I love the way you are open to trying new things. Most people I know would never travel alone, sleep in a pod, eat that crazy breakfast item, or go camping with a stranger. But you live on the edge and seem to really know how to enjoy life. I'm sure that is why you seem to laugh and smile with such ease.

New Zealand what they don't tell you, as a local of south island. 1. sand flies will bite if your unlucky, if not they still fly into everything is such a pain. keep food and drink covered at all times. 2, try to buy most stuff from bigger stores as towns based on visitors have a small mark up as they are so isolated, if you find the coffee getting out of hand you might want to buy a press and get some blended coffee to make and store in the thermos, 6 to 9 dollars a time is kinda painful after a day. 3. weather will chance in a min, you see dark clouds in the distance they will be on you fast. weather here being a long thin island is like a hit of miss if it a windy day or a clam one, the "all four season in one day" line is no joke. 4. watch out for the camping police "people" get touchie if you try to camp in non camp sites. Think freedom camping app is still good, list all the free, paid & self contained sites everywhere 5.all the walks by doc are normally free, if there a hut on a over night walk it may have a small fee like $20pp per night. but they full up fast, day walks should have no charge if self-guided. all marked out and kept in good condition. just remember the all 4 season in one day and you'll be fine 6. plans never work out so just go with it and a 1hr drive wont be 1hr you'll want to stop. 7. Queenstown is amazing. 8. have fun and where nice people most of the time so we might just strike up convo and ask stupid questions, like y did you want to come to NZ? it our ego boost to find out why people want to travel here. oh and if you litter expect and extra earful from us it kinda a double standard sorry.

Will you do a video on freedom camping in New Zealand? Some people think you can camp anywhere but of course that is not true. You can only camp for free in certain spots. What app do you use to find your free camp spots?
@WheresPoppy5 жыл бұрын
I'm just making videos as I experienced New Zealand. There's was barely any internet or cell-reception so honestly I didn't always know what was happening. But I do believe I talk about some of the campsites, and how you go about paying for them.

Wow! I never knew we had sleeping pods at Auckland airport! Probably because I live here nowadays so I just head home. But, Poppy, as a Patreon person, I’m surprised you didn’t share the costs of your pod for travellers visiting to NZ.

I do have to vouch for her...if you’re going to be meeting strangers anywhere, it probably safest in NZ. We rented a car when we were in NZ for three months and met soooo many people who were backpacking by just randomly picking them up on the side of the road. My husband had already been to NZ about 15 times and stayed the whole winter each time...backpacking and making friends with strangers...just all part of the culture. I’m sure bad things can happen too but that’s just our experience.

Poppy, remember how dire things seemed about a year ago? I had commented on your "quitting YT" video when things were looking pretty dire at the moment, suggesting that looking ahead a year or so from then, those dilemmas then will become but a dusty memory fading into the mist. I had suggested then as I will again now, you'll be OK . . . and here we are.

Hi Poppy. I have a question about your drone photography. I just stumbled across your New Zealand videos and I wondered if you travel with a drone or if you rent one at your destination. I know some can be quite heavy to travel with! Also, did you need permission to fly it in New Zealand, and were you prohibited from flying in some areas? We are going back to New Zealand in a few years and I’d love to have some drone footage, but not sure how best to go about that! Thank you!
