My handmade drum of cedar and deerskin makes many sounds, depending on how you hold her and where you strike with the beater; she has an amazing voice for such a small instrument, only 12". Weather makes a difference too...when it is warm and dry her voice is high and sometimes almost tinny...so sometimes I need to dampen the back a little. A bit more humidity and she's mellow. Too MUCH humidity and she's flat and loose and needs to be warmed up...a heating pad, blow dryer or fire will bring back her voice, but not too MUCH heat or she'll be ruined. Only a little at a time.
I used a 12" kit from Cedar Mountain Drums for this first one...wonderful people to work with, very helpful and knowledgable. And fooey, I thought I had edited out the glitch at the end...too late now!
