I deleted the app. Tik tok can be so informative with skincare, new products, life hacks, and reviews but it also has the same toxicity of twitter on an adolescence level. I notice so many people on the app no matter their age have the mindset of a young person. It is also made to be highly addictive (with same science as casino slot machines). It can also make users believe they are being more productive than usual educating themselves on about certain topics when really they are wasting time doing nothing (with no actual physical action or “doing” the thing that needs to be done). Edit: My advice if you love something do the ground work to learn more beyond your social accounts. Go out and see the world and meet new people. Follow people who can elevate your prospective. This is why I love Lucy’s channel. Such an educated, elegant and beautiful person.

I'm so glad someone has finally spoken about people inventing new insecurities and passing them on to other people. This phenomenon has trickled down to the children. Trauma dumping starts on social media and carries on into real life. I work as a front desk receptionist for a children's gymnastics facility where a majority of the parents are millennials. And they are WAY too comfortable spilling to me all the intricate details about their divorces, custody situations, medical conditions, and other adverse family situations (such as death or their children being bullied at school) when I'm just there to process their payments and enroll their child in classes. Being obligated to listen to all that- when it's not part of my assigned job- really WEIGHS on me when I have my own life to worry about.

I stopped using social media besides KZbin and I was absolutely floored by how much TIME I had during the day. It felt like I had an over abundance of time. Suddenly I was able to have enough time to do my make up in the morning before work, I had enough time to read before bed, I had enough time to do homework (And complete it in a reasonable enough time that I was actually able to enjoy my weekend!) It was absolutely insane just how much time that social media took up. I never noticed how much of my time I spent scrolling before that. I also noticed that my mood improved and I was able to establish a routine and find hobbies that I enjoyed doing. Scrolling had taken up so much of my life that I didn’t even have hobbies anymore. I was never “bored” enough to actually take the time to learn a craft or invest in an activity. There is so much world to explore outside of the digital realm. I’m so, so, so glad that I actually got away from it and I’m not sure if I will go back.

I’m conflicted on the child star thing because we (the audience) won’t exactly be told if the child said it was ok to film (even just for 1 day) we don’t know. Also, there are the ‘local’ KZbin children who actually make it from basic videos (e.g. Chloe & Halle) I think if parents are actually savvy enough not to exploit their kids into easy cash cows but use platforms wisely (I also DO NOT watch any kids on KZbin)

OH man... I realized recently that sometimes I "trauma dump" but didn't know that I was "trauma dumping" lol . So embarressing. It's like I did it on random posts on people's videos about their videos, like a short story or comment about an issue, like a POV, or experience in a way.... I guess to explain it. But the filming thing!!! There is a fitness guy who will do response videos to people that are fitness influencers making a big deal about working out and getting upset that people being in their videos - when they are in a public gym!!!! Or there was this 1 video of a woman telling a guy that she wanted to work out on the bench he was on - in the middle of his work out and that he should go to another spot in the gym because she's a "fitness influencer", who cares!!! The fitness guy calls them all out. I am so happy he does. I don't work out in public gyms because it's embaressing to me cause I ain't athletic at all, and I don't want to be filmed and I have health issues. Too self conscience and if something goes wrong with my health, I don't want it all on social media. Nope. But also another thing with the filming thing... You are right about NOT WANTING TO BE FILMED! We have a right to swat someone's camera away because they don't have our permission to take our photo or video record us! Especially in some states and even some countries, it's ILLEGAL TO FILM SOMEONE WITHOUT THEIR PERMISSION! I found out recently that it's ILLEGAL in Michigan. 1 of my friends was in court for a custody agreement and his ex filmed him and his wife 1 day WITHOUT their permission, she also couldn't figure out how to send it in to the court before hand and when she said she had this so called video of them, the judge stopped her talking and told her "good thing you couldn't figure out how to send it in for evidence because it's ILLEGAL IN MICHIGAN TO RECORD SOMEONE WITHOUT THEIR PERMISSION!" and my friend and her husband didn't know that either and told me. I didn't know it was ILLEGAL either. It's so interesting to find these laws out. It's not worth jail time to me. I keep to myself in public and I agree with you too, others should as well.

Seeing TikTok evolve into this behemoth from afar makes me so relieved of having been a teen during a time, when TikTok did not exist. I can perfectly see my younger self up on that app, acting like a clown. The most concerning trend that goes beyond TikTok for me is definitely the growing apathy towards each other. It’s not only invading other people’s privacy for content but when everyone and their aunt is trauma dumping, and many overdramatize it, follow the current trend of being ‘troubled’ and fake it very convincingly for attention, validation and money, then it becomes harder to recognize a genuine cry for help. I even caught myself being completely unbothered by yet another crying face and yet another terrible thing that supposedly happened, I just scroll to the next video and would forget all about the content of the previous video because I legit do not care. Most of us won’t admit how little we care because we don’t want to be judged for it, but deep down we all know the truth. Considering how there’s desperate people out there who truly need support and help, this indifference towards each other is a really scary development.

I left all social apps except youtube for the very reason that nothing is private anymore. I would prefer to be a ghost than have everyone somehow know something about me without having to talk to me like a normal person. “If you don’t have my phone number or know my address than you truly don’t know me. “ really comes into play and people should think of that before posting intimate things on the internet. Do you really want someone knowing something so private? Also the loneliness epidemic is because we can just find out whatever we want about a person without having to sit to get to know them because of this oversharing and this is why people struggle with meaningful connections. Lastly what bothers me is the amount of people posting home videos of their children’s funniest or most memorable milestones in life. Those should be private. You never know if they become famous one day and everyone can look back to something when they were a child and didn’t have the ability to consent to.
