As a very introverted person, it's easy to lose your stride. The more often I interact and socialize with people, specific people, the easier it is to interact with those people. If I spend a decent amount of time away from people I lose that familiarity and I become very awkward around them again (even family). It takes time again for me to become reacclimated to interacting with them.

Just to make it clear, I'm not saying something random for sympathy points. I'm responding to the portion of the video where they talk about how they think it's odd (Connor seemed more confused than the rest tbh) that you'd "lose the ability to speak to people" and being worried that people will judge you for still not wanting to socialize after (which as demonstrated will occur lol). It's most definitely a real thing that happens, but apparently extroverts don't have to worry about and as usual are confused when confronted with the reality of introverts.

Man even when you're not an internet celebrity, guys will find a way to stalk you. Here's a little story. I'm a guy who likes the occasional techno party. Out of the blue this guy messaged me after on my anonymous twitter, saying he liked my style and all. I was like "hey thanks, I'm not into men but how'd you find this? Did I give you my twitter?" and he just explained how he stalked my facebook attendance on the facebook event page, then manually backtracked my twitter through one of my relatives' twitter. Probably never talked to the guy that whole night. Shit seemed innocuous but there's nothing that describes the feeling of somebody like that approaching you through complete anonymity on purpose. Then proceeded to ask if I still worked at the place mentioned on my facebook. I denied it and then set all that shit to hidden. My friend helped sus out who it was and even when I saw him at the next event, he never bothered to just approach me normally. Just what the fuck. I'm not worried about it anymore, but that kind of thing can put you on edge.

Regarding the thing about struggling with readjusting to social interactions, I'll give some of my own anecdote. I live alone, and my work moved to being entirely remote, and I've very, very seldom seen friends the past year. Going to the supermarket or doing errands that requires being out in public, generally makes me incredibly anxious about being around crowds. Between, those I'm noticing I'm more uncomfortable with small talk or eye contact and trip over myself if it ever comes up. Going possibly weeks without much in the way of an actual conversation with another person. Granted, I'm already an introvert, but the isolation from the pandemic made those tendencies way worse. And after a solid year of it, it's going to take adjustment.

When they were discussing social skills after quarantine I was surprised that they didn't see the issue, as someone with social anxiety who already didn't know how to talk to people or make friends my progress was reset, and I'm lost and nervous in any social situation now, the only human I talk to outside of my family and college professors is my girlfriend who I still don't know how I got.
@beingWantable3 жыл бұрын
About the socializing thing, it's the anxiety. Having to be in a work environment again. Actually seeing people when you present. Having to do small talk (when probably still nothing is happening is even worse). The judgemental looks if you're still acting cautious. Not wanting to stand to close. The amount of people in general coming together in one place... In general socializing will be really exhausting for a while, more than before. To be honest when we had fewer restrictions during summer and the company had a drink in the open air, I was quite anxious. They also served finger food... like dafuq. People stood closer and closer together. I didn't stay for long. My first IRL presentation for a meeting was really exhausting and awkward. Like doing a presentation where someone is on call and the other people sit far away from each other is freaking weird. The whole atmosphere was different even when were not that formal with each other. Like at work it is hard to stick to the rules for corona if other people are only doing it half-heartedly, there is more pressure than in your free time. Even when they say it's okay.
@icepenguin72783 жыл бұрын
I have terrible anxiety. I have gone to the hospital before for it like an panic attack. And this quarantine is making it easier for me to talk to random people and giving me less social anxiety. Before I was like I am scared to ask the cashier something but now I am like not even caring anymore

I can relate with Connor's balding issue. Props to him for coming to terms with it and being able to accept it. My family has a history with hair loss, so basically my genetics weren't the best. I'm in my early 20's and I'm already experiencing hair loss, to the point that people around are starting to point it out. Fortunately, nobody has even been rude enough to make fun of it or anything. I tried several ways to prevent it but none of them really worked. I just decided to accept the fact that it'll happen whether I do something about it or not. But yeah, when someone points out that you're balding it still feels embarassing. I just try to live with it. After all, the hair on a person's head is only just a small part of who they are.
@Saiko1Mania3 жыл бұрын
My hair started thinning in my late teens, and by my early 20's I had a noticeable bald patch. After a while I just said fuck it and shaved my head. Never looked back. It's liberating not to give a fuck about whether people can tell, and hair is a lot easy to manage when you've basically for none. Shave the dome, brother. Trying to fight hair loss is like trying to fight aging - you'll never win and you'll spend far too much money in the attempt. Why be embarrassed by something that happens to huge swathes of men? Embrace it! You might even find your prefer the shaved look - I certainly did, and that was after years of wearing my hair long in school. It's now minimal maintenance and looks infinitely neater. Plus, if you hate it, you can just let your hair grow back in. Worth a try at least, and if you find you like it, you never have to worry about whether someone might notice or comment on it again (as if they were telling you something you didn't already know!)

One thing I’ll say from an introvert’s perspective is that prior to the pandemic, I tried to avoid social situations and interactions, but I knew that I _had_ to push past it for some basic things like going to the grocery store or going to work, and it felt like my hesitance to leave home was an issue of mine that I needed to push past. But now I’ve gotten used to not doing it all, and I can make more excuses for not leaving. So I have left home fewer than 10 times since March 2020 (as of October 2022). Getting groceries delivered now feels normal, I’m used to buying everything on Amazon, working from home is now normal and more widely available, and I’ve normalized in my head saying no every time someone asks if I want to go somewhere. And among people who are excited to finally go out in the world and do things, and those who ignored the pandemic and continued going out during it, my perception is that they still see me as just as weird/pathetic as they would have prior to the pandemic, even though all the individual things I’m doing are more normalized. But maybe that’s just because my dad ignored the pandemic and never changed his opinion, so he’s super judgy about it and I project that attitude onto others.
