On on our last full day of the trip, we finally made our way out to the natural wonder of the south of France - les Calanques. Pretty much spanning the coastline between Cassis and Marseille, this park boasts gorgeous white limestone cliffs that rise dramatically from the blue water and greenery below. This little video doesn't do justice to the absolute beauty of this hike and I would highly recommend exploring the trails yourself if you have the chance. We stayed the main trail that took us to Calanque de Port Pin and then up to the top of Calanque d'En Veau. To get down to the beach portion of the Calanque, we had to take a very steep and very unstable path down but the view from the bottom of the Calanques is just as impressive - a feeling of stepping into a world completely different from our own. This park is quite accessible and we encountered people of a variety of age groups throughout the day, but overall the main path is not too difficult - just be careful because some points can become quite steep/slippery. We deviated off the main path to explore some of the more complex trails, and I discovered my passion for scrambling (a concept I knew I loved already - climbing over rocks using my hands - but didn't know had a term) and was able to use it out in the "wild" which simultaneously brought me out of my comfort zone yet made me feel so connected to my body in way I rarely do. So overall, absolutely amazing experience. We spent about 7 hours hiking, swimming, climbing, relaxing in the park before heading back into to town to grab our last dinner before curfew :)

Wow 🤩 super! Is it dangerous to walk? My friend and I will go there next week, probably, if we reach the agreement. My friend thinks that the summer is better.

Ooh that would be so cool! Personally I would go in the spring/summer bu that’s mostly because I don’t handle the cold well 😅 I’m sure it would still be gorgeous in winter as well. It’s not dangerous, there’s a descent that gets slippery down to Calanque d’En-Vau, but if you just take your time and watch your footing you’ll be fine. When I went there were people of all ages along the paths, and there are many beautiful spots so everyone just goes at their own pace and enjoys the views :)

@@TatianaRines Thank you Tatiana for your valuable suggestions! I’m in Marseille now. Wow, it’s so windy and chilly, I will do Calanque another time. Marseille has a lot of attractions to offer; so, I will wander around the church/ fortress/ port / museum... I like Marseille, a very enjoyable sea city😍

Hello, I would like to know if the access road is very difficult (I would like to be able to go with a baby carrier backpack). I have a 1 and a half year old girl and I am worried about the way to get to see those views

Beatiful, How can we reach this place ?

It really is incredible! You can reach Cassis by local train (TER or SNCF) that takes you there from Marseille in about 20 mins. The start of the hiking trail is about a 10 minute walk from the center of the city and goes west into the calanques :)
