listen i don't want to cause discourse here but the "christianity" they support is politically motivated nationalism (more often then not white nationalism but i don't have the time to get into that today). it's not christianity. nationalists will not listen to scriptures unless they find something literal enough for them to spread bigotry and right wing idealogy and it's obviously very far from how christianity is supposed to work in practice. people like your parents do not give a shit about christianity even if they identify as such because there's no substance behind their faith that's biblically accurate because they do not get into the faith that way. i'm not putting the blame on you or anything but i have to add additional context as to why you think this way because stuff like this is a huge reason why certain churches refuse to intersect with others in the modern day. the methodist church is pretty progressive when it comes to their stance and faith and you can identify where christians and "christians" actively land because it sounds more like your parents became bigots by going down a rabbit hole of conservative persecution fantasies and felt the need to identify as a "christian" to feel bigger with their ideals since right wing christians who Actually identify with the faith do exist and unfortunately dominate, but there's a distinct difference between the two. i wish you both the best with your parents because it really is frustrating also joe rogan is agnostic. even if he was raised catholic his faith isn't there now

My older sister was constantly belittled by her really strict christian friends that said her wearing pants to church was a sin, it's what made her stop being a christian and it also made her really stressed, my mum was also a bit bullied in church.. When I was little I was judged by other kids since I hadn't read the full bible or memorized any verses, I understand how uncomfortable it can be when you have so many people using the 'Oh your going to hell' line against you, sorry about your experience :)

The majority of beliefs centered around being Christian are awesome, and so are a lot of Christian people, but the ones who are assholes ruin it for the rest of the group, which is honestly sad, because when you find Christians who truly follow the beliefs Christianity is based around, they are some of the kindest people you will ever meet. @@TheJadeyCat I'm genuinely sorry that your family and friends did that to you. You shouldn't have experience that. I'm sorry. I re-read my comment and it sounds ignorant so let me fix it. I myself am queer, I'm also a Christian (born and raised in a Christian family). I want to get to know more people in the LGBTQ community because I'm struggling. I know who I am, I know what my sexuality is but I don't where I belong. However, I'm worried that I'll be judged by other queer people for being queer AND a Christian because I know the general thoughts around Christianity in the LGBTQ community. I'm worried that I'll be judged for still sticking with Christianity because I don't what 'side' to pick and I really don't want to pick sides. I don't want to 'turn my back' on God because the Bible teaches you it's bad and I'm assuming you know about teachings about being a non-believer. I feel guilty choosing to leave Christianity but I feel guilty sticking with Christianity. I feel guilty leaving Christianity because, along side teachings about being a non-believer, Christianity is all that I know and I know the good parts of the Bible about love and just genuinely being a good person. I feel guilty sticking with Christianity ,however, because I know that there are a lot of bad Christians that don't follow teachings about love and I know that they've taken the Bible and weaponised it. Never in my life have I thought that other queer people or just non-believers who have had bad experiences with Christianity need to forgive Christians. That's your personal experience and I respect your decision. I've honestly always respected other people's beliefs. I just want help but I don't know who to go to or whether I'd be accepted(sounds silly and I don't think it was the right word choice but I don't what word I should use). I've seen many queer people who used to be Christians leave Christianity because of their identity and I respect that but I don't know if I'm ready to do that (I don't know if I'll ever be able to do that) and when if get to meet other queer people I don't want to be told what I need to do on my journey because they think I'm ignorant (idk if that's the right word) or they have their own personal negative views on Christianity. Once again, I'm sorry for making it sound like I'm forcing people to ignore any awful experiences because that's genuinely not what I meant.
