Same score out of me! I actually had a good bit of fun with this movie, and thought it was a pretty entertaining yet messy little cat and mouse flick. Definitely loses some steam toward the end and the conclusion is a bit undercooked, but as someone that hasn't vibed with M. Night Shyamalan for a while I was surprised that it worked for me. After seeing this movie, the better theory is that Trap exists in the same universe as Glass, Unbreakable, and Split. Without spoiling, consider that he is able to do (what he does throughout the film) only if there is a supernatural angle.

You must have VERY low standards lol..i thought this movie was pretty bad and I'm a huge M. Night fan.. This movie felt like it was more about Night putting his daughter into the limelight than anything else. I also thought the acting was really bad by his daughter as well. And the overall feel of a soft serial killer movie at a poppy teen concert didnt mesh well for me at all.

One of my favorite chase/pursuit type films is Silence of the Lambs and yes, I get that is mostly considered as a detective thriller but, it could definitely be considered a chase/pursuit type movie as well because, of Clarice trying to find Buffalo Bill’s hideout and free the senator’s daughter so yeah, don’t tell me it’s definitely not a chase/pursuit type movie when it definitely is based on my definition of the genre.

My favourite all-time chase movie, if we stick to on-foot and ignore vehicles, would have to be...either the Keystone Cops, or Benny Hill Show! 🤣
@chrisretzlaff28955 ай бұрын
So, you ranked this a bit higher than i thought you would. My feelings about the first 70 mins were pretty positive. Sure, there's a cat and mouse thing going on. And to say there was plot conveniences is an understatement. But i think I enjoyed the father/daughter dynamic and taking your teen to something that is extremely important to them. To see the excitement and joy on their face is as heartwarming as it gets. Hartnett and the young teen really had great chemistry, or as she would say, their scenes were crispy. This mirrors a lot in the overall movie with M. Night basically doing the same for his daughter. Which i felt was kind of cool. Music was fine... not my style, but it's good. Then the third act starts... I think...this movie ends three times. If you're not invested by then, there's no hope. It's clunky, illogical, and out head scratching. Chris, I agree with a lot you said... but there is a twist.... Spoilers... ..... ..... ... The twist is...the movie itself is a trap. As the third act continues and the movie itself changes... the audience started looking at each other and realized that we were baited into an hour debut of his daughters songs. And even though the movie and plot were essentially over, we were trapped till the end, thinking there had to be something more... I thought Sarah Paulson or Samuel Jackson were going to appear from the unbreakable trilogy. Or is this all a dream... something interesting... but nope, it was there to Trap you for an hour and 50 mins ish.

I’m a little surprised how few people picked up the preposterous concept of a serial killer who butchered 12 people in 7 years treating his daughter to this 20,000 seat concert because she got a good report card. I mean, c’mon, that’s the first clue that this movie is going to be a parody. A thousand SWAT guys guarding all the doors. A little bitty grey haired lady profiling him as she directs the search. The hilarious improbabilities! I loved the suspenseful cat and mouse premise, Cooper’s shrewd creativity in finding escapes, the machinations he goes thru trying to balance the Doting Daddy with the killer on the lam. One critic called it M Night’s turning Hitchcock on its head. Yes! As Cooper slowly realizes he is indeed in a seemingly inescapable trap, his two personalities collide. He isn’t just using his daughter as part of his facade, he finds a protective love for her (and later we see him remind his wife of the things the kids have to do! Another preposterous detail! An OCD moment for the cagey psycho.) There are a lot of people I know who are rooting for Cooper! I mean, how outlandish is that? 😂 Hubby and I were so entertained by this movie we watched it twice. Once we realized this is a parody of the genre, we got a kick out of it. And Hartnett gives a terrific performance. That last scene where he’s eating pie and tying up the story’s loose ends, his expressions, his eyes, slyly over the top malevolence. I heartily agree Saleka’s speaking role is miscast. I would have liked the bumbling Jamie accidentally get them out of the arena. After all, as we find out, the trap isn’t in the arena, it’s at home. And we loved the final scene with the wheel spoke and that devilish laugh. You know he’s going to escape again! 😂 Will there be a sequel where Cooper and the profiler go toe to toe? Hmmmm.

Not in the minority. This is another of his love it or hate it films. I think a lot of the audience wasn’t paying attention to the nuggets that lead us to find this is a fun take on the thriller genre. He TOLD us in the promos this would not be a Twisty movie, that it was something new. The only thing I agree about is the miscasting of Saleka once she’s off the stage. She hasn’t learned how to act yet 🫤. In a post release interview I was surprised to learn the lyrics of the songs are reflecting the inside of Cooper’s mind. That didn’t come across at all. I barely paid attention to the concert. I was fixed on Cooper and Riley.
