American '80s suburbanite here. New Order was the perfect soundtrack to my adolescent years- obscure, artistic and futuristic all at the same time. Music you listened to in headphones and shared with only close friends on mix tapes. In those pre-internet days, seeking out their music felt like a treasure hunt-- record stores and conventions, obscure shops with second-hand crates-- you never knew where one of those iconic Saville sleeves would grab you.

Every new album in the 80’s was an adventure. Never knew what New Order would do

I was 14yo in 1979 what a amazing time in music for my age...so much discovery so many genres blooming. What a impression it made on me. I never turned back and guided me in all my musical tastes til this day.

In Australia in 1983 starting high school, and by March had heard "Blue Monday" on shortwave from Europe, shared with many others new sounds already out with the electronic new wave, and the inclusion for a worldwide success in John Hughes films, "Pretty In Pink" and think of the posters in Ferris Bueller's bedroom, and there's that many of us from all over to gel with, and easily combat with the big hair and lycra that passed as heavy metal pap, as piss-take later in the videoclip with "Touched By The Hand Of God", but that's for another series down the tracks! Shout-outs to Elizabeth H and crew, and Tom Attencio, g'day, and g'days all round. Magnificent!

As an American who has been a fan since I first bought FAC 2 A Factory Sample when it came out, Stephen Morris’ comments about Americans not knowing who Joy Division were seems … curious. Maybe he meant heartland America, in which case fair enough. I would opine that their U.S. audiences “doubled” and “quadrupled” as their music got progressively more mainstream and less interesting, however. I jumped ship after “Low-Life” …

What an irritating production decision to restart the intro for Sooner Than You Think or Perfect Kiss every time a new soundbite is played. So lazy. Why not try and synch up new people starting to speak to different parts of songs. I keep thinking the podcast has restarted when the Perfect Kiss drums retriggered for the millionth time.
