No way. Only *I* get to feel bad and be in pain. *No* one else. *ME* and *ONLY* me can feel this bad!" One thing's for sure: I want to go back in time (Lich style, bb) and ask my past self to properly clarify my thought process.

@berniebroig8745 Жыл бұрын
@@DaBlueIghuana Because Lich can juggle the fabric of continuity (more or less) and the possibilities present therein, it can choose to maximize it's potential benefit from a situation (positioning, damage avoidance, opponent neutralization, etc.). However, in doing so it and its pilot becomes intimately aware of the drawbacks of their interference, seeing how their actions or lack of them will shake the future, forcing the observer (you) to begin to question their relevance and importance. Simultaneously you are subject to the gravity of your decisions and their subjective/relative importance in the ongoing cosmic play of the universe. An example: you are a Lich pilot, and you're on deployment with a Goblin and Monarch pilot, tasked to stop a combative wing of a militant group planning an insurrection. On the field, a grunt has just leveled out their rocket launcher and has fired on your heavily-damaged Goblin ally. If you and your piloted Lich decide to let that be that, that same grunt will allow their squad to carry on to their next objective, securing a safe position, at which point you and your group's efforts will be finished and you can leave, one less person in your entourage, but the grunt and their group will go on to make history and save their colony from a ruthless tyrant whose goals were all soaked in blood and greed. But you choose that moment -- where the grunt begins to level out their launcher -- to stutter the continuity, preserving your Goblin and allowing your Monarch compatriot to level the bunker the grunt and their squad were fortifying. Your team secure the position, this wing of the insurrection becomes neutralized, your tasks completed. The tyrant goes on to crush this small rebellion, and his status quo is restored. Three years hence, and the colony is a smoldering stretch of craters with buildings reduced to the most pristine, bloodied marble and space-worthy steel. Innumerable corpses line the streets, all who are left alive either weep openly or imprison their cries as tears stream their faces until the wells run dry. All because you had the chance to make a choice, and you took it. You had the power to keep something from happening. You don't know whether it mattered at all, and no one will ever look at you and think "this was *your* fault". No one will ever know. Except you. You'll know. Summing up: in a Lich, you become able to make the choices you want, and change the outcomes of the ones you don't. You get the chance to do a double take on your own decisions in case you don't like the initial turnout. Everything gets sort of detached, and you don't know how to feel. But somehow, "sorrowful" seems to always find its way to you. (Wow. Uh, my bad, b. That was a bit much. Also, mostly me talking out my ass, so only take it as seriously as you feel like. Plus, my recollection of the thoughts I was having at the time of writing the main comment on Lich are long gone, so I was guessing what my own meaning it interpretation may have been. Regardless, thanks for asking, and have fun!)

DM'S GUIDE TO HORUS MECHS: LICH Dragonkid has fully covered this one, of course, though I'd like to note with interest just _how much_ the concept of a lich took root after D&D. It might genuinely be the most influential and well-known D&D monster creation, more than the Beholder, the Gelatinous Cube, or even the Kobold -- almost certainly because unlike almost all the others, "lich" has just enough pre-D&D roots that they couldn't copyright it. It's also, of course, a very evocative concept with basically no limit on its applications, as you can see without a doubt in the Lich mech. This particular take on the necromancer can fit into just about any story with themes of death, immortality, and hubris, which have been with humanity pretty much since we evolved enough to understand death as a concept.

One thing to note about Soul Vessel is that if the triggering event would cause Jammed/Stunned/Grappled, it can be negated by this specific reaction, allowing the Lich to teleport even if it wouldn't normally be able to in any other situation. However, if they are already Jammed/Stunned/Grappled before the triggering event, then they can't.

I think the Horus mechs are still named after mythological entities as the Lich does originate from mythology with beings like "Koschei the deathless" from Slavic folklore being the epitome of a lich. Then there's the problem where, if they were named after D&D, the Gorgon mech would be more like the weird poison metal bull from the game rather than the petrifying gaze mechanic from Medusa. Great video, love to see what you do next

Considering that the Pegasus was originally gonna be called the Beholder (& still kept a lot of eye-themed motif in it's core power & some of the licences,) I'm pretty sure the D&D referencing was intentional (& so was having enough plausible deniability incorporated into the naming convention so they didn't get sued.) Besides, who's to say one of the progenitors of HORUS didn't stumble across the full text of "D&D 50th Edition" in some old archive somewhere & got inspired...?
