Why did you trap the birds ?

If a birdwatcher finds that bird and sees it had a ring on it (or just finds the ring) they report the ring to relevant authorities. This shows where the birds migrate to, feed etc. Without ringing we would have no idea where many species spend their summer/winter. Eg. you might find a UK ringed blackbird dead in Russia. Some birds don't move far which can be equally interesting.
