At a minimum, the second he got backstage they should have been like "yep that's the guy". Or when he was trying to leave with the singer and somehow ZERO of her entourage. I mean come on.

There's NO REASON to doubt the guy who gets backstage, he's randomly selected. And from their point of view, NOBODY is asking for Cooper and his daughter to leave with the singer, but the SINGER HERSELF

@@Ocyla the thing is, they know he's gonna TRY anything, but they don't get that he's already pulled it off ! To them, he's gonna try anything to get out of the public area...where he isn't anymore. They can't even imagine he'd ALREADY been randomly selected for the song. Now, i agree with you that they're underestimating his abilities, if you want. But in their defense, everything in the movie shows they got NOTHING on him. They just can't understand how powerful he is. I mean, the whole reason why they launched this whole operation, is because it's the ONLY LEAD they got on him for years, they literally have NO CLUE of the beast he is !

My analysis of him not killing or doing something crazy is that I think his OCD actually factored into it. This whole time he has been able to keep his serial killer life and family completely separate. This concert was the first time they collided where he couldn’t separate the two.

He absolutely didn't. The music is presented to us the whole time from Cooper's point of view, who doesn't care about it and finds it annoying. The first 45 minutes of the movie is basically telling us "if you don't give a crap about the music, it's OK, the main character doesn't eithe."

my first thought after watching was... "This could've been so good if they made the movie about a SERIAL KILLER!!!" Josh did an amazing job, but the supporting cast had some weak links. For example, the friend's mother... opportunity missed to SHOW US his serial killer side. She just ended up being annoying and too comedic as a character. This could've been soo good if it was taken seriously.

It truly was a trap for me as a spectator. I can't believe so much budget is invested in something like this; however I sincerely hope the writers were paid a symbolic wage, because they delivered a ludicrous plot, really pushing the viewer's suspension of disbelief in there.

I just watched it yesterday and I gotta disagree with your overall take. I do think some of the criticisms are valid such as the concession stand guy telling him as much as he did or even knowing as much as he did. I also think that for how many police/fbi agents there were, their methods of identifying the suspect was ridiculously inefficient. There is absolutely no way he should have been able to get out of that building. After they left it was insane. Which is why to me it was a 8/10.

That's right. "Show, don't tell" Trap does a great job of showing us the confrontation between Lady Raven's idea of general kindness and integrity and Cooper's idea of compartmentalizing life, relationships with loved ones and the serial killer's reinforced abusive mom side. From the very beginning, with Cooper's reaction to Raven's words about forgiving those who have hurt you. Only inattentive spectators, reacting only to the form, may not notice this)

So fair, especially regarding that painful script. Otherwise, I disagree. I loved his cool, tight control, because that's exactly how real serial killers don't get caught. It's what made his performance so devastating - he was a perfect personification of sick people who actually exist... but he's even better at eluding capture. And that last 60 seconds just WINS. Immediate Oscar.

What do you mean by saying that this film would have benefited from a "bigger producer name" behind it? This is an M. Night Shyamalan film - he was one of the producers, as well as writer of the script and director (from IMDb). The film should have ended at two or three earlier points, and the last third was preposterous. When Josh le ft in Lady Raven's car, she had already identified him as the killer, and there was no way that he just wanted to step off his car and when she insisted even agreed to her visiting his home.

As he’s said, he expects to provoke his audience, to make them THINK. Trap is a fun and very entertaining movie but there’s more to it than that. What if you take a preposterous premise, dress it up with 2 dozen improbabilities, have actors who can run with parody and make it hilarious. He said this film was unlike anything else he’s ever done. But some of you guys are too used to eating pablum to appreciate that what he’s done here is out of the predictable box and gives us something new and tonally absurd. Sure, there are some flaws (Saleka sings great but can’t act.) but it’s a definite 4*/5* work that is among his very best movies. My hubby and I have seen it twice!
