Simple Living Alaska

21 күн бұрын

After a tire change in the shop we head to the hills for an early summer adventure to test out our brakes, retrieve a game camera and sight in new rifles. We see wildlife tracks and beautiful skies along the way and end the day with black bear burgers at the cabin.
We appreciate you tagging along for our Alaskan adventure 😀
Thank you for watching and supporting our channel! 💙

Wonderful video. All that work to get the 6 Polaris tires changed, with genius use of tractor equipment. Your joy siting in the new rifles. Loved the photos from the winter sight of the elk bone drop off. The slog through the swamp, very adventurous. I almost expected you to get a bear. I was talking to my sister in California, I am in TX. about your new garden build and planting the other day, plus all the other things you get up, and I told her about your hunts for bear. We just couldn't imagine how it would taste. Next time I will tell her how wonderful it looked and how much you enjoyed it. I wouldn't pass up a taste after that. Another memorable and enjoyable visit with you. Thank you and God bless.

Bandit's ready!! A tip. Before bleeding, use a turkey baster to suck out all of the fluid from the master cylinder, wipe it clean with a lint-free cloth, fill with fresh fluid and THEN bleed. Do NOT allow the master cylinder to go dry or you'll suck air into the system and have to start over. You are correct to begin with the furthest bleed valve. By starting with clean/fresh fluid in the master cylinder, when you get clean/clear fluid coming out the bleed valve, you KNOW it's flushed and has only clean fluid in it. Move to the next one and repeat. Another tip which can aid in knowing all the air is out is to use a stick to hold the brake pedal fully pressed overnight. Air rises, so any residual bubbles should migrate UP to the master cylinder. Also, if you don't already know about "Speed Bleeders", study up on them. They use a spring-loaded check ball to close the orifice when the hydraulic pressure is released during bleeding. They're slicker-n-snot on a greased pig. Yes, wolves will devour the bones. That bird's kin folk are sayin': "Why don't he write???" Yes, the lighter the weight of the rifle the harder the felt recoil. The heavier the rifle the less felt recoil. Also, put the tiniest dab of anti-seize on the threads for the barrel so the muzzle device doesn't seize up on you. Also, now that you're much further north, KNOW which lubricants will NOT freeze up on you in the middle of winter. Some local forums may help but will net you a lot of opinions. For wintertime a thin coat and lightly wiped off will lessen the chance of your firing pin freezing in place, or your trigger mechanism, or possibly even the bolt. Also, do not bring your rifles inside the heated tent/cabin. Leave them in the cold so they don't sweat (condensation) and then freeze up on you. And that way your scopes don't fog/freeze too, but I'm certain you've learned that by now. Helpful for those new to the severely cold climates from a more temperate one. Cleaning the barrel doesn't need to happen every time you shoot, when accuracy falls away is when you clean it. The other time is if you switch from a lead bullet to a solid copper bullet, the accuracy can go away on you. A squeaky-clean barrel's POI will differ from a "fouled" barrel (having a few shots through it, powder fouled). Once fouled it should remain pretty consistent. So, you should verify your accuracy after a few "fouling shots" after a thorough cleaning. "Back in the day" when people shot "black powder", it was critical to clean immediately after shooting. It's turned into a tradition passed down from generation to generation. However, today, with modern (smokeless) powder it's NOT corrosive, therefore there's no need to clean it right away. Anything using "black powder" still needs to be cleaned immediately after shooting. Another tidbit is to know your distances at which you "Point of Aim" is also your "Point of Impact". Since the bullet travels in an arc, there will be two distances in which the "POA" will intersect the "POI". For example: my 6.8 SPC caliber can be sighted in at 50 yards and it'll also be on for about 200 yards and be only a couple of inches high at 100 yards. Also, know the drop at distance to help you know what your POI will be for a given distance (in relation to your hold/POA). Also, on a low magnification scope you won't "see it" so much, but if you have a 24x (for example) HIGH magnification scope you'll be able to SEE your heartbeat due to the crosshairs moving with your heartbeat. So, for long range, don't grip the stock using your thumbs, your thumbs have a pretty strong pulse and will transmit that to your crosshairs. Rock on you two, God bless you both!

Clip a pair of Vice grips to the flange of the wheel and it will hold the bead of the tire below the flange.

The end of the video was great stuff, perhaps bloopers at the end of every upload? Very relatable and makes us all realize it’s not easy working with a camera in your face.

You know, with the number of wheeled vehicle's and trailer's and the side by side you may want to consider picking up a tire machine. You both are persistent and don't give up. That 1st tire and rim would have had been enough to send me in to town. We love you guys...

Hello friends, I am writing to you from Turkey. You are really a very hardworking and good couple. By the way, I would like to ask you to turn on Turkish subtitles on smart TV so that you can be watched more in Turkey.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I know YT frowns on anything about firearms and you folks took the time to show us the acquisitions and the sighting in of each. Thank you. Noticed you switched from a wheel gun to a semi auto for bear avoidance. I use to carry a 10 mm for bear loaded with wheel weight bullets during the spring while gardening. Long and exciting story there for another day. Great job folks. 73 & God Bless.

I would love to see a video about what kind of community you have there. Living so remote seems very isolating but you’ve mentioned neighbors and friends. How has it been developing relationships and how often do you hang out with other people? And what are their properties like?
