+Suzala Suzala You won't be able to fit the Escoda #10 into the box that I showed in the video. The largest Escoda travel brush you can fit is size 8. If you're working on A5 size sketchbooks, I recommend a size #6 brush. I'll be putting up a video soon (already recorded) on the different brush sizes to choose.

Hi teoh! I was searching for travel brushes online because, I woukd bring it to school with me and because it's collapsable I could put it in my pocket or pen case without fear of damage. Unfortunately the only ones I could find online are raphael travel brushes in 8404 size 4(the only one I could find that would sjip to my country that is) .Is it good?

that hole is actually there to release the pressure as you insert the cap onto the brush. Without it, the brush would pop out.

Hello I know this is an old video and you have moved on to other things, but if you can I would really appreciate your advice. I am considering getting either an Escoda Reserva or a Da Vinci Maestro both in their smallest travel brush versions (so size 2 for Escoda and size 1 for Da Vinci). I am looking for something that will keep its point well and be great for producing thin hairlines and fine detail, specifically something that would allow for hatching with the brush. In your opinion, specifically in terms of the performance of the bristles, what would be best for getting sharp, highly detailed/fine brushstrokes?
@teohyc
@teohyc Жыл бұрын
Escoda and Da Vinci are both good brands. I prefer Da Vinci collapsible brushes because I prefer the screw on brush body. Metal push-on bodies can be loose if you get a badly manufactured one. As for hair quality, I have good experience with both companies' brushes over the years.

The Reserva No 2 directly purchased from Speedball (Escoda’s authorized US reseller). Um, has issues keeping a point. Hit n miss with the no 2. My Reserva no 4, awesome. No clue about DaVinci in that size but I don’t have any problems with the larger sizes I own. I think a size 2 in Sable may be quite hard to get right for whatever reason. It’s odd. But ya never know til you try. 😊

+Teoh Yi Chie Thank you for your great videos. On the topic of cleaning afterwards, I've seen two different types of stands that hold the brushes vertically or at a slant- with the points downward to 'drain' (not that there is water in them) or 'aerate' so that gravity helps keep the remaining moisture out of the ferule. What are your thoughts on this.
@teohyc
@teohyc 8 жыл бұрын
+kula89511 I think there is no difference between having the brush tip up or down when you are storing them. Gravity will not be strong enough to pull all the water out. The hair will still dry through normal evaporation, so there really is not much difference either way.

Im stuck between escoda optimo and reserva. If im going to get reserva, will it be worth its price for an art student like me, or will optimo be more suggested for me? Also, will i be able to feel the difference between the two?
@teohyc
@teohyc 7 жыл бұрын
Optimo is slightly software and nicer to use. It holds more water too, relatively speaking. My recommendation is to get small Optimo brushes (size 6 or small) and large Reserva brushes (cheaper). If you are on budget, just get the Reserva brush.

@rdhdhn 7 жыл бұрын

Interesting. I was thinking of just getting 1 brush (size 6) to start and hope it will suffice for fine lines and washes as I learn. The Reserva is very slightly cheaper than the Optimo in the UK, though from different suppliers.

Hi Teoh, thank you for the informative video - I have a small collection of travel brushes and was curious about a couple you showed (not that I need any more!). Just a minor pronunciation note, don't say the "t" in bristle - it's more like brissle. I have a set of Silver Brush Black Velvet travel brushes that I like a lot but the quality is not consistent from brush to brush (hopefully they have gotten better since I bought them though). My newest obsession is a hybrid waterbrush I made for travel - it's not as compact but it is very convenient; it combines a sable hair brush tip with a waterbrush body (if you are interested, I just posted about it).
