The Poniente beach side and the town behind is lovely, full of Spanish people and culture - I've travelled to many different Spanish cities and Benidorm is fine - something for everyone really - even snobs! 😁

Hi, Tim! I’m from Spain just outside of Benidorm, I hope you enjoyed your stay. Just a heads up, blue parking means you have to pay from 8am to 21:30 (Summer hours). After 21:30 it’s free and Sundays are free all day. It changes in the winter but I can’t remember. Always enjoy watching your videos!

Unfortunately stressed and rude is happening in all four corners of the world. I’m in the US born and raised in NYC and seems everyone is in a mad rush and God help you if you slow them up. I walk with a cane and I’m slow and that’s not good 😱 people automatically get annoyed, it’s pretty sad. I worry for our future generations. Sorry didn’t mean to get so heavy. I thought maybe it was just happening in America but no it’s not just us. Anyway here’s to a kinder future 😊♥️🌎. Thanks I do enjoy watching your travel videos.

Tim, NEVER EVER EVER take the additional insurance at the desk. If you had this trip planned...a few seconds online back at home and an independent insurance company would giver you the same but probably better cover for around £15 to £20. You got stung there...sorry.

Although, perhaps, a little expensive I would agree with your thoughts on the car insurance. (Bias alert! I spent all but a few months of my entire working life in - motor insurance!)

I was very surprised to see the Zante shipwreck photo on the wall of a Benidorm hotel - recognised it straight away especially as I've been right next to it on that beach. You can only get to it by boat, though you can visit the overlook above which we did on an off-road safari tour. I loved Zante, though it was a trip booked 3 weeks prior to our departure following the collapse of our long-time planned trip to Spain in the madness of 2020. There's so many wonderful things to do on the island, and Zante Town itself is well worth an explore.

@@WalkWithMeTim I just thought - isn't the name of the accommodation Hotel Helios? Helios is a Greek word meaning Sun, and is the god of the Sun in ancient Greece. Which may be why the hotel has some Greek theming like the Zante shipwreck picture. Though they haven't gone all in and had the traditional Greek tiling

We stayed at Hotel Helios last year Tim the rooms were very pleasant and a decent nights sleep, the breakfast next morning was your normal standard buffet style, with lots and lots of selection. Really enjoy watching all of your interesting videos, including with your wife and baby son.

Tip when hiring a car. Instead of paying for enhanced insurance protection with the car hire company, buy a third party policy for a lot cheaper. You can buy an annual cover or cover for one trip. If you ever had an incident you would have to pay the excess to the car hire company but put a claim in on your policy to recoup the money afterwards.

I recommend going to the Benidorm festival in November. There is the big British fancy dress on the Thursday and there around 20k of brits all dressed up. Its always in the news. Its worth visiting nothing like it anywhere. 16th November it happens this year. I am staying in the RH Carfali which is always nice as you know

I'd be interested to know if the Zakynthos shipwreck tours are any better these days. I went on one around 24 years ago and wasn't that impressed. The boat left really early in the morning and my sister and I had been up till the silly hours of the morning drinking in our all inclusive hotel. Needless to say, we felt quite sick on the ship which was very rocky as it didn't go out to see at all and just hugged the edge of the island to the cove. the tour came with lunch which consisted of sweaty ham and cheese rolls. We arrived at the cove and there were loads of other ships there. At this point you could get out and have a swim (very carefully as there were lots of boats docked here) but because there are so many other boats that all have set schedules, you can't stay for long. I seem to remember it being around half an hour to an hour. Then it was time to go. The beaches at Zakynthos are beautiful though. Golden sands and the sea is so warm and calm.

You can save a lot of money by buying an annual hire car excess insurance to save being ripped off by the hire car companies. I have protection with my credit card too.

They have high end shops in airports as its duty free, so prices are a bit lower. Also, people going on holiday have more behaviour intent to purchase treats for themselves :) I tend to buy my fragrances ay airports.

There is a train from Alicante near the airport goes to Benidorm takes 16 minutes and costs 2 euros.

Hiya Tim, Luton airport looks ok never been there ,even when I lived in north London, we use to fly from Gatwick.some people are rude at times .your hotel looks good and your room .I would have gone in the pool to cool down very hot there,have a great time and looking forward to seeing more vlogs.

The car rental aspects always good to cover in nice detail as practicalities might be confusing to people who dont normally rent cars on holidays. I always take the insurance too, prepay for it and by the time holiday rolls around you have forgotten the added cost and can drive without worrying of rental company scamming you or accidental scratches costing hundreds.

Usually end up adding 50-75% (sometimes even more) to cost of car in insurance but then i tend to stress about little things so makes sense to just buy it and enjoy stress free holiday 😄 Anyways, keep up the good reporting and I think it’s well worth showing the car related tips and impressions (local driving, parking, etc)

Regarding the car insurance, you can buy "car excess insurance" cover in the UK for around £4 per day. Google will give you many options for single trip or annual policies.

@@barrypollard5933 yeah fair enough, but then you have the faff of still paying all damages out of pocket and claiming them back from the company, that may or may not screw you over. Also it wouldn’t cover any processing fees and so on that the rental is going to smack on top. There are plenty ways to save money buy they have drawbacks, going direct to rental company is definitely the most expensive but it’s also the easiest.

Sorry im late with a comment Tim, was sat outside most of the day & had a late tea. I wanted to save this til later so i could watch on the big screen. The mini train taking you from part of Luton Airport seems so novel to me, & it seemed quite a long journey from one part to the other. I guess its getting so busy in Airports in the summer Months! This time last year i hadn't jouned your channel so I've never seen how packed Airports get in the summertime. Love your soundtracks on all your travel all vlogs i have to say! Always chilled vibes. Hotel looks posh! And the pool looks nice with the Palm Trees 🌴 all around. The balcony was nice but those High Rise Buildings outside look like they've seen better days. Bathroom so clean, small but compact i like the fact the Hairdryer is in the Bathroom instead of the Bedroom for convenience. Room looks lovely & clean & a nice neutral decor. And Wow you said there was a Nightclub in the Hotel aswell! I've never heard of that! No need for taxi after clubbing to find you back to your room!!

I buy an annual car hire excess policy which is a lot cheaper than buying the hire company insurance & have also used a Amex Platinum in the past which has insurance against any hire car damage which I have used & was paid out very quickly.

I am going to Benidorm for 7 nights on July 23,staying at The Riviera. It will be my 9th visit and 8th different hotel. I only went to the Melia twice because it was covid times and I wanted somewhere with its own indoor pool as it was Christmas time both times I went and too cold for the outside pool. I have been looking at The Helios for Christmas 2023 as it has a heated outdoor pool.

Hey! On some mastercard gold or above, car insurance on a hire car is included on the card if you pay with that card. Try look it up, what the terms are at your bank on the difference cards. Nice vlog like always.

Won’t lie, I really want to take the DART partly because it’s so close to the runway and I’m a huge aviation nerd, but it’d take me longer to get to airport parkway and catch the DART than it would to walk to the [town centre] station bus interchange from my place and ride the bus to the airport 😂 (also the bus is free for me most of the time with my bus pass). Maybe one day I’ll do it for the sheer novelty. Don’t need to go to Spain at the moment though, weather in Luton is very Mediterranean currently! 🥵

Just as an FYI. I use Lara cars for Spanish car hire from Alicante Brilliant. Everything is covered under one price. Just normal tyre damage or fines need paying They meet you and you pay for the car on pick up and no extras to cover with dings or deposit needed. Drop off is leave the key in car in a designated area and travel home.

For insurance if you travel regularly, we have an annual policy for car insurance excesses for £125 a year and it covers all rentals and drivers on the policies when hiring in any country

The DART shuttle is a game changer regarding Luton Airport despite the cost. It means you can park your car cheaply at a nearby railway station and get the train and shuttle to the airport and back in relative comfort compared to the old bus system for less than long term parking on short trips. Also whatever redesigns they have done to the airport in the last few years or so has made it more pleasurable to get around, I'd pick it over Stansted or Gatwick anytime. High end shops in airports due to tax deductible reasons making (in theory) prices slightly cheaper.
