FYI - the crew of SV Delos changed their own rigging a while back. One strand at a time. They saved alot. I bet you can do it too. You seem to be able to do anything you set your mind to. I am often impressed and always admire your sense of adventure and resourcefulness. Be safe!

It is so great to see you aboard Karl again. It sounds like you decided to do the rigging yourself, frankly no surprise, you have overcome so many challenges successfully that I call you Super woman :) thank you for sharing.

Loved that little mangroves exploration segment towards the end and very keen to watch you change the rigging, if you end up doing it yourself. You had better luck in Guatemala City than my mate and I when we drove down from San Diego on a six month surfing trip in 1992. We couldn't find our way anywhere, drove around in circles for about an hour, gave up and returned to the Pan American, where at least we knew which way was south.

You can do your own rigging with Norsman fittings, I did my own.
@penneysautomotiverepairsin57689 жыл бұрын
Nike you can save a little money but you will have to aloft to get the rigging down. But first you will have to find a supplier that can get you good stainless wire the right diameter and fittings to swage it if you don't use a mechanical end. also check the tangs at the mast very very carefully. Look for cracks and metal fatigue. If you doubt a tang replace it. And do not forget to run a support for the rigging wire you take down. You will have to do it one wire at a time as well. You got this girl.:-)

Hi, You should really consider using HMPE rigging, also known as Dyneema. It is quite cheap as easily spliced. A factory (southern ropes) here in Cape Town makes and sell these for around 1.6euro per metre for 8mm line. Also much stronger than stainless. Southern Ropes also export to nearly anywhere in the world as far as I know. I hope this helps.

you should try for St Pete , Florida there a lot of sailors there that i am sure would help u fix up your boat there a lot reasons to go there easy to get parts , lots of friendly people that would help u and show how to fix things i do not live there ( i live in Wien now) any more but built sail boats there for 10 years . You would not be the first person living the Sailors Dream there, that needed little help .

Karl's crew- I find the isolation of my sailboat is a seduction. Usually a bitter sweet pull. I'm guessing it's a white spot of mine. Your videos remind me of that but you never talk about what the stars do to you when you're there with Karl. Enjoying you travels very much while spending every penny getting Unbridled ready for spring. Hope you are well
@raincoast23969 жыл бұрын
Do you experience much culture shock Niki, going from Germany to Guatemala City, then into a mangrove, in such short space of time? To say nothing of European living, to Guatemalan hostel, to life back on Karl is the same space of time!

Hi love your video's and admire you for your adventurous spirit. The ups and downs that you go through keep us all interested. I must admit to a little confusion though. In your introductory header it says " a solo sailing adventure" but you seem to have a male companion with you most times. So has the trip changed to one with company. ? No need to answer if you do not wish but I am sure many people are asking the same question. If I missed the answer some where along the way I am sorry. keep the video's coming. good luck and regards from the UK.
