Such great videos I've now completed all 3 oil changes on my 2019 M8 SGS, after watching your videos it gave me the confidence to have a go by following your instructions to the T, when I purchased my SGS back in 2019 I was lucky that I found out following a bike trip to France that it was transferring fluid from the transmission to the primary, I was horrified to find that only 3 weeks after purchase I had near to nothing of fluid in the transmission I took it back to Harley where they installed a vent tube in the primary, they said they knew of the problem but was doing any call backs, and only doing the work when asked, But what I really want to say is thank you because watching your videos and copying your instructions on all the oil changes I have saved money but more important to me it has given me a sense of pride and confidence that I can do it myself

Thank you so much for your kind and generous feedback Ricky, I'm aware of that problem, and not surprised that Harley aren't making it a recall, only dealing with issues that arise under warranty.. same as many other design problems they have glossed over in the past.. Great to hear that you're taking a pride in your bike and enjoying that wider pride of ownership that swinging your own spanners brings.. Good luck with it and ride safe... Del.

Thank you kindly Sir for your generous words of support, we're really glad you enjoy the videos and that they can help you out! The seat was a great find, I got it very slightly used, it was a genuine factory Harley seat from the same year UltraGlide... just basically the big touring seat! The owner bought the bike new and put a custom seat on it straight away... so the seat was spare... I'm sure there's plenty on the market and if you can find one from a CVO it'll even be heated.

Thank you Del, another great video. M8 engines are notorious for transferring fluid from the transmission to the primary. It generally doesn't create that much of a problem but you may wish to measure how much fluid drains from the transmission the next time you do this service. If it is less than what you put in it has migrated to the primary. If you check the transmission oil level in about 2000 miles, I suspect you may find the level low.
@Moonfleet41
@Moonfleet41 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks buddy, I will do that, the secondary check is of course the primary level itself, and luckily when I changed it it was correct and so was the gearbox here, so no migration at this point (10k miles), but I will certainly keep an eye on it, I check my oil levels routinely anyway!

Hi Gary, I used to be the same way using the Syn3 in all three holes, and the primary isn't really important, in fact engine oil is perfectly good for it and hell I've even used ATF in primary's and it's fine... but as for the gearbox, just as an experiment, try a proper thick gear oil in your next change and let me know what you think! I reckon you'll be quite surprised how it softens up the shifts no end! Enjoy your week mate and keep safe.

@@Moonfleet41 ok I will do that, Del. The gear changes sure can be a bit clunky on those Harleys. I know I might have mentioned it prior but everyone should be careful with 3/8” drive torque wrenches. Some, dare I say most, of the ones I’ve seen and used only go down to 20ft-lbs and as a result I use a 1/4” drive on anything under 20. I also learned that the owners manual also cautions that the audible click is harder to hear at low settings and this is how I broke a cam cap bolt off in my engine 2 years ago.
