Loosen the front bolts first and leave the back bolts in so the fluid drips out of the front and not all over your frame.

I was surprised you got that much fluid out of it just by letting it drain. Some people will flush it forcing all the old fluid out and that tends to cause more issues I've read. My transmission has been shuttering since I've had it. I have a 2007 Ford F-150 5.4 3V and I'm about to have this done. Thanks for sharing.

You’re welcome! It is a good amount you get out doing it this way. Personally I am not opposed to doing a flush and exchanging 100% of the fluid, but there is a lot of controversy surrounding that method.

I have a 2008 ford fxl never had issues with shifting slipping or anything, then noticed transmission fluid underneath the passenger side, not sure if seal or line😢

Bennie could it be steering fluid pretty thin liquid, under passenger side I don't see no way to check fluids😢 it's manual all the way no fancy smansy on it

Beautiful instruction thanks, Ill like to know if i should change my transmission Fluid on my f150 08 5.2, i bought it 5 years ago with 189k miles, now its 260k and i didnt change the fluid of the transmission, i asked the mechanic guys who change my engine-oil if i should change the transmission fluid, they say dont because your f150 have high milles, for the 5years run perfect never hear any noise and no engine light or any light show in the disboard, but those few months i hear nois like terrra terra terraa, when im parking or reversing and sometime while driving below 30mph and few lights at dishboard shown now, So should i change the transmission fluid on my f150, to help the transmission Operate and function normally, Let me know, Thanks again

Thanks! The only time I don't recommend changing transmission fluid is if you know you have a major transmission issue. I have serviced high mile transmissions and even transmissions with some erratic shifting issues and have never created a problem that didn't exist. In many, many cases I have been able to resolve the issues that were going on in those cases. I believe that if you experience a transmission failure after a correctly performed service, the transmission already had major issues and wasn't going to make it much longer. All that being said, it sounds like you have some other issues going on. I would definitely recommend getting your truck checked to see what the dash lights are telling you. That's the best starting point with your situation.

In my pan, I came across 1 single bolt longer than all the others. Anyone know why and which hole to put it back into??? Ty

That sounds to me like someone lost a bolt at some point and replaced it with a slightly longer one.

I am scared to change my fluids I have an 04 I bought with a brand new engine but no clue on the transmission an I now see the pan gasket leaking you think I will be fine

If you need to change the pan gasket you don’t really have a choice anyways, but I’d be more concerned about not ever changing it then changing it now.

@@brandone6252 , you obviously know more about what happened with that truck than me, but it seems to me that there was a pre existing problem or something was done wrong with the fluid change. I wouldn’t think that simply putting new fluid in it would destroy a perfectly good transmission. Is there any other backstory you know on it?

@@brandone6252 that makes sense. A lot of times people service a transmission after they notice a problem. My take on it is that that’s a pre existing issue that someone is trying to address with a fluid change. It probably wasn’t the fluid change that was the issue, it was the fact that you already noticed the slipping before servicing it. On your current truck, if you have no issues, I would expect no issues after a fluid change.
