For a 21 year old Carter Hart is insane to watch. His composure, movements & ability to read the play is one of a 8 year vet. He is definitely one of the next great goalies.

Loved this! I was actually going to suggest that you do a mini series where you feature different nhl goalies and do a breakdown about what’s to love about their game, what one of their weak points is, what can be learned from them etc. As a goalie fan (I tend to have loyalt to goalies over loyalty to teams, I’m weird like that 💁🏼♀️) I love the warmup videos you have of some of the greats I think that’s a really insightful way to study them. Keep up the great content Trav!

I have 4 favorite goalies to watch and they've stayed relatively the same for the past few years. 1.)Bobvrosky, 2.)Hellebuyck, 3.)Smith, and 4.)Lehner. Bob for is tracking and athleticism, Connor for his ability to read forming plays and executing proper saves, Smith for his puck playing abilities, and Lehner for his positioning and play style (forcing shooters to do what he wants them to do). Watching them, learning small things, and adding them to my game has made me such a better goaltender than if I was looking at the flashy big "fish out of water" playstyle goaltenders like Quick and Fleury.

Nice video Trav. I love Bobrovsky. I feel him and Matt Murray share a pretty similar style. Quick has to be my favourite to watch though. Keep up the good work!

I really appreciate this video. Highlight reel saves are great, but you really hit the nail on the head when you said you don't always hear about goalies who were solid in their positioning and kept blocking the puck consistently to the corners.
@PivotalG4 жыл бұрын
Hey Trav, the best goalies are typically the ones who have a small highlight reel. Everyone loves to watch those quick reactionary saves like Price does. That's where Price beats other goalies is, he's quick with his reflexes. But like Binnington, Bobrovsky, Quick. Their depth and angle is usually so spot on that they're able to control that rebound and don't need to make those reactionary saves as often. A goalies job isn't to save or stop the puck. It's to control it. You do that by having proper crease depth and angles. Box Control is what makes a goalie great but won't make you a highlight reel goalie.

One old tip/anecdote I always follow in order to try and seal up holes while moving; look to keep your glove and blocker both on the same z-plane (height) as eachother & on the same xy-plane as your desired final position (angled towards the puck essentially). When taken literally together it forces your hands to stay in nearly the same position relative to your body through the whole motion and forces you to use your core more during movements.

Nice ice time! I thought you looked solid but still overextend for "the big save" when you could use momentum/movement to help you make saves easier, plus this might help keep your body in better shape if your not extending yourself as much.. just a thought P.s. I'm a high level goalie in disguise so don't disregard this comment, you might be able to use it and change your game!
@trav4oilers4 жыл бұрын
show yourself hahah but yes you are right
@xmarine734 жыл бұрын
@@trav4oilers ⬅️ what he said... Show yourself! I read the overextending as this: 1. You've been on several teams recently and both the defenseman and you aren't familiar with how the other prefers to play (do you like shots blocked or a clean shot... Even if they know, what's their instinct, etc). So they make things harder on you at times. Then in an attempt to save the game you try "to do it all" because they just aren't helping. 2. Once you get a bit behind, you have low/no confidence in them and vice versa. After a few games like this, win or lose, the pressure is on and you need saves not to win games but to prove yourself in order to restore everyone's confidence (self-confidence, confidence in the defense, confidence in the goalie, even confidence in the defensive system). Maybe I'm reading into it but I feel like the game, particularly the goalie position, is very psychological and therefore an emotional rollercoaster. Once you're on that rollercoaster, it's tough to jump off and calm everything down mid-game or even mid-practice. It always, ALWAYS, irritates me when a guy is standing in the crease, or screening the goalie, trying to be the goalie when the goalie is still in the play. Go play D and pressure the puck vs being in the way while letting them take shots. I've seen this happen to you Trav in a ton of your videos. Combat the bad habits that could arise! Keep on keeping on, broheimian!

that pc salsa is legitttt but it has A LOT of salt. I was thinking about the mental aspects of goal tending and what everyday activities outside the rink would help with focus, attention span, eye movement, retaining information, composure...Do you think reading books helps goalies with that stuff? How about doing those "spot the difference games" or "where's waldo" puzzle games. Would those help goalies read the game better, focus on the puck etc?

The only critique is when you go into your split when you push off you leave youre toe up on your leg you push off of. I get its desperation when i see it but cant you turn your leg so your not heel picking the ice and instead push into butterfly then extending your leg into the split then leaning your body towards where the puck is going. Like on the breakaway i feel that would of been more useful then a desperation split
