Exploring With Josh

Күн бұрын

The well-known Wild Bill’s Nostalgia shop is closing its doors in the coming weeks, according to a Facebook post on its social media page.
The shop features a massive collection of show-print posters, vinyl records, toys, collectibles, books, antiques, gag props, incense, vintage clothing, cartoon and carnival characters. It was the dream of founder William “Wild Bill” Ziegler, who passed away last year at age 70.
Ziegler’s family took over the shop on Newfield Street in Middletown after his death but won’t maintain it any longer.
Before his death, Ziegler was a pop culture icon in the city. He opened the store on Main Street in Middletown 33 years ago and relocated to Newfield Street in 1996. Last year, Connecticut Magazine named Wild Bill’s one of Connecticut’s 30 Hidden Gems. When Randall Beach wrote about the attraction in 2016, he said, "When you come upon the parking lot and exterior of Wild Bill’s Nostalgia Center on Route 3 in Middletown, you know immediately it lives up to its motto: 'strange things.'"
This year, Business Insider called the quirky curio shop the most overrated tourist trap in Connecticut.
The designation didn't offend Heather Page, Wild Bill's daughter and the store owner at the time. She said her father would have been pleased to be compared to places like Times Square and the Alamo (named worst tourist traps in New York and Texas).
"I think my dad would be proud. he would love that," she said. "He tried to build up a legacy, and I think he was pretty darn successful. He was always proud of every time we were in the newspaper."
According to the shop's Facebook post, “Growing up in this environment was fun and exciting for the most part, but this was all Wild Bill’s dream project. However, his dream is bigger than any one of us can collectively accomplish as a family. The business grew into something that we as a whole could never have imagined. It saddens us to the core, but the final curtain call looms on the very near horizon.”
The shop will be selling off all the items that Ziegler accumulated over his lifetime, according to the post.

I think Josh’s channel is one of the best channels that focuses on abandoned places and exploring. Yea sure, other KZbinrs make exploring and abandoned videos. But I seriously think Josh is the most passionate and excited and loves what he does most. His enthusiasm and passion shows through each and every video he makes, and it’s hard to say that about other youtubers who focus on exploring/abandoned videos. I feel like he’s definitely one of the most, if not THE most genuine, keep-it-real, passionate explorers on KZbin. He’s inspired me, as well as thousands of other people to explore and that’s so amazing.

I wonder if the people died and left that house abandoned, and if they had family. It's such a shame to see priceless family heirlooms like that just sit abandoned and rot instead of being passed down to family. I always enjoy seeing these videos and I enjoy seeing beautiful items and old photographs and new papers from the past, but it always makes me feel bad that all of those things that the owners loved, cherished and collected just sit there until they fall apart. Thanks for documenting and sharing 🥰 Stay safe

You’re really genuine about how you love urban exploring and you’re always happy to do it. Also in your videos I liked that you were never “let’s explore this creepy/haunted place to hunt ghost” Like it’s genuine urban exploring no matter if a place is supposed to be haunted or not

THIS VIDEO IS GREAT! Josh, you sometimes ask us if we enjoy a specifically kind of video and stuff. well this one was really good, and I just gotta say I think we love it the most when we can feel you are enjoying making them! That happens mostly all the time, but sometimes it's so great, like, look how amazed you were about getting into the fun house, or even about the weird dishwasher machine!!! A lot of people do exploring, but your way is what I think we like cause is so easy to feel your joy, it's like you are toooootally sharing your feelings and I truly think that's what I like in your videos and maybe the other explorers too. It's true we don't know that much about you, but is so cool to check all these different stuff through your eyes. And that's it, sorry for the bad English.
