My Dometic 110v / propane fridge went 2 months after the warranty. $2400 cdn to replace and install. I replaced it with a $200 110v bar fridge and plug it into my Jackery, plugged into a 12v socket. That way I leave it on and when I arrive at camp the Jackery recharges but if no shore power I have 150watts of solar to recharge battery which in turn tops up the Jackery. No complicated inverter install required. Fridge $200, Jackery $1200. Cheaper than replacement and is cool in 1 hour ready to go.

I I'm think I'm that um you should mention I'm filling the vehicle tank um. Shut the fridge off while reducing, you do not want to take the chance that the pilot light will come on and possibly igniting the gas vapors around the pumps.

Ive seen trailers & vehicles burnt to the ground running Propane in Australia. The trailer catches fire & it's too late to disconnect the vehicle. Now with Lithium batterys, DC - DC Chargers with Solar we do Desert trips for a month or so with this setup.

I have a absorption fridge and don't run it on propane when travelling. I ran a 1ga pair to the fuse block of my truck (60a). And have a Anderson connector mounted under the rear bumper. I used another Anderson connector on the RV and dedicate it to a 40amp DC-DC converter. That goes to a power buss. From there I go to a 1kw inverter. And ran a 110vac line directly to the fridge. It draws about 500w from the inverter and around 25amps@12v from the truck. I'm just paranoid. Next I'm go to add a cutoff if the fridge if it is to far out of level like on a steep grade. You can never be paranoid enough.

I do it (propane) Full timer, so I never shut it off. (Even in NY). If the pilot goes out and still feeds gas, then tried to light...BOOM. #1 reason for camper fires is gas fridge

To run the fridge off the propane do you turn off the propane when getting fuel at the pumps??

Yes, You should turn the fridge off when fueling vehicle if fridge is within unsafe open flame zone. If you are unsure, best to turn off to be safe.

I travel with the propane turned off and rely on a 12 DC compressor fridge

If i pull a multiquip 20Kw generator behind the camper and keep the camper plugged into it while towing, is it a safer option? Last i checked the refrigerator has quite a few safety interlocks. Whats the problem. Your vehicles fuel line could spring a leak at any time and burst into flames. Should we drive them?

Go look at any RV junkyard and you'll see RVs where the fridge caught fire going down the road. Just be safe and turn it off.

The gas valve closes if the pressure changes or if it doesn’t light. Also, the open propane tank is no more dangerous than the 35 gallons of fuel your toting around.
