Joey: mad because Erased is so high in popularity Connor: mad because Erased isn't called "Erased"
@Forwaken11 ай бұрын
Have to say, they are definitely too negative towards the show, I thought it was alright. Doesn't deserve to be as popular as it is, but it was a 7.5-8 out of 10. (on anime scale, cause anime is the type of media where if you find an anime that is 5/10, it will be straight up painful to watch). Of course, I *AM NOT* dying on this hill, it ain't anything crazy, it just is made out to be the worst thing ever made when the show was over all a pretty decent show until it fumbled the ending due to heavy rushing. (though most complaints are because the adult MC who traveled back in time didn't get with the 11 year old girl he saved) Then again, I have seen Usagi Drop's manga ending, and any ending is going to seem amazing compared to that.
@fluffbunn417511 ай бұрын
@@Forwaken Erased is a weird case. It for sure fizzled out for the last 3 episodes and the ending didn't land. But what usually gets remembered in anime are the highs of a show and the highs of erased were VERY high. Because that's how it works, people will remember the 4-5 best scenes of a show and not the show itself. Having a great start also helps with high score because everyone give it high scores after 1-3 episodes to give it visibility but that's how sites like M.A.L. work

Yeah i get that it was a rushed adaptation, but its sort of like a journey over destinatiom type deal. Because the story and characters were very interesting. I still believe this anime is the perfect introductory show to anime, even moreso than deatnote or AOT, since it doesn’t have the over the top nature of most anime, yet it has some punch to it, and most people like suspenful criminal dramas, and this one does a great job at that (until the end which is pretty mild and predictable, but not necessarily terrible). So far I’ve used it to introduce my friends into anime and it’s worked around 5 times, 3 of them have watched more stuff while the other two simply watched the show and enjoyed it but didn’t watch other anime.

I actually loved the first 12 episodes of Steins Gate, because every single character in the anime is just amazing. If Steins Gate were just a slice of life where Kurisu and Okabe are having a banter constantly I would still give it a 9. The time travel aspect of it is also just incredible and the explanations of all of the time travel concepts is phenomenally done. It has almost zero plot holes, which for a time travel show is quite rare as well. The best part of the anime is probably Okabe him self, who is a really funny and charming character while also being quite intelligent and someone who cares deeply about all of his friends. I am not very good with words and someone else can probably shed light on how much of a masterpiece this anime is better then me, but I think it's truly the best anime of all time

One thing to note on FMA Brotherhood is that it came out when the manga was reaching the ending climax, and the whole show was released in just one year. You could re-experience the whole story while the end of the only 104-chapter manga was approaching fast, and the hype around both manga and anime was immense. I'd be interested in seeing the reactions on the show from someone who has not seen the classic 2010's animes and only knows most modern animes.
@WieldMyWord11 ай бұрын
I watched it around 2012 or so and it was a good show, but its far from number 1. Given the modern pacing that show might be a bit slow and boring, if Mal got a reseted it would mainly be modern shows in the top 10.
@IDKLOL-qj7sl11 ай бұрын
see, my take on FMA Brotherhood is that the manga is just 100% better. I hate the way Brotherhood ruins the Leore storyline by pacing it poorly, adding too many jokes/ruining the somber tone of the brothers trying to convince Rose that her fiance is permanently dead, and also by dumping in this fast tracked hackneyed anime original first episode, which means that Leore is no longer the story's hook... that's pretty egregious to me. and especially because the guy's plan in that anime original episode, was to use a lot of anchor points over a wide area, in order to create a transmutation circle that sacrifices everything within it's bounds. that's borderline just spoiling major late series plot information, or at least stealing the thunder from those realizations. all of that was _supposed_ to be a revelation, when it naturally becomes relevant later in the story. why do this? why fuck it up this badly?? new fans are gonna be confused at best, and unimpressed by later plot reveals at worst (because they technically already knew this information), and older fans like me are gonna find this jarring, strange, and annoying. and I also hate that they cut out the part during the boys' flashback to Izumi's training, where Izumi sent a guy dressed as a monster to chase them around on the island. it takes away so much from that part of the story. Izumi sent that guy to make sure that the brothers could keep up on their hand to hand combat skills, but also to make sure they wouldn't die if they were struggling. if that guy isn't there, then Izumi really is the type of woman to just leave two children in the wilderness alone. but on top of that, Ed and Al only realize what "one is all and all is one" means, because they have to hunt for food to survive, but they _also_ feel like they're being hunted by this beast. they feel like they are both predator and prey, so they understand the feelings of both of those roles. this is how the life/death cycle creates balance in nature. it's important for understanding the fundamental laws of alchemy, but it was also probably Izumi's way of trying to lead the brothers to realizations that she'd already had, about why you don't do human transmutation. a lot of FMAB's blunders in the early parts of the story, as it attempts to fast track its way through the stuff that FMA 2003 already covered, kind of trample on themes that need to be well established, if the later parts of the story are going to hit with full effectiveness. I'm not saying it'll fully ruin the experience, plenty of people have loved FMAB when it's the only version of the story they've ever known, but I've also known people who fell off of it, because they gave it like 10 episodes (a more than fair shake) and just really weren't enjoying it. and I think knowing how the manga handled the early plot could potentially change that.

Bleach on paper isnt a frieren level of deep and its not trying to be...top 10 maybe not, many fans helped that. But im happy for it. Also, saying that bleach's book is definitely closed when kubo dropped a bombshell revealing literally the most epic arc of the manga and probably one of the best arc is shonen period ? Lol. I'm well aware that it's a "one shot" but you're supposed to tell me that kubo the mastermind did this without thinking about the entire arc in details ? ... The guy is THE foreshadower way above oda lol. When the anime catches up, if this madman adapts the one-shot as well the entire anime fanbase will loose their shit xD.

Bleach has the stuff, and TYBW that all those people hating on it at release now eat crow...Reminds me how manga fans cry when reading week to week then the anime comes out of a series and the "BAD" arc turns out good...and their said "good arc" turns out too fast paced and dry for anime onlies. aka manga pacing cant have revelations every chapter kubo had great art and with modern pacing his manga flows pretty well episode to episode. @@ryohei9027

@lachlanjones903 The relative slowness of the first half is the biggets gripe for most people, but I personally enjoyed the first half as I just love the chemistry between the main four characters - Okabe, Kurisu, Mayuri, and Daru. I have to admit, however, that a couple of the other characters seem a just a bit... idk, boring? I won't say who, because I don't want to spoil, but they felt a little bit like fillers. But I guess that's because the anime is based on a visual novel, so the creators just wanted to give exposition even to the side characters. However, the rest of the anime is 10/10 and literally everything is crucial for the development of the plot. There's a tiny oversight at the very end of the anime, which I think is not well explained, but the emotion and the development of the story sort of mask it enough so it's not a big deal.
@lemuelszeto11 ай бұрын
Same - seems like some people have short attention spans and aren’t that intellectual (for a lack of a better term) and so just gloss over the character dynamics and exposition and build-up of tension in the first half - that are all crucial for the second half!! ‘No deaths and fights and explosions and zipping through timelines? Boring.’

I think the reason that the chimera ant arc was longer is because togashi really went all out with theming and general character development, so he needed more space to write. The boys are definitely underestimating the first half of Steins;Gate which I can’t fault them for honestly. As someone who only watched it for the first time a couple of years ago and has rewatched numerous times since the first 12 episodes are masterfully written and directed slowly building up the tension and atmosphere evoking dread and anxiety in the audience. The second half is better but that first half is so underrated with how effectively it builds up all the elements and creates tension and suspense for the inevitable more bombastic second half.

And when I lot of people say that, I think there is definitely something that went wrong with it. There r shows that have a slow start like haikyuu, even vinland saga. But there has to be something to make the viewers make excited to continue. Steins gate couldn't get that well. It wad well written but there was definitely something missing that is rightfully criticised

@@prithagore4870 That something was the mystery and the sci-fi mechanics of them testing the time travel stuff. the first half of steins;gate had a hook, the hook was just something that excites a weirdo who watches something like primer for fun like me. But even without it, it just had a fun ass group dynamic. which made it have an appeal similar to something like haruhi. If you find the first half of steins;gate boring, mystery or/and sci-fi are probably just not things that can keep your interest on their own. The second half of steins;gate isn't even more fast paced. it just changes genres from a mystery sol sci-fi, to a thriller sci-fi with some mystery.

Some people won’t jive with that style of storytelling and that’s totally ok. For the people who aren't the 10 Bleach fans (I am one of the 10) the new seasons of Bleach are slightly deviating from the manga due to Kubo's involvement. There were some recent changes in the 2nd cour that don't necessarilly mean the ending will change, but there are brand new scenes in the show that were never in the manga. Especially in the last 3 episodes of cour 2, there were major deviations from the source material. There are a lot of indications that the future of Bleach will have more of these deviations because Tite Kubo stated that he wanted to add the things he couldn't add writing the arc due to health complications. Thanks for reading my TedTalk about Bleach.

I think one of the defining feats of FMAB, especially in comparison to almost every shounen, is that it understood how to properly end a story. It understood pacing, and knew when to reach its climax and wrap up its story, while almost all flounder trying to stick the landing. People will always remember you for how you finish the race, and will judge you purely on that (look at GoT, Bleach, Promised Neverland, HIMYM, Death Note, Akame Ga Kill, Dexter, Soul Eater, Lost, and even AoT to its divisive ending for examples), and overlook the mistakes you made in the middle. In fiction and anime, creating a cool concept is easy, but telling a complete story is always difficult.

@avaneesh3118 Brody u know what, is so fun discuss FMAB to non watcher let me reply your point one by one. 1. Actually I didn't watch the 2003 version because someone said that version is different from manga, maybe for some old fans watch FMAB will bring back their old memory, also let's talk about the story. - Maybe for some people the pacing, humor is bad and a lot of useless dialogue but can you give me that one anime that have good humor, pacing also meaningful conversation for the entire show? for the first point I'll continue for final part. and can you name the shonen author that can write the good story telling and know how to end their series?. 2. Alright you got me there, the anime is not a seinen the reason why for me to said that because the first 5 episode are truly diabolical abomination horror creature made by human also willingness to sacrifice anything, the show remind me a lot of what in the Berserk just happen. Even in FMAB the mc not even the strongest in his verse just like typical shonen protagonist, FMAB truly not your typical shonen genre. Not and even hxh can beat a diabolical of chimera episode in FMAB, no offense hxh fans just IMO. 3. Now for the final part let's continue from first one, u know what actually I didn't care about the sfx of action maybe some of you care, if you're talk about the real soundtrack, FMAB have 5 each for OP and ED. "predictable plot and bland villain" for that I didn't want to spoil sorry but the key is "King Bradley" that mf is a menace the only villain that I find fully using his true potential power even though he's the weakest homonculi. Bro just watch 20 episode and calling it a day then review the entire fucking show? like I let that slide didn't you? btw you're remind of my friend that watch the entire One Piece and Fairy Tail and calling the FMAB is too long and suck like wtf. Power system is boring yeah I know but let me quote some good shit alchemy wizard from the manga. Also the plot wasn't technically complete, basically euphemia was on suzaku's side of the argument that they could fix the system from within, lelouch points out it's idealistic and hopeful but admitted defeat since the majority of public sentiment was on her side already and the people had "lost the will" to fight beyond a minority of them. It's probably gonna fall once the anime is finished and other people's reviews and ratings start pouring in but i think if it keeps the quality it has had until the end it definitely deserves to be on the top 50. The animation has been super consistent, the music fits perfectly, the story takes it's time to tell itself well and the characters are lovable and well written. Also demon slayer season 2 is in the top 50 and it was fun to watch but it was basically just one fight scene and didn't have much substance.

I personally agree with that take, especially seeing Tokyo Ghoul at n.9, for all of us who love it, we all fucking love because of the manga, even with all the memes and stuff and panels being used with different text, there are so many visceral and beautiful panels in that manga that I'll never forget, and the anime simply throws it out of the window, I've never watched Frieren nor read it to comment on it too, but no way you get an abysmal anime to top 9 without the manga.

steins gate is my personal favorite show, the beginning is super slow i agree but seeing Okabe go through being like charismatic jokester, then his mental getting absolutely shattered and then finding the resolve to be himself again and find that happiness through all the shit he's going through was an absolutely amazing journey to witness. 100% the reason it hasn't been topped on my personal list

I just enjoy so much how weird Okabe is at first. You need to have this "slow" start to get to know and even be a little annoyed with Hououin Kyouma, so that the break down of Okabe as a character hits so much harder. And I just realised the most obvious: You also need it to appreciate and feel the hype of Hououin rising again like the phoenix from the ashes. God damn it. xD

I was kinda nervous when I saw they'll talked about LoGH, but so glad they think the same. It has some of the most incredible writing I've ever seen. Its themes are almost too scholarly for an anime haha. But Tanaka, the author of the original novels, was a literature graduate iirc, and is well versed in history, so that generally explains the background on why LoGH is what it is. As they said, it really takes commitment to get into. Even with someone as dumb as me who is not really into themes about politics, ideologies, war, humanity, philosophy, and whatnot, the show really challenged me think deeper on these topics. But even if it places such great emphasis on those themes, it never felt overwrought. Because more than the intelligent writing aspect of it, the emotional writing of the show, most of the characters are just done extremely well. There are some lines in LoGH that almost read like poetry. You can tell that the author poured so much thought to his work, being it such an expansive world and story. And it has one of the greatest endings ever. It is by no means perfect, but is definitely a great piece of writing. For those that want to get into LoGH, the DNT remake is done well, if you find it hard to get into the old animation. Because truthfully, the animation in the earlier episodes of the original OVA were a bit rough to get into but it eventually got so much better. The ships looked so good in the remakes, Reinhard's Brunhild looked so pretty. And obviously, the quality of the battles is way better. But I honestly like the character design more in the OVA. The novels are great too, but they said the english translations aren't the best but honestly after reading almost all of the novels, I thought they were completely fine.
@chrisv271211 ай бұрын
the english translation of the novels were completely fine! ova elitists just wanted an excuse to not have to read the original text 🤡 the ova they so highly hail like the second coming of jesus isn’t a completely accurate adaptation either (i.e. the first season has some changes from the first 2 novels, some characters especially reuenthal were not accurately depicted) but apparently they refuse to read the original source 🤷♂️

HxH has a lot of great elements. And things like experience mattering is also so well done. Like you can be a prodigy, have some insane raw power but you need to first control that power within Nen and on top of that you need experience. If you lack that, the experienced Nen user, who could be even weaker, could beat you through creativity.
@Nikkska10 ай бұрын
Yeah Nen is the best situational power system in my opinion. Opposite of Dragon Ball like “Power levels” and instead about how an ability can counter their opponents. There’s a reason Nen is the gold standard for Shonen battle series!
@Kiluei10 ай бұрын
@@Nikkska Its wild how many rules it has but its still very creative. Its also crazy how Togashi had already created another very creative powersystem as well in YYH. Spirit Energy was very basic but then in the middle of the story he introduces characters who have ''territories'' which was done very well. And lots of modern day manga have copied versions of that. I think JJK has a version of territories. Haven't watched that series yet but it looked like it from what I read. Togashi was even able to add a whole different powersystem into HxH while explaining Nen. With Greed Island and the way the game worked. Which also was a Nen ability lol

I originally tried watching the anime, and in episode 1 I was immediately put off by how entertainment-sparse it was. It felt like the story wasn't doing very much to keep the viewers' attention. I recognized this feeling though, since I had felt the exact same thing about the Fate/Stay Night Ufotable adaptations, so I decided to check out the VN, and my intuition turned out to be correct----the VN version is 10x more entertaining right off the bat. Basically, the reason anime-onlies seem to think the beginning is "too slow" is actually the exact opposite----it's too fast. Or rather, too poorly adapted. The anime drops tons of entertaining parts from the beginning just to rush to the midpoint. I actually liked the first half more than the second half in the VN. The writing is very solid. The sciency parts are interesting, the comedy is generally enjoyable, and it builds tension extremely well. Not to mention it has a great soundtrack. Meanwhile I found the anime (which I watched when Oozora Subaru was reacting to it) to be less effective in every metric. Steins;Gate 0 had the same issue. Though it was even more extreme, in that it dropped my favorite scene out entirely (the Christmas scene, which is one of my all-time favorite scenes in any piece of fiction).
