It’s hard to describe but I feel the most alive when I reach the summit of a mountain. I’ts such a high. Oh the memories. I was born in the Azores on the island Terceira. My uncle still lives there today. I came to the United States when I was eleven. People don’t realize just how beautiful it is over there. Great video Alice.

Great video. We loved Pico when we were there last summer. The hiking to the top of Pico was the highlight of the trip. We climbed all the way to the highest top (you have to do some easy rock climbing for that) with our kids. We went during the day though. Great adventure. We made a video about it if snyone is interested. Cheers

Nicely done Alice! I buried my mother yesterday in the State of Virginia. She was born and raised in Criacao Velha. Watching your video brought back many memories of her description of the Island. Plan to visit the Island myself in the future. Thanks for posting!!

Alice, you are amazing! You are so brave for hiking through the night up the Pico by yourself. But I guess it says a lot about the safety of those islands and there are no wild animals so, I guess it is ok to do that. You've inspired me to do something similar too. Hiking through the night to see the sunrise is exactly what i need to feed my soul with. I'm getting ready for my trip to azures pretty soon and watching your videos helps a lot. Thanx!

I really enjoyed this one. Great narration, spectacular views, and lots of information. But the best part is sensing your intense emotions as you explore this wonder for yourself. I could almost feel your heart beating with anticipation and joy as you climbed to the summit and watched the sunrise. Most likely I'll never get to see many of these sights firsthand, so thank you for taking me there virtually. Great job!

My Home island - Pico, Monument Island. These islands are not off Portugal, they are far off of Portugal over 1000 miles away from Lisboa, or 1/3 of the way to Boston. Visit and stay at my cousin Lurdes & Fernando's place above the UNESCO vineyards near Madalena, Pico. They have a restaurant and a covered retractable roof salt water swimming pool, etc. www.booking.com/hotel/pt/al-novavista-alojamento.html

You eluded to it with your comments of the plates merging. Fun fact: The two furthest west Azores Islands, Flores and Corvo, are in North America. The Azores were my first excursion to Europe in 2015 and just so gorgeous. I want to go back soon. With a huge tailwind, it was 4 hours flat from Boston. Most speak English and the people are so welcoming and hospitable. Very inexpensive, too! The perfect place to vacation...

This is awesome! My 4th great-grandfather was born and raised on Pico Island in 1823. He left around 1842 on a whaling vessel and toured the globe several times. He landed in Lahaina, Maui circa. 1850. He would remain in the Hawaiian Kingdom and swear allegiance to King Lunalilo and the Hawaiian Constitution in 1873. I guess I need to add Pico Island to my bucket list.

You are incredibly awesome Alice! Surely an adventurer yourself :). I’ve gotten to know the Azores much better now. Mount Pico, the tallest mountain in Portugal, some 2,321 meters you say, also that it is the tallest mountain in the world if measured from the sea floor - really? BTW, you did mention Azores was on the convergence of 3 tectonic plates. So, I did not hear wrong :). But, if 3 tectonic plates, what are the plates, any idea? Another awesome documentation :).

Mount Pico is not the tallest mountain in the world from seafloor to it's peak. Mauna kea on the Big Island of Hawaii is if you're measuring it's base to peak. Both are made out of volcanic rocks and are very similar in landscape so, I can understand the confusion. Just a fyi. :-)
