from "Weapon Path" in the first place. It could be more closely linked with the idea that swords are weapons created SOLELY to kill other people. Spears, axes, whips, etc. are all weapons per-say but they also provide a purpose beyond killing like taming, tree chopping, intimidation, etc. A more fitting description of sword path would be "the path of severing" or "the path of sharpness" if we were using logic to understand why weapon and sword are different. In all honesty the author could have just thought up weapon path way later than sword path and just said fuck it lol

​@@nom6758 Well in chinese, swords and blades are distinct concepts. Swords are double edged, and require grace and skill. If they were to be a branch of some higher level path, I would say that sword path is naturally derived from heaven path, like the majority of paths are. If spectral soul were involved, he would be responsible for blade path, as blades are interpreted as brutish, and require very little skill to wield, likening blades to butchers and farmers, but swords to nobles. As for the combination of the two, combining natural phenomena with an artificial creation would require the ingenuity of human path. At least that's how I see it working out based on your assumptions.

Since swords/blades are basically a main staple of all mortal life in the Gu World, it might have just taken a slight nudge from Bo Qing to create sword path. Your right on the ingenuity of human path, I checked the wiki when I was trying to remember Che Wei's name and it said that weapon path has "plenty of human path profundities". I appreciate the analysis from the Chinese source, as its all up to interpretation for people that cant read Chinese. One thing to note is that both blade and sword path are derived from Edge Gu, which is a natural gu created by the world. It could be that sword and blade path are just successfully proliferated side paths of a greater "Sharpness Path/Severing Path" that takes from Heaven Path profundities, or they're a successfully proliferated side path of "Weapon Path" which takes from Human Path profundities. Phantom Path is a profound side branch of rule path, but it still doesn't stray away from the use of Rule Path dao marks, so I'm leaning more towards Sword Path being a Heaven Path variant as all paths with their own dao marks besides human path (or the paths derived from human path) are created from Heaven Path. Human Path was only created after Ren Zu's derivation, since it really does exist but not in nature, while all other paths derived from heaven naturally exist in nature. I'd thus conjecture that Sword Path is SSDV's attempt at understanding the profundities of killing through Heaven Path (only needing a slight improvement in high level comprehension to proliferate due to its inherent use within the mortal world). As we know, SSDV only created Soul Path because heaven didn't give him the ability to create his killing path, but there's no reason to believe he stopped trying at that point. I think it depends on what your goals are. Do you want to be a support Gu Immortal? Do you want to be a front line fighter? Do you want to run a business? Even Fang Yuan admits that Refinement path has very little combat power. As a Refinement venerable he is one the of the weakest in combat. So he has to rely on coming up with creative solutions to boost his combat power. Of course Heaven path is amazing, but everyone would want that. So I will point out other paths that interest me: So I would want Space Path because I want to manipulate space and be able to go where I want. Teleport to places, make my aperture bigger, shrink things, etc. My secondary path would be stealing path. Not because I want to steal... but because I think that synchronizes well WITH Space path. In the story, No one could stop the Stealing Thief Venerable from going into any area. Nothing could be denied to him. He could break in, or go to any place in the Gu world. So he clearly had skills to support this. It syncs well with space path. I will go where I want. Money Path with Wealth Gu in interesting, but the lore is so weak on it. Not much is known besides that one man trying to refine wealth Gu. Food Path is also an interesting sub-path. You can feed your Gu and boost your strength and abilities through food. You can also eat things that other people can't.
