Very well done, I always enjoy your videos. I usually have my wife watch them in the hopes she'll get a little excited about cruising the Caribbean when we retire, but I don't think it's working...she's afraid of the water :( Anyway I can travel along with you through your videos, thank you.
@WhiteSpotPirates9 жыл бұрын
Hi +George Miller, I can totally feel with your wife. I am afraid of a thousand things out there...A little advice: you can do tons of day sailing trips in the Caribbean. That is (I find) WAY less scary than doing overnights or big passages (which I have not done yet wither cause they scare me ;)). If you take her out for an hour, three hours...grooving in, getting comfortable...I am sure she will loose her fear step by step. It is a lot about gaining trust in your boat and seeing that you get back to your anchorage safe and sound. And dolphins always help, too, for sure ;) So order some for your first trip ;) Good luck, Nike

+WhiteSpotPirates I got my wife to go sailing a while ago. She was nervous at first and sat in one spot for the whole three hours. When we got back to the dock she said, "Man we gotta get one of these!" I'm trying to convince her that we should get one to live on while sailing the Caribbean. But she says a boat is too confining. I'll keep trying though!
@georgemiller12519 жыл бұрын
Thanks Nike. Good luck Rick, you should do videos as well about getting your other half to get comfortable and going along. I think my first step is going to be to just get her to sit on a boat tied to the pier until she's comfortable. The problem with that is currently I don't own a boat and don't know anybody that does. I guess I'm going to have to buy one in the hopes she'll become comfortable enough that we'll be able to cast off the lines and make use of it. I'm still planning on about 5 years in the Caribbean once we retire.
@WhiteSpotPirates9 жыл бұрын
Maybe try to find someone over the internet to let her sit on their boat before you buy one ;) Might be less pressure for her. Do you live somewhere close to a yacht club? Maybe find someone that is willing to let her on board and maybe you can even go out for a little day sail with someone...If it was me, I would feel too much pressure that I would HAVE to adapt if the boat was already baught...Just an idea. I wish you all the best!

I'd like to see past episodes edited into 20-23 min "shows" so you can try to sell them to the Travel Channel or Discovery. Young girls need to see a show like that! Too many girls are afraid to strike out on their own, or tackle a mechanical or wood working job. You are an inspiration to them. You show them that if they let go of those fears, the whole world opens up for them! Keep up the good work, and keep making the videos!
@WhiteSpotPirates9 жыл бұрын
Hi +John Lampe, I am happy you like the "show" and think it could be Travel or Discovery Channel material :). We are actually working on a 60-90 minute documentary...and of course it would be super awesome to place that somewhere...Had to laugh a bit, when you said if you lose your fears the whole world opens up for you...and thinking that for me, mostly the world of refit had opened up ;). No, just kidding, especially lately I have been blesses with soooo many beautiful moments of exploring and getting to know new countries and cultures, and it totally makes you forget all the sweat and fear it needed to get there. Ahoy and thanks for watching, Nike
@Sandbag13009 жыл бұрын
+WhiteSpotPirates I agree with John. Great material for a 30 minute show. Over that time may get a bit tedious. Lots of great raw footage that can be weaved together in common narrative threads. Like finding Karl. Retrofitting Karl with decisions that needed to be made and how you made them. Taking the first sail and the challenges. Exploring new places. Traveling solo, Etc. Once you have 6 shows it may be a great time to make the cable network TV pitch. If you go this route, take a look at the video pods that achieved the largest audiences the fastest and analyze why that happened, then leverage the learning for future filming. In general audiences like ground covered quickly, relationships, characters, eye candy, challenges, and train wrecks. Good luck.

Hi Nike, Yes I did watch them all last night. The 2 seasons so far, plus the 3 bonus videos :). I couldnt stop. Your editing is very good and the story in every video is excellent. I could feel your pain with every set back and also your excitement when you finally started sailing. I can only imagine the feeling of pride you had when the new sails went up for the first time. :). My new found interest in sailing has had me watching a lot of videos lately and yours are definitely in the top 3 on you tube. You have a reality show and are living a dream that many have. Your going to do great on you tube!!!.. I know when you get to Cuba you will love it. The people are vibrant and the island has a different vibe from anyplace else I have ever been. Probably some of the most unspolied diving with very rare coral in the entire caribbean as well. The architecture in Old Havana is amazing and if you can make it out to Pinar Del Rio you will not be disappointed. :). I look forward to your hourneys. Enjoy. Fair winds :).

Love the video, but sorry to see the grill go. I have been waiting to see some fish being cooked, O well. The items you disposed of did you trade with the locals, or sell? It seems they would have a use of make a use for some of it. As you have found many people are resourceful with what others discard. May you continue to have just enough wind in your sails to make it adventurous and seas calm enough to bring a smile upon your face.
@WhiteSpotPirates9 жыл бұрын
Hi +Jethro B No worries, the grill did not go :) I just moved it aside. And actually in the last episode you did see some fish being grilled on that grill...well just on the grill of the grill over a real fire ;). I sold an old life raft that I had kept...and I got rid of some small stuff that I just put next to the bin. I tried to sell the dinghi, did not work...and in the end I put it back on board and then gave it away to someone in San Andres who then gave me a diving torch and diving knife in return (it was a guy from the Beuchat shop there), so that worked out nicely :). Last time I got rid of a lot of stuff was after the purchase in Shelter Bay. And I gave lots of stuff to the locals there and sometimes they gave me an avocado or a good advice for my refit projects. I hardly ever throw anything away, like into the bin...cause most of the time, as you said, there are people who can find a use for what you think you don't need anymore. Thank you for your wishes, that would be some nice sailing conditions if they come true :) Ahoy, Nike

Thanks Nike, nice seeing the city, seems great to have the bike. Is it hard to find a place to anchor in a city like that? Do you worry about the boat when it is unattended? How about a place leave the dingy? Seems like so much more to worry about in the city. I looked at noon site and it does not seem to have too much about where to anchor unless I am missing it. My wife always makes fun of me that I can't find anything
@WhiteSpotPirates9 жыл бұрын
Hi +Ralph Baldino. Quite some questions there, hm? ;) 1) it's super great to have a bike in cities, yes!!! 2) Well, the ancorage is quite full, that makes it hard to find your spot (with good holding and enough space) but finding the ancorage itself is straight forward ;). It is just in front of Club Nautico, quite a big area. 3) yes, I worry :). Mostly I worry about dragging or other people dragging into Karl. Theft...well, I would say Karl is probably not Nr. 1 target for theft...he looks a bit scrappy (sorry Karl, you know I love you the way you are!!!) 4) My dinghi is a rowing dinghi, so also here I am not too worried about theft. You can leave your dinghi at the dock of Club Nautico (you have to pay for that, but it is super safe) or, like me, use a small dock on the right of Club Nautico, which is for free. Cities defenitely worry me more than small little deserted islands, yes. And what I don't like about them is that usually you cannot swim...and the sea is my shower...so that sucks a bit...But for a change it is surely nice to be in a city from time to time... Ahoy, Nike

+WhiteSpotPirates Thank you Nike, I know I ask a lot of questions and thank you for taking time for me. Trying to plan on some cruising in about 2 or 3 years so there are so many things I need to learn. You have been a big help and an inspiration. Thank you again!

I am engaged in production of furniture, but for a long time didn't do it without electricity. And when you see it performed by the woman, it causes admiration. And, after all, question: why it is impossible to buy the electric tool of 12 volts? By the boat life and so isn't simple, why still to complicate?
@WhiteSpotPirates9 жыл бұрын
Hey +DenonClipper, you mean why I don't use electrical tools? I do...my drill e.g. is an electrical one (although I also have a manual one in case everything is dead batterywise) and I also have electrical tools like jigsaw, sander, dremel and grinder etc...but I would have to use a generator (not for the dremel, but for the others)...and those Japanese saws are actually pretty good and pretty fast...:) I just like it that way, I guess... Ahoy, Nike

Maybe two years in by now? Seems like you have had quite the restoration project making Karl your own. Who was your influence into being such a DIY'er?
@WhiteSpotPirates3 жыл бұрын
My dad likes taking things apart and he used to have a little room in our house with tools where he would putter around on weekends. Sometimes we would build some stuff together when I was a kid. That was always very special for me. But it was also just the circumstances of Karl being a bit run down and me not having much money so I just had to learn it all to fix things as cheaply as possible. It’s been a bit too much in the beginning but it’s also been a great experience and I am thankful for the learning curve that I went through (and still am going through)
