So nice to finally hear from engineer Micheal Johnson. Think he’s never got enough credit for his role in the band.

Brotherhood is a masterpiece, despite the fracturing relationships and opposing viewpoints within the band, they still managed to make an exceptional record. Weirdo and All Day Long remain 2 of my absolute favorites out of everything JD/NO has ever done.

Brotherhood, my favorite NO album... I'll always remember the first time I pressed Play on my Walkman, just after buying the album on cassette. That incredible moment when I heard Paradise for the first time...

Brotherhood is excellent album. I still own original LP from 1986 and also first press CD. For me it is one of three very favorite NO albums.

The 1-2 punch combo of Paradise and Weirdo could only be rivaled had they put the 12 inch version of Perfect kiss on LL💙

BLT the song that brought me to New Order. Love that song an when DJing everyone would always ask for that song, yes even at weddings I DJ.

When we formed a band in 1988 we actually named ourselves TITAANZINK! But in 1989 re-releases of Brotherhood came with a changed cover, which only printed that word in bold letters on the front sleeve. So our record company urged us to change our name, cause they feared legal consequences as we were just about to release our first record. I still think it´s a great name (and it´s still not claimed!)

Stunning record, no matter how fraught the era. I was transformed as a kid seeing their gig at the Enmore Theatre in Sydney in early 97 on the Brotherhood tour. I think PCL is still peak New Order, but this one is very, very special. I tolerated and sort of enjoyed the next few records. But lost interest after that in the new music. They've had one to two OK songs since Technique. "It's their weirdness that interests me".

Can we have less of the unnecessary talking from gushing 'fans' and more band interviews? 35 mins minus all the gushing & recaps etc doesn't leave much time for the band..... Or did they hate this album so much this was scraping the barrel...?

'Brotherhood' is an album that everyone is trying to shout the loudest. It's too much. They really needed a producer on this one - not because they would be any better as New Order were excellent producers - just an outside view, an editor if you like. It's an acquired taste with the split sound between sides an exercise in the unnecessary. They had nothing to prove, but 'Brotherhood' is more of a statement than satisfaction. Stephen Morris is as ever, the voice of reason here.

Nope. I jumped ship after “Low-Life”. Couldn’t believe the 3 people who’d made the greatest music of my entire lifetime in Joy Division had ended up making such mainstream, bland music. Hooky once made the greatest observation about music ever: “Eventually you get overdrawn at the riff bank.”
