for 2020 wrx owners, Subaru changed both drug and fill plugs go on the rear diff. transmission into H10(drain) & 17mm(fill). fyi, both relocated from back side to passenger side.

Response to comment at 9:08. My husband recently died under a Subaru doing what he loved. His children and I found him. Using a jack and jack stands. Always have either some spare tire, wood or concrete blocks or something in place as a fail safe and always make sure your on level solid ground. No matter what always have some there never work under them when your alone.

Tia, I’m very sorry to hear that. If my comment offended you in anyway, I’d like to apologize as well. My wife refuses to let me work under the car if I’m alone as she is afraid for me. I’ll take your suggestions to heart. I’ll continue to have a back up in case the QuickJacks ever fail.

Just so you know the Subaru manuals uses a GL 4/GL 5 hybrid. You will get excessive syncro wear and noise if you us a GL4 gear oil, GL5 is recommended when you can't find the Subaru trans fluid.

next time once you start filling the transmission you can poke a hole in the bottom of the bottle to create air flow to speed it up a bit

Might be a reason why they only have the correct fluid in that huge ass tub. Will probably try a different brand for the exact reason you mentioned referring to the 75w-80.

Yup, heard a lot of good things with Motylgear 75w-80. Apparently it’s the best substitution for the factory oil.

Let me know how you like Amsoil for the transmission and diff fluid! I know I said I didn’t want to deal with other brands but curiosity is getting the best of me haha. Agree on the Quickjack. Made everything so much easier!

What year is your car, Subaru corp told me not to change my transmission oil that it will void the warranty. But I have 2021 Crosstrek and it's a seal transmission CVT it's a non-serversible transmission if it ever goes out got a lifetime warranty on it from Subaru. They told me if it ever fails that even the dealership cannot open up that plug it has to go back to the manufacturer and they'll send a brand new one out.
@ronfromportland Жыл бұрын
Mine is a 2018. Wow, that’s something I’ve never heard of before. I quickly googled it and that seems to be the case!
@neometalx9 Жыл бұрын
so... there is no drain and fill plugs for the CVT transmission? I got a 17 forester and it has them.. not sure about 21 crosstrek.
@_CryptoNoob_2 ай бұрын
And yes, there is a drain and fill plug for TR580 AND TR690 cvt. They all use a 8mm hex for both drain and fill plugs. Just make sure you do your research so you don't unscrew the wrong fill plug. I've seen sooooooo many times people just unscrew any old 8mm hex plug and sometimes, it's the wrong one and cannot be repaired without pulling the trans out. So make sure you find and mark your fill plug on your cvt. The drain plug is relatively unmistakable, but the fill plug can be tricky if you're unfamiliar with cvt trannys
@cbijames72 ай бұрын
Update to my last comment, so I stand corrected by another Subaru dealership, they told me to that I can drain and refill so I did do it at 40k I found out where the right fill plug was and did that correctly, so I use Amsoil And I did notice that it seem to drive better and smoother shifting even tho there no gears. But I will do it again at 80k
@RydexTheWolf2 жыл бұрын
When filling your trans you couldve poked a hole in the bottom of the jug, wouldnt take nearly as long
you could have punch a hole on the oil container to fill out faster.
@loekfelten5482 жыл бұрын
Maybe you know this already, but if not: I suggest you check Josh Bader’s channel: Bader Built. He knows his sh.t about Subaru and you could find some useful info there, also concerning the right fluids to use and how often. You seem to struggle a little and there are better options. Good luck with your channel ! 👍
