Transport Fever 2: Metropolitan Line Harrow to Chesham

A recreation of the modern Metropolitan Line on a 1:1 scale. There are many excellent cab-view videos of the real thing and other games have done it, notably Train Simulator. This layout has been made just for fun and to see how far TF2 (and nearly 200 mods) can be pushed.

Important - Limitations of this medium

I can only use the assets (houses, stations, rails, scenery etc.) available either in the base game or generously made available by modders. The London Underground uses fourth rail electrification, with two driving tracks and two electric. The closest I can get is by using a third rail mod. Equally there is poor support in the game for stations with entrances above or below the platforms, but this is the way most real-life suburban stations are built. There is only limited support for LU signage
To build the suburbs of the UK needs a huge amount of varied housing, shops, offices and public buildings. We have some in the game but nowhere near enough. Putting them in one a time is tedious but there is no alternative. So I have concentrated on the streets around the stations and tracks, and left open spaces elsewhere.
Some assets, like fences and doors, flicker. This may caused by problems with TF2 or perhaps my video card is not up to the job. Sorry.

Another fantastic video of a well know part of the Met line (to me!) - Pinner and North Harrow were the two stations I used the most (Harrow a close third) and you even got the house my parents owned (backing onto the railway, between North Harrow and Pinner) that I lived at in my very early years! Looking forward to the Watford and Uxbridge branch trips, and one into/out of Amersham (the furthest west you can travel on the Underground, but only if you’re a driver and stabling the train!) Just Awesome!

Very nice work! Well done. I'd like to see an aerial view of the same if at all possible :) Would love to see how you worked on the tapestry of colours in the fields etc - presumably just using additional workshop textures? Cheers.

Thanks. I have only done the streets adjacent to the railway, in most cases, so an aerial shot would be mostly empty and green. I use several textures to do the fields - its amazing how a little variety of green makes it look realistic.

Hi Anthony, I really enjoy your videos. I'd like to attempt something similar, would you be able to share your mod list? Better yet, would you consider a series showing how you build these maps and what the process is for designing them? Many thanks

These belong to others and I have modified them for my own requirements - for example putting buildings on bridges without deforming the terrain. This is why I have not published the save games on Steam. I am not going to do any more videos for the time being; making them does not come naturally to me and my video editing skills are poor.

@@anthonyguter Thanks for the list. It's a shame you're not planning any more videos, they're very enjoyable and I certainly notice anything wrong with the editing. Excellent work on what you've done so far - TF2 is the closest thing to a model railway sim and you've done a really great job of realising that!

Wow the detail is amazing. How long does it take you to make these routes ? Bet you have a good pc for this too. I do believe there is a British animal mod that takes care of the bears Cant wait for more

Thanks. Been making this one over many months, after a couple of false starts. My PC is nothing special - the map is megalomaniac but nearly all empty and with no AI towns at all, so the load on the CPU is kept light.

What fence and station assets are you using? I have never seen some of them

I use every fence mod I can find. The original mod for fences is by Snowball, there are several other mods that use it, including MadHatter's UK fences, a Russian set, a Chinese set and some hidden in Matze Pogo's Asset Expansion mod. I have built some of the station assets using Badgerhaxx Building Blocks. I also use industrial and residential assets from various mods as station buildings. If you want more specific answers, you need to tell me which bits of which stations you are interested in.
